Customer Reviews

My sharpening skills improved 300% after purchasing the Vari-Grind attachment ... My sharpening skills improved 300% after purchasing the Vari-Grind attachment. It is one heavy and stable unit, that allows you to repeat the cutting angle time after time. I had a similar, but much lighter unit before - I always had to fiddle with it to try and repeat my cutting edge angle. Now I set the leg on the Vari - Grind, for the type of gouge I'm going to sharpen, set the leg tip on the holder, and sharpen. Ten to twenty seconds later I'm back cutting wood. 5Read all of the instructions. Sharping all of my lathe tools. I have to say, it takes all the guess work out of the equation. Thank you very much. I would recommend to any one that works with there lathe, or just your woodchisels 5Yep...this just making fingernail grinds etc a whole lot easier I did practice grinding my spindle gouges by hand including a fingernail grind on one of my smaller spindle gouges. Yah....they came out decent enough amazingly with enough practice but....I realized I do not want to spend that much time trying to get it right. To those who can do it by hand...hats off to you...I would love to and maybe over time just for the purpose of anal retentive obsession I will try to...but for everyday use the Vari_grind jig saves so so much time and repeatable without much difficulty. Still take some practice to get the roll from side to side proper without sliding across the wheel face but got it down and had nice grinds on my spindle and detail gouges.Nice product for sharpening spindle gouges especially those with side grinds etc... 5It's works so well I own 2 of them! I own the Oneway Wolvering grinding system, this is an attachment for that system. The entire system is A1 constructed as it is made in Canada. As I said before I own 2 of these one for my spindle gouges and the other one for my bowl gouges, doing it this way keeps me from adjusting the varigrind from one gouge to another. If anyone purchases one or even 2 of these I recommend that they cut a small block of wood and hot glue a nickel in the bottom of the block and make a quick depth adjuster for their gouges, makes using the varigrind a snap. 5don't sharpen gouge without this. This is a very sturdy and well built tool that is easy to use. Since I started using it to sharpen my bowl gouge my lathe work is so much more enjoyable. It takes just a minute to touch up the cutting edge with a perfect and repeatable edge. This also drastically reduced the amount of hand sanding the wood as it cuts so smoothly. 5... for at least 15 years and have been very pleased with it I have been using the Oneway Wolverine system for at least 15 years and have been very pleased with it. This new version of the grinding jig is superior to the original. Good product. 4Great tool to sharpen gouges I bought another brand and had a hard time securing the gouges in the jig at a level plane which led to uneven grings. This jig is much easier to set up and produces a much even grind. Wish I had bought it at first. I highly recommend! 5Great sharpening jig Takes some of the guess work out of sharpening. By no means does this jig do the sharpening for you. You still need to setup everything correctly and be consists, but it sure does help a lot 5Excellent product What can you say it's made by One Way in Canada, its an excellent product with quality in mind. This product will last me the rest of my life and probably be handed down in excellent shape when I no longer can turn. I own the entire Wolverine system that is created by One Way and all I can say its refreshing to see a company in this date and age that still puts out a A-1 product. As a matter of fact I have been tinkering with the idea of purchasing another one of the Vari-grinds ( one for by spindle gouges and another for my bowl gouges so the adjustment doesn't have to be changed so often. 5The Vari-grind basically makes it easy to repeat the grind for each tool You can sharpen your tools freehand and get a perfectly serviceable cutting edge. But I can't. At least not without removing a ton of steel and messing up the geometry of the cutting edge every time I do it. The Vari-grind basically makes it easy to repeat the grind for each tool. In my opinion, the exact angle of the grind isn't nearly as important as being able to repeat it over and over. I will never notice the difference between 40 degrees and 45 degrees. Get yourself a bowl gouge with a swept back grind (you can do that with this thing), and another one with a more standard grind for bowl bottoms, and you're all set. 4
