Customer Reviews

Almost a great product but has flawsWe had high expectations for this digital frame since we had already been using the smaller verion of this (DPF-0561) for about six months. We liked the smaller frame because, while it doesn't have the greatest resolution at 320x240, it was relatively inexpensive, displays all photos near perfect color and looks pretty good from a few feet away.Unfortunately, there are some problems with the DPF-0801 that might cause you to take a look at another brand. The DPF-0801 with its 640x480 resolution is definitely much crisper and clearer than the it's smaller version but the color is not as good. The whites are not as bright, flesh tones are a little too pink and all photos look a little washed out. They also took a step backward by no longer saving system settings in flash for when the unit is turned off. In other words, you have to set the transition and display settings every time the unit is turned on. I called customer service and they had the same problem with their unit so it appears to be a design problem rather something unique to my frame. The DPF-0561, however, saves settings after the power is turned off as you would expect it to.The last problem I had was that the adjustable leg on the back of the frame broke off after just one day of use. I guess this isn't too bad of a problem if you plan on hanging this on a wall but I keep mine on my desk at work.I plan on exchanging my frame with the hope that factory color settings just weren't adjusted properly and that the leg problem was just a fluke. I'm not too optimistic though. They have a product here on the verge of perfection for the price but it looks like they didn't want to take the extra step. 2Excellent productI just received this product as a gift, and love it! The resolution is magnificent, and it is easy to use right out of the box. It accepts a wide array of media cards, plus USB drives, so you can use just about anything. I had a spare sd card, and loaded the pictures I wanted onto it. Just stick it in the appropriate slot, and bingo, you're watching a slide show of your pictures! The size is good, and like I said the resolution is wonderful. Some of my pictures look like they're moving - can't wait to try short video clips! The only drawback that I've found, and the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars, is that it won't run on batteries, it must use AC plug. It would be nice if it could be more portable. Other than that, fantastic product for those of us who love showing off our digital pictures! 4Nice digital frame, but not what I neededI have a Panasonic Lumix camera that records movies with sound. I've been trying to find a frame that will play those movies. I tried this frame at Best Buy and the sound played, but when I got the frame myself it didn't work. I called Westinghouse and they say their frames don't play sound, so I guess me and the salesguy at Best Buy were nuts! But otherwise I really liked this frame. Both the stills and the video looked very good. Too bad it didn"t work for me. 4Do I have the same product people are describing?I'm a serious amateur photographer so I always thought these things were kind of dumb, but my kids got me one for Christmas and I love it. I'll soon be getting one for my parents. The colors are clear, crisp and correct. It takes all kinds of cards and I found it very easy to use.I've read a lot of just plain wrong comments in some of the other reviews. For instance: Yes it does take "photoshopped" or manipulated photos, as long as they are in standard JPEG format. The colors are true, most people are using uncalibrated MONITORS on their computers when they are messing with their photos and that is the likely source of any problem. I've had no problem loading photos into the local memory of the frame using XP. The two keys are in the last couple lines of the instructions, remember to "Safely Remove Device" and then you must turn off the frame and turn it back on for the photos to appear. Why didn't I give it 5 stars? A real nerdy answer. The manual does not list and I could not find, the technical specifications of the LCD. I want to know the nitty gritty, pixels, expected color space (appears to be sRGB), etc. so that I can optimize photos for it and get the most out of (or on:) the card. 4Good, but not Great. "hit or miss" product.I loved the in-store model. It looked crisp and clear. Great Christmas presents yeah? I bought 2 of these. I wrapped one up, and working with the other one (adding pictures, making sure they look ok). All is well so far. I bought a few 1gb SD cards for $9.99 off of Newegg.com (cheap as heck there). I loaded up my selected images, and put them on the frame. It looks amazing. The detail is there, and it's great image quality for a little 640x480 resolution 8"LCD. I was using a 4mp camera and a 6mp camera. The better the camera, the better the pictures of course. It's going great, until it decides to stop rendering my pictures. When it shows the images, it is like static on the screen. You can hardly tell what the image is of. !!!! I tried a few different cards (with same images) and it does the same thing. I press menu, and half the screen goes black :/ The buttons stop working (or responding, whichever) So you have to manually turn the thing off, and try again. So, I'm sitting here, typing up my review to let other potential customers know of my mishaps, and