Customer Reviews

Weller used to be fantastic stuff. Cord feels cheap. The cord's plastic jacket is incredibly stiff and there's no grommet where the cord meets the base of the soldering iron handle. The soldering iron tips are a pain in the ass to change - it's not as simple as just screwing them in.It's the right size and power for the job, but I feel cheated for the price. Weller used to be fantastic stuff. 3Doesn't last long On the positive side: I used it successfully for small electronics soldering. It heats up quickly. The negative: after a while it seemed to overheat, or the plastic was not able to stand the heat. It started melting it down, see picture. 1The perfect iron for working with modern electronic parts. Make sure you have a supply of .015" or .020" solder too! The perfect iron for working with modern electronic parts. My old round tip 15w iron was just too clumsy for small size of modern ICs and protoboards. I was slopping solder everywhere. With this I get it exactly where I want it and in the amount I want. .015" or .020" solder is a must too! 5A must for circuit board soldering Purchased for my husband who refurbishes small consumer electronics for our business. This has made his life so much easier. It gets into small spaces and makes precise joints. So wish we would have bought a micro-soldering iron much sooner. He has used it almost daily for 2 months and it hasn't hiccuped. 5I must have received a cheap defective iron. No it is a cheap iron. I must have received a defective iron. I have more than 40 years experience in electronics repair and this is the most disappointing soldering iron I can remember purchasing The tip broke on the second use and the entire iron is literally falling apart. This is a $9.99 disposable iron with a $46 price tag. This is such a cheap quality iron it leads me to question the "verified purchase" reviews". 1typical Weller quality Built well. Received in good condition and quickly. Not used yet but trust Weller. 5Excellent tool for surface mounted component work. Excellent product, seems to be well made (it should be for the price!). Used for work on surface mounted components on PCB and ultra fine tip as well as 12 watt heat level is perfect for this. Ordered through Prime and delivered in 2 days as promised. 5smart for small electronics soldering If you need a low temp soldering iron for repair of ic's or electronics that would destroy themselves with high heat, this might be the soldering iron for you. 12 watt tiny tiny tip....can take care of close up soldering with a Weller (good brand) iron. I use it for those fine wires in ho scale electronics to protect led's from high heat. I like this product a lot.Buy it before they add the taxes. With free shipping, it beats out the local stores since it costs no gas for your vehicle. If I needed two I'd buy it again. Good product, good price through Amazon. 4Great for soldering small wires or components to circuit boards. I like that I can replace a motor for my quadcopter without melting the whole circuit board. It does seem to take some time to melt the solder while trying to hold the tiny wires in place or it might be that I need more experience with it. So far it has worked well for me. Maybe a 20 watt or 25 watt would be as useful and not take so long to bring the solder to the proper temperature. I like the fine tip that keeps the heat just where it is needed. I may try a little higher wattage soldering pencil, but I'm satisfied that this is working well and it does what I need. It is new, so the power cord still wants to go back to the folded shape. I have to watch what happens when I put the pencil down on the rest to make sure the cord doesn't pull it off the rest and burn whatever work surface is. I hope it will lose some of it's springiness with continued use. 4Absolutely Necessary for Electronics. I was butchering my PCBs until I got this. Please, people, stop soldering small circuits with standard 60 watt, fat-tipped irons! I was also that moron who ruined a few game consoles and random household gadgets until I realized that I needed a less hot, smaller-tipped iron to do precision work. It makes what used to seem complicated so easy that I feel like a wizard. 5
