Customer Reviews

Update: Good for a short stint but the Kevlar doesn't help when the stitching falls apart... OK, after writing a bad review, I bought these gloves again! What? After reading other reviews, I realized: for the price, these gloves just aren't meant to last for a year. Brand new, they're fine: the fit is good, I like that they are supposed to be full protection, not just one hand like other brands say they are. *And do note: they run snug. I usually get a Medium; this time a Large, and they are fine.* I just didn't see any other brand I liked.[Former review: "I am so disappointed with these glove. I ordered in December, they had fallen apart by late May. And that's mostly just weekend work, not a job! I was going to use them for chainsaw work, but thought better of it when the stitching came apart, exposing my hand. From what kind of work? Post hole digging, folks. It looks like a solid glove, sure, and the fit was good, but c'mon, it's junk. And I do not carp lightly in reviews/yelps that kind of thing; this is honest."] 3Not suitable for cactus or thorns - poor puncture resistance. Bought these gloves to handle cactus and Palo Verde branches. I thought they would provide a measure of puncture resistance, but they failed miserably. They have reinforced finger and palm pads that have some puncture resistance, but the gaps between the pads provide none. Also the Kevlar lining might as well be cotton as thorns went right through unencumbered (see photo). Furthermore, the material between the fingers also has zero puncture resistance and were penetrated fully by glochids. To make matters worse, I continued to get pricked by glochids that were lodged in the gloves every time I put the gloves on until I "worked" the glochids out.On the plus side, the manufacture quality of the gloves is excellent (my problems are with the design for puncture resistance). I expect to get satisfactory use of these gloves as standard work gloves, but their price is too high in my option for that function alone.I can't comment on the durability as I haven't used them long enough, but expect they last some time. 3NO PROTECTION AGAINST THORNS ! I bought these for my Son who has several areas of thorn bushes that needs to be removed. They require hand measurements to buy the right size to wear - the online chart shows how to properly measure your hand. They arrived today as scheduled and were immediately tried out. THORNS go right through the gloves piercing the hands. DO NOT buy these Kevlar ( stop a bullet ! ) gloves thinking you are paying for protection against bushes and THORNS ! Disgusted... 1Poor Quality Gloves were used 5 to 6 hrs a day, for 2 weeks, handling lumber. They are coming apart at the seams. May be good for extremely light duty, but are not worth $30. Really disappointed with these. 1... these very heavily and often in ways that are stupid (like gardening) and they are beasts I use these very heavily and often in ways that are stupid (like gardening) and they are beasts. I've been wearing them out in three years and then buying a new one. I just bought another one. This time around I plan on not digging around in moist soil, which is perhaps the only chink in these gloves' armor, to see how many more years I can get out of them. The articulation is very good, it feel more like a tight leather glove than a winter glove.I tried gloves in this category before these but don't remember now what they were. A lot of it fell apart at the seams just sitting on the shelf. These are the real deal. 5Glove destroyer I have worked down range security contracts and own a small farm. I tore through other "high speed" gloves from Oakley and Blackhawk as well as leather and Mechanix types. All of these gloves would last about 6-8 work days on the farm. The Youngstown glove is now past the 30 work day mark and they are just getting broken in. I don't carve wood, shuck oysters or catch katana so I'm less worried about that type of puncture resistance. I have put my first pair through daunting paces fixing barbed wire fence, working on equipment and lots of chain sawing. Acids, bases, solvents and diesel. I set out to find the glove that could live up to my expectations and Youngstown Kevlar delivered.Update: Day ~60 on the farm and time to put this pair out to pasture. These Youngstown Kevlar Gloves have served me better than any of the 60 to 80 pair (a dozen brands and types) of gloves I have worn out. I washed them in the washing machine 3 times. I have already bought 3 more pair including one "military" type 5They run small I'm having the same issue as some other posters, they run SMALL. I always wear a medium in gloves. I measured according to their size recommendation and was an 8.5 which is the low end of their medium glove. It's so tight I can barely get it on and can't bend the fingers. I feel like if I wear them too long I would lose circulation in my fingers. 2Saved my finger Great gloves, was a little surprised when I didn't cut my hand with a saw since I wasn't even a little bit expecting it to stop a saw. Glove finger caught the edge of wood and it was pulled into it and it. Stopped the saw entirely, finger was still intact thank goodness. Only a little bit bruised. 5Looks like good quality - but get the next size up for men. I ordered the Large size after measuring my hands with the sizing guide. As soon as I opened them - I knew they were going to be too small and I was right. I could get my hand inside the gloves - but there was no way I was going to close my fingers to grip anything. I will return this large size and get the XL size. They fit my petite wife almost good enough for her to keep them - but she doesn't use a chainsaw. The quality appears to be very good. Amazon return process is amazing and exactly the way it should be - thanks Amazon. 4Chainsaw accessory worth getting, a 'must have' for long splitter work I used these for changing chainsaw chains and retensioning it. I have also found them to be the BEST glove for mechanical wood splitting (operating a splitter, not a maul). I used to wear leather gloves for wood splitting but I would wear the fingers out to holes before the season was over. These are less vulnerable to moisture penetrations and the kevlar doesn't wear appreciably from the woodwork.Review Update: I go through 1-2 pairs of these a year. I started buying extra sets so I could switch to dry gloves when these get sodden. The new batch I bought are different from the old ones. The Kevlar on the palm seems thinner and smoother. The old ones had a rougher surface and a thicker appearance. I didn't notice the change until my hand took an impact that hurt more than usual wearing these. After a few more 'wth?' moments I examined the new gloves and saw the difference. I'm shopping heavy duty work gloves again.one more note on wear : These gloves always wear a hole in the thumb below the top kevlar strip, in the soft, weaker material underneath. It might be specific to my work or work habits, but I thought it worth mentioning.Bottom Line : When I find a better glove, I'm switching. Dropping review score by one point to reflect the design changes. 4
