Customer Reviews

Uhh.... this is the opposite of greatI believe I understand the concept of a social camera, but this product is full of rough edges and compromises. The idea is to get a companion camera for your mobile device which you can use to take great pictures and short video clips of whatever tickles your fancy. This product misses the mark in many, many ways:- the storage is NOT expandable, and it has a measly <4GB of space available. For the price it sells, please buy the next size up for your smartphone and you will get a lot extra storage.- the speaker has only one setting: LOUD. It is LOUD when it announces the camera is on, it is LOUD when it announces it is connected, it is LOUD when it plays the stupid "click" sound when you take a picture, it is LOUD ALL THE TIME. Good luck not disturbing your subjects while taking pictures.- the companion Now Cam app at least on iOS, locks up all the time. Lots of "connection unsuccessful" messages; spinners which never time out, etc- the picture quality is somewhere between "bad" and "very bad"- the video quality is all grainy, blocky and it looks upconverted to 720p from a much lower resolution- the wifi for pic transfer stops working when the battery is lower than a certain level. I cannot tell you what that level is, because the camera and video recording continues to work for a good while, and there are no indicators as to what the camera's battery level is.- the camera DOES NOT take pictures if it is connected via USB to a power source like a portable battery, or to the computer. you have to disconnect the USB cable to use it.In summary, please SAVE YOUR MONEY. This is not the social camera you are looking for. 1APP NO LONGER AVAILABLE!The Zagg Now Cam app is no longer available on Android or iOS. Without the app this product is useless and should not be being sold. I called Zagg and they tried to help me, but the app is just not available anymore. Had to return this camera along with a waterproof case I had purchased for it. Why is this still for sale? 1No Room Left on Your Phone? You Need This!My current smartphone only has 8 Gigs of space so I'm constantly cleaning the photos off to make room for more photos or apps I want to try out. The ZAGG Now Cam really helps with this problem. It can hold up to 1600 stills, has a setting for bursts, and can take video for half an hour. I don't have to worry about my phone filling up anymore - I take most photos with the ZAGG, especially outdoors in bright light. To check the photos or video on the go, you can pair it via bluetooth with your phone to look at your shots and share them on social media. You can also transfer them to the phone by cable. The same holds true for transferring directly to your computer - cable or bluetooth. (The camera doesn't include a cable but it's the kind of cable that comes with most devices, including Androids.) I prefer to transfer via cable to my Mac and skip the phone altogether. It's very quick and easy. This is a camera that's meant for social media and quick use. It's water resistant and sturdy. It's very small and has a magnet on the back that lets you mount it securely on metal, though I prefer using the built-in opening for a lanyard so I can put it around my neck and grab it on the go when I see something I want to shoot. This is not a super camera. There's no flash - but it takes perfectly acceptable photos - and it can take a 120 degree photo. It also serves as a speaker, too, and while it's not super-high quality either, it works fine and is loud enough to use in the car as a speaker when I use listen to Pandora or a favorite radio station on my phone. The sound quality is similar to a phone speaker but capable of lots more volume. This is a pocket camera that will fit a very small pocket. It's about 3"X2" - the dimensions listed on this page are bigger than it really is. (It lists 7" and that has to be the size of the box it comes in.) I love the small size and the light weight. It has a very intuitive and simple dial control with easy to see icons and turns the camera off after five minutes of non-use. (You can also press and hold the camera button to turn it off yourself.) A voice announces the camera's status, too, so you don't have to guess.Four stars because I wish it had a flash and a little higher resolution, but overall, this is a terrific little item. 4Really cool mini camera/video device. This thing is really cool. It is very easy to use and you can remove it from the package and immediately begin to shoot video. The only reason for a 4 is because I like looking at what I shoot after I shoot it and you can not do that with the ZAGG unless you have a phone with you. It is very easy to transfer so in reality I would give this thing a 4/5 with it probably being rated closer to 5 then 4.You get 4 settings. You can shoot pictures, video, 6 seconds of video and you have transfer capability. You can transfer through wireless, bluetooth of through connecting to your computer. All are pretty quick and painless. Bluetooth is easy and you just follow the instructions and you have the connection up and running pretty quick. One thing really neat about the ZAGG is you can connect your phone to it and connect to a pretty loud speaker. I was surprised at how loud the speaker is.The picture is pretty good. I had no issues with it. You get 4 gb of storage which is a decent amount and will give you a bit of recording time. The device is pretty small and can fit in a pocket easily or you can put it around your neck with the enclosed lanyard looking thing. All in all this is a cool device. I am going to be going to a few places where it would behoove me to use the ZAGG and I will try to upload a short video of where I go.Solid deal, great item. 4May appeal to some more than othersI think where this product loses me is the lack of a screen to see what you're getting a pic of or shooting. Additionally, when looking at the pricetag of over 100 bucks, I think it is safe to say that we should