Customer Reviews

Does the job at value price! I bought the Zeikos ZE-FLK58 58mm Multi-Coated 3 Piece Filter Kit (UV-CPL-FLD) from Amazon.com for my 18-55mm f/3.5 kit lens from my Canon Rebel XTi.I've used filters before with other generic brands and they now need replacing (and I've lost a few along the way). At less than ten bucks, thats how much I paid for just one UV filter four years ago and on this kit you get three for the same price. The build quality of the filters are superior and doesn't feel cheap.Circular Polarizer (CPL): The main reason why I bought this kit. It helps blocks reflections if you don't want it in your photos. You can control the amount how much it can block by simply just turning the filter when mounted on your lens. You'll see an instant effect it makes when you're looking through the viewfinder and turning this filter. I believe it's also used for taking pictures of things through glass windows without getting a picture of yourself.UV Filter: Does what it does. For me it's to protect the front of my lens when I'm not using my CPL.Fluorescent Filter: So far I haven't used this one yet. But these are used indoors to correct the white balance with florescent lights.Filter Case: This is a HUGE bonus to this kit. It's small, well built and not bulky and holds all your filters! All your filters will be ready in one place.I highly recommend this inexpensive kit for those who just bought a camera to protect their lens or needs to replace their filters.Important Tip: In order to find your correct thread size, look into the front of your lens and you'll see a circle with a line through the middle and then a number in millimeters. That's the thread size you would want to order and each lens may vary in sizes. 5I bought this for the CPL and it works wonderfully I've been using this for about 2.5 years, I don't use the FLD filter, but have been using the UV (just to protect a kit lens) and the CPL. The CPL has held up well. Like another reviewer said, I haven't had problems with it in daylight, but it will suffer at night time in low light. When using a CPL, I find these situations to be rare/never.I recommend this if one of the three applies to you1. You are starting out2. You are new to CPLs and want to expand your range3. All your lenses cost less than $500Why? If you have an expensive lens, baby it. There's no sense in buying a $10 lens for a $2000 professional lens, and there's no sense in buying a $50 filter for a $120 lens. The CPL appears to be 3 stops reduction (will reduce light to about 1/8th the level), this means that it doesn't work miracles in brightly lit areas (ie reflections off of museum display cases). The construction is not high quality. It feels light, plastic-y, cheap. However I've used this for 2.5 years and have dropped in on the beaches of Cancun to Hawaii, dropped it on the sidewalk and have opened my bag and saw that it's been laying around unprotected. It's held up well - so it may not be high quality, but its awfully hard to kill. The bottom line: For less than $10, I believe this is incredibly cheap and a wonderful deal. 5Perfect fit for SONY NEX 5N - exactly what I was looking for I was looking for a UV filter to protect the lens on my SONY NEX 5N, and this three-pack was such a good deal that I could not pass it up. All filters fit SONY NEX 5N perfectly, they are easy to put on and take off. The original SONY lens cap fits securely. The UV filter stays on the camera permanently - I notice no degradation in the image and it protects the lens from dirt and scratches.I also used the polarizer filter a fair number of times, and has been satisfied with how it cut reflection and glare. I have a much more expensive polarizer on my full-size SLR camera and this one does as good of a job as the other one. I am very pleased.FLD filter is useful to correct color contrast (white balance) when shooting under fluorescent lights, however when I need to do this correction I use Photoshop features to correct this, so I have not used this filter so far.The filters come in a nice case, which keeps the filters well protected. I am attaching a photo showing the filters and the case.Overall I am very satisfied and the price for the set is very good.Ali Julia review 5Excellent first two sets! Last set was junk! First off I am a photographer and have professional gear for testing.I own two sets of these filters sets as of 2011:The UV filter is made of good glass, creates clear equally sharp images as without a filter, and all three lenses have a metal mount that threads nice and smooth. The FLD (Pink Filter) is made to be used under florescent lighting on a FILM camera to correct the color balance, your digital camera has a florescent white balance setting for correcting color balance. If you do need this FLD for Film it does creates comparably sharp images as without a filter and will help with correcting colors under florescent lighting. The polarized filter is a real gem and shocked me as it performs as well as my high end filters for strength and sharpness creating rich blue sky's in my landscape photos, and as a matter of fact it even sharpened my 400mm telephoto images that I took looking 20mls out on a hazy day!Great filters and an absolute steal for the money!