Customer Reviews

Works well, as both a bridge, and a repeater. I needed something to make a WiFi signal into a wired one, which this did. My low review score is not due to it being a bad product, but due to lack of control of its abilities. What it comes with is, the device.. Pretty much that is about it.. A small useless manual, but if you know what you are doing, then you will never need to look at it. You do need your own power source though. You can power it through the USB port, which I am sure most people have an extra USB power adapter from a cell phone around.. Or, if like me.. I had a router that used one of those round plugs.. It actually was the same exact size, voltage, and at least as many amps as what I needed for this. Since I was not using the router any more, I just used that power cord to plug into the plug that is on the device, right next to where the cords come out. You have your own choice of which one you want to use. You do not need to use both though.I have a cell wifi adapter. It is a "ZTE Warp Connect" from Sprint. The ZTE Warp does not give you control over what WiFi channels it uses.. By default, it used channel 7 and 11 at first, then 3 and 7 next time I checked. By default, this device uses the exact same 2 channels.. My guess is, this device uses one channel to connect to the source device, the ZTE in this case, and the other to send a signal out to other things for you to connect to it.. That is why I wish I had more control over what channels either one of them uses. What I do like is the fact that I can take a WiFi connection, and turn it into a wired connection using this device. I had a local cable company for internet service, and they got too expensive after they bought out my old company. After they did, they raised prices.. I found a service that was a fraction of the cost, but lower speeds, and it went through a cell tower instead. But I still needed to connect my wired computers to that service. To that point, this device worked great. Not only that, but since it is a repeater too, it expands the coverage for me so I can use it at the back of the house, with a good connection too. Basically, it fit both of my needs with one inexpensive device. When I first set this device up, for some reason, it did not connect with my ZTE device very well. I had to reboot them both to get it to connect right. Ironic thing was, I never had any problem with connecting to the ZTE at that time with a laptop or my cell phone. I am not sure if it was this device, or the ZTE that was as fault though. Either way, once I got them working, they stayed working for quite a while. Then after about 3 weeks of use, I started getting glitchy service through it. I just rebooted both devices, and have not had any problem since.. Again, I am not sure if it was this device or the ZTE at fault there either.Overall, so far, I am happy with it. It has met all my needs, with no problem. and the price is reasonable too. I have only used it for about 2 months so far, but so far, I am happy with it. I gave it 3 stars due to limited control over some parts of its settings, and, because I had a small problem getting it to connect to my WiFi, and I did have to reboot it once.. But, not knowing if it was this device at fault, or the ZTE, I can not say for sure, so take that into account. 3It's not a bridge in the true sense It's not a bridge in the true sense. For a bridge, what I need is to take my wired printer and to present it to the Wifi network as a device. This is important for my applciation because then the other devices on my network could then send things TO the printer to print. This is what a bridge is supposed to be. But when this manual says bridge that's not what it means. What this device does is connect to the Wifi network, and then NAT the devices behind it to a new network. That'd be fine if all I wanted to do was to connect out from the printer to the Internet, but nothing on my local network would see the printer (because it would be behind the NAT).Also when I plugged it in, it could not see the wifi network in my house (from 5 feet away from the router). The device also froze up.The instruction manual has font size smaller than anything you've seen even the bottom line of the eye chart at the ophthalmologist. There are online videos with instructions but who has time for this.Another aspect of this device that is of concern is that I cringe putting it onto my network and connecting it to my computer, since it's clearly a foreign made device. Just seems like a massive IOT cybersecurity risk. This product does not meet my needs. Too late to return to Amazon, sigh, so going into recycling. 