be able to at least expect a flash and either a larger capacity or a memory card slot. 4gb fills up pretty quickly, to be honest, especially if shooting videos. So, if you're out on vacation for example and spend time sight seeing and take lots of pics and shoot videos here and there along the way, you may find yourself out of space before the end of the day.Picture quality is ok, but without a flash you're pretty limited as far as where it will get good pics - you will always need good lighting in order to get decent or good pics. Since there's no screen to see what you're getting, you won't know if you're in a bad shadow or more badly lit area until you transfer the images/video or connect and view on the app. So, you may miss a memory that you were trying to film.At this pricepoint, you could buy an assortment of cellphones that allow you to see what you're filming, have the same amount or more memory, plus the ability to add a memory card for more storage, plus a flash. Likewise, there's some cameras on the market as well in the same price range that can also give you all of those features. The draw to this little gadget seems to be the size, the speaker, and perhaps the magnet and lanyard? I don't think any of those things are more important than the actual picture quality and almost necessary features like a flash. It is lightweight, easy to carry around and takes ok pictures and video when in well lit areas. The speaker is ok. Not too much better than my cell phone though, although the Zagg may go a bit louder than my phone (S5 Active). The app is 7.54mb and is easy to use. Not too much to it - there's no fun settings or editing. Just the ability to view, delete, or transfer the pics and videos.I don't know, maybe as time goes on I will find it more useful or maybe even find a certain specific use for it and therefore be more happy with it. At this point though, I don't see a reason to carry this as a camera since my phone camera functions better, fits as easily in a pocket, has a flash, has a screen to view and has more storage space. I hate to be the "Debbie Downer" on this product, but I can only speak my opinion. Even when looked at for social media use, I can't justify using this instead of my phone. 3A little quirky, but great for casual shots outdoorsI love how pocket sized this camera is, and the lack of a viewfinder is great for taking all the fussing out of casual shots -- I just hold it up and click and assume that I got what I wanted. It was super easy to set up and learn how to use for capturing photos, quick bursts, or videos. Transferring what I capture to my phone is a little bit irritating, in that instead of using Bluetooth it uses a device WiFi -- which means going into my phone settings to change the wifi connection to be able to transfer things over, and then going back again to return the wifi settings afterwards. Not too tedious, but more clicks than I generally want to deal with for doing something on the fly, which means that I wait until I'm done with a trip to upload the shots. The photo quality isn't awesome, and is much better outdoors in sunlight than indoors. The pic I uploaded here is typical of the indoor photo quality I've seen with this so far. There are a handful of other interesting feature to this -- there's a magnet on the same side of the device as the button, which means that not only can I use the magnet to hang it up when I'm not using it, but I can also start the video shooting and then hang it up somewhere and get in the video myself. It can also work as a Bluetooth speaker, although truthfully I haven't had much use for that, as the sound isn't that much better than what my iPhone alone can produce. 4It works pretty good. . .as a kid's toy, but not a kiddie cost Between all our phones and tablets, I wasn't sure if we could really make use of something like this or not.+ Compact+ Weather resistant+ Image taking, burst video (records for 6sec then auto-shuts off), and continuous video+ The rubber outside sleeve provides a good, no slip grip-- The cover for the Speaker power/control button flew off on it's own and cannot be found. The button still works, but no symbols on the plastic to remind us months later what this button is used for.+ Interestingly, you start the video recording then you have a magnetic mount allowing you to put the camera onto something metal and go hands-free recording. This was a good idea / feature.> I had to go to the vendor site to find out this is a 5MP device> As you can see the video is grainy indoors, especially on the edges when I started out.+ I've had worse cameras where when I was moving/running you couldn't see a thing, so this didn't do too bad.> Being directly in the sunlight was a bit blinding but you could still see the landscape on the outer edges versus the video get totally whited out-- Only 4GB? Really? Make this expandable with an SD card or at least 64Gb then maybe it would be worth looking into. I can buy a 64Gb SD card for less than $30 for my phone. Thus if the intent on this is for the user who has a phone that runs out of space, it doesn't offer much more for the inconvenience of having to carry around yet another device.-- $130 at the time of this writing. That is more than some phones, which can do so much more!!For example, for less than $110, I can get last year's Honor 4x phone, which is expandable to 32Gb and higher megapixel camera: Huawei Honor 4 Play 4G Unlocked Smartphone 5.0 inch Android 4.4 MSM8916 Quad Core 1.2GHz RAM 1GB ROM 8GB with WiFi Display 5MP+8MP, FDD-LTE & WCDMA & GSM (White)-- Which brings up the point that there is no display to know what is exactly in your view portFINAL THOUGHTS:Having owned the Flip video that eventually Cisco bought and then discontinued and two or three other mini-camcorders since, this video/camera leaves me feeling the minuses outweigh the pluses, by a good margin. You have to be a very specific niche market to get the most out of this, but many smartphones can do more for the same price. 