so far, it has decided to work. Which I guess means that it is a "hit or miss" sorta deal with this thing.Opps, I take that all back, it just went goofy on me again. I'll keep working with it, and try to find out what's wrong. But as the first reviewer said, something that costs this much, should work out of the box. Craftsman ship has gone down hill, and this product only supports that.I won't be buying another one. 2great frame, decent price, outstanding clarity for frame. This is a bit more in price than some of the smaller frames, but this one is outstanding in quality. Again, it has the standard multi-media card reader, MP3/MPEG playback, and 8mb internal memory (model 802 westinghouse has 128). But the greatest feature of this model is the 800x600 pixel quality high resolution screen, which is even better than the 10 inch frame by westinghouse(800x480). Hard to beat quality for about $60 more than standard 7" frames with 480x234 quality. This frame also features the mosaic view (4 pictures side by side rotating), which is great looking on the high resolution. Check this one out, worth the investment. 5Windows XP does not recognize this device!!!!I bought this frame as a Christmas present for my Mom. Sadly, when I tried to load some pictures into the FLASH memory, no Windows XP computer I own (and I have 3!) would recognize the frame via the mini usb port. They could not find a driver. Both the Westinghouse website and user's guide were useless---YES, I made sure the frame was OFF before connecting it to my computer!!!! That is the only solution offered!!!! There is no driver anywhere to download for this frame. The big selling point for me was the ability to load pictures from my computer into the frame memory. This thing is not cheap so regardless of whether it turns out the particular frame I bought was just coincidentally faulty or not, I have to give this a bad review. There is NO excuse for something this costly to malfunction right out of the box, and I don't have time to just exchange it and hope the next one works!!! I suspect it won't. I tried 2 different mini-usb cords just in case that was the issue. It wasn't. I wonder if any other commentors here have actually been able to download pictures into the frame memory??? Maybe Westinghouse is going to get a buttload of these things back after Christmas or MAYBE, they will have a website that offers a DRIVER (does anyone plan ahead, EVER??). Did they test this product at all before foisting it on a gulible "I'll buy anything because it's Christmas" public?? Most likely that's the case. Shame on Westinghouse!!!! I only gave it any stars because it does have a nice picture. Who cares, though, if you can't download your own photos onto it!!!!!!???? Buyer beware on this one!!!!! If flash drives that hang around teenagers necks all day at school can be made to work right out of the package, this should have been a no-brainer for the makers of this frame. I am disgusted and put-out. No more Westinghouse for me. I'll be in line at Best Buy for over an hour tomorrow, no doubt, to return this useless item I wasted almost $200 on. Plus I now have to locate something else for my poor Mom. Westinghouse, I am thoroughly disgusted. 1Such a DisappointmentI bought this for my parents, for Christmas. In addition, I filled a SD Card with photos of our family so they would already have ones to look at before my dad put ones from his digital camera into the frame. The frame was touchy and difficult to use, inserting the SD card very difficult. I tried using my CF card, to see if that was any easier, it wasn't. Then my dad accidentally put his SD card in the CF slot and lost it inside the frame - disaster. And there is absolutely no way to open the frame - it's all one hard plastic piece. I'll get them another digital frame, but nothing like this one - too difficult for their arthritic hands to use physically manuever and overpriced. 1good itemGrace could make the perfect gift for my mother despite estubo used was in good condition and my mom likes me that's what matters in the end thanks . 4Mine sort of works; depends on serial number / firmwareMine works; displays images from either internal memory or memory cards; displays images I have "photoshopped" (since I level colors and color correct virtually every photo). It seems to be clear from the manual that the only digital image file format it supports is JPEG (files saved with the .jpg extension) so some of the traffic about displaying some images and not others may be related to people having images in other formats such as bitmaps (.bmp) or TIF or GIF or the like.I found after a lot of searching a post in another place that says if the serial number starts with "W" the product "needs a firmware update" but there is apparently no way for a user to do that. The same post says if the serial number starts with "A" or "P" it doesn't need a firmware update. My frame serial number starts with "W"; it works; but the menu doesn't match the manual; there is no way to select "shuffle" so the photos always display in the same order; there is something intermittent in the whole thing because sometimes it will work with my computer through the USB cable and sometimes it won't and sometimes it stops working in the middle of something. The most reliable way to use it for me is to use a memory card and to manipulate the photos on the memory card in an external LEXAR media reader. 2