(I have added test shots to the photos above)Way to go Ziekos, great product, and superb price!!Update: I bought a third set 7/25/2012 and they were junk (sent them back) they tested just like the Neewer brand I posted pics of (blurry polarizer ruined my image!) I just moved my star rating from 5 to 4! Warning: Test the sharpness of the polarizer first thing if you plan to use it. 4Overall Pretty Sweeeet! Really pleased with this purchase. Although they could package the filters a bit better as in a box instead of envelope to reduce the chance of damage although the storage case is quite sturdy. Filters themselves seem well built and glass seems to be great quality. All fit my 49mm Sony lense like a glove and I love the added protection. Haven't shot with them yet but can't wait to try them out. The only thing I can fault them for is there is a sticky residue on the side of the lense storage case as if there was a sticker on it at one time but nothing else negative to report. I would recommend to any newbie photographer and look forward to my 40.5mm set showing up tomorrow. 5The quality of much more expensive brand-name filters Stiff frames with close tolerances for glass fitment make this trio of filters feel like the higher grades of the higher priced filters from the familiar brands. Upon delivery, I immediately installed the UV filter in front of the Zeiss lens on my camera. Afraid that the glass filter would distort and blur the excellent original optics, I was actually disappointed that those effects could not be discerned (to justify my writing an annoyed and annoying review so often seen on this website). Oh, well. This review is incomplete--I don't use polarizing filters or whatever the third one in the set is so they're still in their original cellophane envelopes in their own separate compartments in the gently padded filter case provided. Such a good value compared to the brand-name skylight filter I had bought for my first brand-name DSLR years ago. Though I don't like the darkened tones created by polarization, I think I might try out the polarizing filter and maybe even try to figure out if that third, unused filter (whatever it is) might be of any use. 4They are PERFECT in this price range! Sure, these lenses are not glass and they are not multi-coated - but what do you expect for less than $3 / lens filter? I have found they are absolutely perfect for low budget filters. They give me confidence my higher dollar lens won't get damaged while performing their duties. Sure they won't be perfect in every give situation, but then again, what is ?If you are an amateur photographer and needing to start out low budget - these are perfect. They will perform as intended. Just realize when there ARE issues that they weren't even $3/ lens filter. As far as the Zeikos go - the threads screw on easily and they (mostly) perform as stated.Per the packaging (summarized):* UV Filter - absorbs UV rays that make outdoor photos otherwise hazy and indistinct, multipurpose fine weather filter for color and black and white photos, serves as an everyday lens protector.* Circular Polarizer - removes unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water, glass, etc., enables colors to become more saturated for better contrast, increases contrast and saturation in blue skies and white clouds.* Fluorescent Filter - corrects green cast created by using fluorescent lamps with daylight tubes, restoring natural colors to shooting objects. 4Good for the right application I've been doing videography for 5 years but I'm finishing up college, so I'm always looking for the most bang for my buck when buying camera/video equipment. These filters are a decent match for my (inexpensive) 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 lens and they generally do what they are intended to do. I'm careful with them and haven't had any issue with them regarding their quality. I believe they are built quite well (for the price) and the CPL filter spins nicely without being too loose. The CPL filter (Circular Polarizing) is my favorite when shooting anything that has the sky and grass in the shot (like shooting an outdoor event on my steadicam in a park, etc.). It makes the sky a beautiful blue, and the grass look nice and healthy green. It also takes parts of reflections out of almost anything but metals. During one shoot I was shooting through a glass door and showed my client the difference in the reflections as I turned the CPL filter. He was very impressed, and likes the video I did for him since you can actually see the person behind the door in that shot! The UV filter also has its' use. It can stay on your lens and protect it, and I've found that this lens actually helps make indoor shoots look a bit more natural with indoor lighting (admittedly an interesting fix) and this filter can also desaturate your image (could be good or bad depending on the application). This filter adds to lens glare though (at least mine does!), so be careful