1Works excellent This product is awesome. Real review and did not receive this item for free or a reduced cost. Finally a product priced fairly and actually did exactly what it is supposed to. I needed this as an Ethernet bridge for a pc with bad wireless hardware. I didn't really need a wifi extender or additional hotspot, but was willing to live with it and just assumed I'd have to manage the interference if needed. However, turns out this device allows you to easily turn off the hotspot feature which was perfect for me as I didn't want any additional RF spewing in the house. I plugged the Ethernet cable and USB power in to my pc, browsed to the Vonet internal browser link provided, selected my wifi router from the list of hotspots it saw, entered my router name and password, shut off the repeater function on the wireless tab and hit save. It rebooted and within 3 minutes I had an Ethernet connection through dhcp IP. I can move this device to any device in my house that needs a wireless connection but doesn't have hardware. I.e., Xbox, home theater etc.Easy peasy and a nice small unit. Very happy. 5Looked promising I get my internet in my house through a Hotspot. Currently I tether that hotspot to a laptop and then share the internet connection to a router for everyone else to use. This allows me to bypass the 10 device limit of the hotspot, as well as have a broader signal range. I was hoping this device would replace the laptop in the equation. Not so.Getting it set up was relatively easy, and the speed worked fine with first test, but after 5 minutes, the internet speed would slow down to a crawl making it unusable. Thinking I just set something up wrong, I tried to get into the settings, but I couldn't get back into the set-up mode. I had to reset the whole device and go through the set-up process all over. In the end, I could not get it to function with a speed faster than dial-up, so I sent it back. 1Not the easiest to configure, here is my cookbook I need this to interface to a couple of wired Ethernet printers for a restaurant application. I'm not sure if I'm going to put a switch behind this or just get another one for the second printer. They're pretty cheap.....I must have reset the device to factory configurations 6+ times as I worked through the manual configuration. To get it to repeatedly and easily configure, attach it to you computer's Ethernet port, plug the power source into a usb connector, turn on airplane mode (wireless off), go in to the IPV4 properties for your computers wired Ethernet, turn off DHCP, set your computer address to 192.168.254.1, and set the gateway to the device 192.168.254.254. Once I did that, I could quickly and easily access the login page (192.165.254.254) after device resets with the reset button. My Mifi's network is 192.168.1.xxx. I found that if I gave the device a static IP address of 192.168.1.254 (way out of DHCP range), and set up the gateway and dns server in the device to be 192.168.1.1 (the router), once the device was rebooted and connected to the wireless I could easily access, upgrade, and manage it from the 192.168.1.254 address through my MiFi.Don't do too much more configuring until you have it working the first time and download and upgrade to the latest firmware (April 2019) as the saved configuration file becomes useless. The upgrade also says you must reset the device to the new factory settings (with the button on the back) to ensure that upgrade fully takes effect.Once I got the firmware upgraded, the wireless repeater off, the new IP address configured, a new admin password set, the device rebooted, and my computer IPv4 reset to DHCP everything now seems to work perfectly: my computer gets a DHCP address from the router through the device. and I can access and manage the access point if I need to in the future.I will update this as we put the device into service.Good Luck! 4Perfect solution for the problem! Hunted high and low and bought a lot of different products, but this is the only one that actually delivered! I needed to use a HotSpot to get internet TO a wired network. There was a half dozen configurations I tried with this unit (this was not difficult, I was just searching for which way was optimum for me, did a Factory Reset a several times), and my final configuration allowed me to program TWO different Hotspots into it (I think it allows many more) and just plug it into the WAN port of my router. all my devices now have internet plus full wired connectivity to everything on my LAN, no matter which of two different cell phones has its hotspot activated (it can take awhile for it to switch if you want to change your hotspot, but you can power cycle it for faster switching). I am buying a second one for my lab which only has WiFi but I need my own private wired LAN there too. Yes, you can use it with a router that provides its own private WiFi, just choose your channels wisely so they don't interfere with each other (good solution for a hotel room for better security). 