2The ANSWER for fast, pro-looking social media 6 second bites! ( and MORE!) EASY to use, compact and sturdy.Terrific as a social media device! The one is all about on-the-go-portability, and it serves its purpose well. It is a tiny dynamo, and has proven to be PERFECT for those 6 second mini-movie epics that are so popular now. Super easy to connect via Bluetooth, and share like a pro!Good solid build, rugged in fact. 120 degree camera angle is most welcome, particularly when compared to most cell phone cameras. It can be used for still's, but why? This one is all about movement and fun! My best results came from shooting outside, in natural light. Images were crisp and clear. In the film and TV industry, you can bank that this will be used for casting - more and more casting and production wants to see the real you, not just a picture. My experience may be unique, but I booked a 3 day cable-tv gig by adding a 6 second ZAGG Cam Social to my picture submission.I can easily imagine this to be used in other ways, too. Certainly Real Estate agents. I can imagine new parents ( or grandparents, for that matter) as they document a child's growth, can you imagine how cool it might be to look at 6 second videos taken over a year or two? Priceless!Of course it is great at a party, club or concert, instant fun! Just watch the lighting, okay? More light is always better, and if you are doing a selfie, consider skin flattering lighting, always! NEVER fluorescent tube lights ( unless they happen to have filters, which few do ) You will have a better result with most neon, in fact. The Luxe packaging was also a nice plus - very high-end looking, and a substantial feel. I would not be shy at giving this as a gift. 5Haven't quite figured it out yet....I just received this and was soooo excited to start taking pictures! I plan to use it when we go on vacation, because it's easier than carrying a phone or camera. It also looks very plain, so most thieves wouldn't suspect what all it can do. But I've already ran into a snag and don't have time to trouble shoot tonight.First, I had trouble finding the app. A search wouldn't pull it up, so I had to do a google search and open it in the App Store. I was able to connect to my iPad (via Bluetooth) instantly. But when I go into the app, it says connection was unsuccessful. I've tried a few different things and nothing has got me connected yet. So.... Like I said I'll troubleshoot this issue later, because there is nothing in the instructions that I haven't done or that explains why it isn't working.I will say that I was expecting more since the price tag isn't cheap. The lack of a view finder is frustrating. I understand that it's meant to be used with a phone. But I end up taking 20 pictures, because I have no idea if I'm even getting what I want in the picture. Also it seems a little glitchy and loud. I'm hoping there's a way to stop it from "talking" with every dial change and every time I try to turn it off (haven't mastered that yet either). I did play my music playlist and was surprised at the strong sound that I got. I will definitely use this for working in the yard, so I don't have to carry my iPad with me.I'll definitely be trying to get it figured out, so we can use it on vacation and then I'll update my review.**update 8/16** Never got it to connect and won't charge. So I have never got any pictures if this yet!! Just too confusing & frustrating for me. 2Camera does a little bit of everything for times using a smartphone isn't practical or wanted, but has its limitationsYou may wonder why you'd need something like the ZAGG Now Cam when most people can take photos, record video and play music on their smartphone, especially when there's no screen to preview or review shots? I can see myself using this camera in situations I don't want to risk using my phone but may still want to record a moment either as a still or video. It also has a high capacity with space for up to 30 minutes of 720p HD video or 1,600 photos, which may be more than your phone or tablet can holdSince the ZAGG Now Cam is water resistant (and fully waterproof with an additional case) and attaches to a lanyard (includes three: one for your neck, one for your wrist and keychain), I can take this fishing for instance and not have to worry about it getting wet but still get that picture of the fish I caught. Or maybe you use it when you're doing something active outside but don't want to take a chance that you'll drop your phone. The lack of screen also keeps you more in the moment as you can't take time trying to frame that "perfect shot", but rather snap the photo hoping you got it. This may be one of those things that the instant gratification of digital cameras have spoiled us with, as we never knew with film cameras whether we "got the shot" until we got the film developed. An optional mounting kit is available for attaching to anything with a bar like a bicycle, motorcycle, stroller, Segway, what have you like a Go Pro. There's a magnet built in for attaching to metal surfaces and if you a strong magnet shirt pocket, you could conceivably use this as a body cam. That's the strength I think of this camera is that you can use it in nontraditional ways if you just get creative enough, especially with creative uses. For instance the "six second burst" feature is clearly meant for use with Vine, so a social media manager could give this to staff members with no experience to shoot video without having to worry bout editing it down. The camera has built-in connectivity for mobile devices with Bluetooth and generates its own wi-fi network that you can use to access photos and videos through an app on your phone or tablet. These are a little slow with larger files, so you will probably want to use the app mostly to check if your photo/video came out but use the included USB cable to download onto your computer. While it functions as a Bluetooth speaker, I didn't find much better than those on my mobile devices 4