when shooting towards a light source.I only used the FLD filter to test it for this review and I find it absolutely unnecessary given modern DSLR technology. You can correct your white balance on camera, so you don't need to worry about converting your indoor florescent lights to daylight (mostly used for film). When I upgrade to a new lens (like the Canon 24-105mm f4L, I will buy a nicer CPL and UV filter. The UV to protect my lens and the CPL to handle outdoor/landscape/nasty reflections. I would want nice multi-coated glass filters on a nice lens, but these are fine for the less expensive Canon lenses. If you would like to see this equipment in action to better make a decision, you can find my youtube channel by searching jbhphotovideo in the youtube search box and going to that channel.I hope that helps! 3good quality for a great price. As many of the other reviews have pointed out, you can certainly buy better quality filters than these, but not for under ten dollars. My filter set arrived in a divided leather carrying case and each filter was individually sealed in it's own cellophane bag; new and clean (no smudges, dust or fingerprints). As far as build quality goes the three filters are not consistent:1) The UV filter is "heavy" and "cold" and makes a ting when tapped with a fingernail, giving the impression of an aluminum ring and glass optics. Since I am using this primarily to protect the front of my lens, I am glad for it's sturdier build. As far as it's optical qualities, it seems perfectly clear to me and does not noticeably affect the quality of my digital photos.2) The FLD filter is "light" and "warm" and makes a thud when tapped, giving the impression of a plastic lens in a plastic ring. Given that I don't often shoot with film and that when I do use film, I'm usually outdoors anyway, I will possibly never use this filter and am unconcerned with its quality. (This filter's application is for correcting white balance when shooting with film under fluorescent lights, digital cameras will correct the white balance digitally)3) The CPL filter is difficult to determine, it feels like aluminum and glass, but less so than the UV filter does. It might be heavier plastic, it might be lighter glass. What's important is that it threads easily, spins easily (but not so much that it spins out of where it's been set on it's own), and does an excellent job of cutting glare and deepening the blues of the sky.Overall, if I only got the CPL for my $8, I would still give this set 5 stars for the value. Having a sturdy feeling UV filter to protect my lens is a great plus. 5So far, so good I am so happy with this filter set, but do recognize that at ten bucks, these aren't the best performing filters with the most durable construction. Still, I highly recommend them, and am very happy with their performance...especially considering their cost!To start off with, I am well aware that most serious photographers would probably benefit from getting higher-end filters from bigger brands than Zeikos (i.e. Hoya, B+W), especially if they have premium glass. That being said, I'm also aware many people are on tight budgets- myself included - and it sometimes seems excessive to spend so much on expensive filters, especially if you are new to photography. This is a great solution to someone interested in learning more about what effects various filters can have.CONSTRUCTIONThese filters are cheap, and they feel cheap/weak, too. That was fine for me since I knew for ten bucks that was to be expected. I don't expect these to last forever, its more to get my feet wet with filters than any long term investment. For roughly three dollars a filter, I'm very happy with my purchase, even if these are cheaply made as the other reviewers have noted.AUTOFOCUSINGI noticed from my personal experience when I use the filters with the kit lens that came w/ my Canon Rebel, the 18-55mm IS, auto-focus is fine. With my cheap telephoto, however (the 75-300 non-IS, non-USM), auto-focus was very non-responsive. This was in broad daylight, so I don't think it was an issue of too little light. (If someone knows why this is the case, feel free to let me know!) Either way, aside from the strange focusing w/ my telephoto, I was VERY happy with the performance on my other lenses.QUALITYImage quality was fine (for the most part), and the filters - especially the polarizer - without a doubt made a very noticeable difference. I will try to upload images to illustrate this point. I must note, however, that as of now I have only tried this on relatively cheap lenses...if one were to use this on expensive, high-quality lenses, there might be a more noticeable degredation of quality from these filters. My experiences, however, have been positive.CONCLUSIONSMy assumption is, if you're seriously considering an intro filter set for ten dollars in the first place, you probably will be happy with this set! More likely than not, you're going to benefit from trying these out, and worse comes to worst, you one day upgrade to a better set. O personally think that for the price, this is a very worthwhile purchase. 4