5Works Well and Vonets Stands Behind Their Product. Can be a little tricky to program, but once that is done it works well. Be sure to turn off the repeater if using as a Wi-Fi card hooked to an Ethernet port, such as for a security camera or maybe some other Ethernet device. Works very well to convert an Ethernet only security camera to Wi-Fi. Just be sure that your system is not PoE+, as this will not supply power to your camera.UPDATE August 22nd, 2017: Unit failed. I was in contact with Lucy, the customer service rep for Vonets. She was very courteous and helpful. She offered to give credit for a new one or to contact Amazon for a return label. I chose to return the item through Amazon as my nephew had purchased another Vonets VAP11G-300 over the weekend. He programmed it and then installed it for me. The new one is working as it should and my second security camera is back up and running. This is the second Vonets VAP11G-300 wifi unit that I've installed. The first one has been installed and working for over a month now without any problems. Like anything else, sometimes you get a defective item but it's good to know that Vonets stands behind what they manufacture and sell. 5Easy Peasy for anyone with IT aptitude . . . 3rd Vonet device of this type. I love that once you configure them, you can just move them to any device with an ethernet and usb port. First one without an install cd. Hooked it up to a laptop, disabled built in wifi, enabled ethernet port, did an ipconfig /release, ipconfig /renew, and opened up chrome and browsed to address noted, entered wifi info in appropriate location. Resisted messing around with other settings, and boom, up and running. Rebooted and all good. Unplugged it and moved it to the Home Theater PC in the bedroom, plugged it in and was online.Haven't had any problems as yet. Other 2 devices work almost flawlessly - the first one has to be restarted occasionally, by unplugging USB and plugging back in, but it is at my Ex's house, and they have ongoing weird wifi issues, so not sure if it is the dongle or their multitude of MAC devices.I like these Vonets products. I suspect they can be a bit of a challenge to someone who lacks IT aptitude or training, but for me, I like them.If anything changes, I will update this review. 5You can change the UserID (default is admin) if you like. Recommend using one you will not forget This handy device will bridge your device to your wireless network, or act as a hotspot from a wired device (e.g. a wired only router). If you only want to bridge, be sure to turn off the wireless advertisement portion before doing anything else. For mine, the MAC address on the label is the wired MAC. I run MAC filtering on my wireless net, so I had to turn off filtering to figure out what the wireless side was. For me, it turned out is was one character down (ex: MAC printed on the device was xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:1D, and the wireless MAC was xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:1C). Once I figured that out, it was a simple setup.Once connected, you can lose the ability to configure the device. Make sure you've got it correct before connecting. It will pull its own IP, but if you have no way of monitoring your DHCP pool, it might take some testing before you find it on the network. You can, however, manage as you see fit.The device will tie itself to one, and only one, wireless access point. If you have multiple WAPs in your network, be sure you tie it to the correct one, otherwise the signal distance will increase, whereas most hand-held wireless devices will hop access points.Be sure and change the default password (admin). You can change the UserID (default is admin) if you like. Recommend using one you will not forget, or you'll have to go through the entire setup process again after you reset it.All in all, not a bad little device for the money. 4Awesome device. Awesome device. The little, and I mean it s tiny, manual that comes with it is a bit cryptic in its terminology, but that's mostly because there is very little wordage. Just a few words here and there, and it s easy to get confused as to what they mean. But technologically speaking, this device is awesome.Outside of the cryptic manual, it s actually easy to setup and use. I just connected it to my PC, browsed to its static IP of 192.168.254.254, and then used the Web GUI to set it up. That consisted of scanning for my WiFi hotspots (available SSIDs), selecting the one I wanted it to bridge, then giving it a static IP so I can always find it. Boom! Done! Now just plug it into any RJ45 port, and its on my network. I used this for an outdoor WiFi Security camera that had dropped off the network. WiFi on the camera wasn t working anymore, but once I plugged this into its RJ45 port the camera was back on the network and working flawlessly. And it s actually got better throughput than the camera s original WiFi connection. It also has the option of becoming a hotspot itself. This can be disabled if you like (which I did as I only needed the bridge for the camera) but it does offer the functionality of extending your WiFi network from the point it is deployed. So it s not only a great bridge for wired devices but also a WiFi extender.Unbeatable product at this price point! And it saved me from having to replace a WiFi camera that had lost its WiFi capabilities. The cameras I use are awesome in every respect except their WiFi circuitry. Crappy circuit that is prone to low bandwidth and utter shutdown. I ve had three of these cameras develop WiFi problems, but this little jewel saves them! 5
