Customer Reviews

Tip is a little imperfect, but good enough for me. I'm not sure how tight the tolerances of this product are, but mine arrived with the very tip looking like it had either been dropped, or just not ground to the correct dimensions. See picture for details. I was not expecting a needle-sharp tip, but at least a pencil-sharp one that is symmetrical.Definitely not worth returning over, as it will still work just fine for my purposes. But this may be relevant to people who rely on this tip for very precise work. This is my first conical tip, so please leave a comment if this is within the usual tolerance of such tips, and I will revise the 3-star rating. 3Great for small jobs I needed a tip like this because I was working on a 3DS circuit board and it had to be a fine tip. I have this combined with a Weller WCL100 soldering station. I put the heat regulator knob at 3 so it wouldn't burn up the board and I used unleaded solder, which sometimes needs more heat to melt as well as leaded. This tip performed perfectly. Best of all it didn't even dull or lose it's point after 4 uses. 5This DOES fit the WLC100! I ordered this tip Jan 30, 2010... it arrived today, Feb 4, 2010. Very reasonable shipping time!As soon as I discovered it was in my mailbox, I rushed out to try it out... the old one easily came out, and the new one slid right now. Tightened it down.. then tried it out. With the bigger tip that the WLC100 came with, I had to use a heat setting of about 4, and it was a little bulky for soldering connections on circuit boards, etc. This new tip is absolutely fantastic... DAY AND NIGHT DIFFERENCE in the ease of use. If you need a more precise tip for circuit boards, etc... I highly recommend this tip, it makes soldering those delicate, tighter connections much, much easier.I was hesitant to order this tip because of another reviewer saying it did not fit his WLC100 station... but it does indeed fit perfectly and works great. I used a heat setting of 3 instead of 4 with this new tip, and it works perfectly. 5It's purty It always helps to buy the right tip for the right iron... I unfortunately did not. So my rating is based on the aesthetic quality of the tip.It looks fantastic. It's so nice looking, I may keep it and tell my kids it's the round that passed through the cow that we bought and I kept it for sentimental reasons. It only took me several hours to realize that it wasn't for the right iron. Please imagine me trying to continuously push this tip into my iron. That's not what happened, but it's a great visual. I tried twice, started taking my iron apart to see if there was some trick to it... and then put it back together in shame as I realized my mistake. 5Works great! I thought I couldn't solder, and then I got a nice iron and this tip. Apparently having the right tools makes all the difference! I work on a bunch of small electronics now and haven't had a issue. This tip works great and has held up great. 5You need this tip If you're buying the Weller soldering station that comes with the screwdriver style tip and you're planning on doing much circuit board work, you'll definitely want to get this tip too. It has a fine point, ideal for those .1 inch spacing solder pads. The default screwdriver style tip, while useful for many things, is just too clumbsy on a tight board. I worried about the point being too fine, that maybe it wouldn't transfer enough heat to the joint. But, so far, I haven't had problems with it when driven by the 40 watt soldering station (adjustable) and given enough time to come all the way up to temperature. 4and work your way up to figure out the best position for your device It can be tricky to use, but it's much more precise than the stock tip that came with my weller station. If you're used to another tip, just start at a lower temperature, and work your way up to figure out the best position for your device. On the Weller WLC100 40-Watt Soldering Station:1- Be sure your new tip is installed2- To heat up the tip, turn on the station, and turn the knob to 2.5If you want to quick-heat the tip, you can set the knob to maximum for 10 seconds, and then turn to 2.53- I find 2.5 to be a good resting temperature, since it's below the temperature required to actually melt the solder.4- Once I'm ready to solder, I turn the knob up to 3.2-3.4. If I want to be precise, and melt very little solder, I'll set it to 3.2. If I have larger surface areas to heat up, I generally turn it up a little higher.Great tip. Before using, be sure to tin the tip. This is done by melting solder onto the tip, completely covering it. This prevents corrosion of the tip, and assists in heat transfer (trust me, it's a noticeable effect). I tin the tip a few times an hour (generally, when I'm resting it in its holder). 4Weller TL7 1/32 inch Conical tip for the WLC100 Soldering Station Yes, this review category may be in the wrong section, but only somewhat. This Weller TL7 tip is used for the Weller WLC100 soldering station which is marketed as a hobby item, not a professional one. Pro models have removable cords and temperature control feedback to assure a constant temperature. None the less, this is a great, if not the best, soldering pencil an electronics hobbyist can get.I bought this TL7 conical (fine and pointy) tip because I think the provided TL6 chisel tip is too big and awkward for all general electronics work - hobbyist and pro. This tip works great when the temp control dial is set to "2". If I'm desoldering a lead on a ground plane, then I might have to temporarily crank the dial up to "3" or "4". 5It was the right tool for the job and preformed well.. Recently, on my car alarm fob, the 'lock' function stopped working. all other functions still worked fine. When I investigated, it turned out that the micro switch had popped off the small circuit board...Well, car fobs are not cheap, so i thought I'll try and fix that..However, the contacts for the micro switch are smaller than micro (smaller than a pin head). I have soldering equipment, but nothing that small. So I ordered this to do the job..I performed well. it was the right size, and with a pin-size drop of flux, it took me about 10 mins to fix the fob. 5Fine tip Used to un-solder and replace the light bulbs and stepper motors in my Silverado instrument cluster. The tip had a fine enough point to do the job. It was much better than the tip that came with the Weller WLC 100 -40 watt soldering iron. Both made the job easier with no damage to the circuit board if you have some experience. Since this is the only job I have done with the tip so far I can't say how long it will last, but I can say this is the tip to use on that specific task. 5
