I bring one with me for work as I'm a resolution snob and presenting on a client's VGA or bad resolution projectors makes our product not appear as nice as it is or could be. Colors are better defined and truer. Get this, the carrrying case, 25 ft HDMI cable and extension cord/multi outlet and walk into any meeting present "Like A Boss!" 5Good The good:Great first impression! Out of the box, it just works. Colors are a bit off (mainly due to the gamma and contrast), but it's fairly easy to dial in a close setting visually (using appropriate test images, like those from lagome.nl). I prefer to set "Brilliant Color" to 10, as it more closely resembles the colors I'm accustom to on other displays. It also seemed to give a more accurate gamma for me.Overall, this model is TIGHTLY in competition with the Optoma HD141X that I owned previously (it died). It was slightly cheaper to go this route for the replacement. I don't regret it at all here on my first week, so far!I can tell it is slightly brighter (3200 vs 3000 lumens) which is a plus in my setup (I like to keep a 60W equiv. LED bulb on when watching TV shows, and this one cuts through noticeably better). I however do not really notice much difference in contrast ratio (even though its "only" 22k:1 vs 23k:1).The less-good:I don't see in the menu any way to tweak individual colors, like I could on my Optoma. This isn't a huge deal, however, because subjectively, this one looks way better after tweaking the gamma, contrast, and brightness (again using lagome.nl test images mentioned above). The menu otherwise is so similar, I have my doubts that it was designed by either company. But most electronics like this are engineered by one company and branded by another.Other:I can't comment on the long run, but it's given me a handful of great hours so far! 5What an enjoyment!! This projector will totally change your impression of what a "projector" is like. It is sooooo sharp, bright, and clear, it is unbelievable. It makes you realize what an enjoyment large screen home theater is all about! Do not buy any projector that is not NATIVE 1080p. I bought one of the "cheapo" (it "supports" 1080p, which simply enlarge the pixel) and it was really awful. Everything is green and people look like ghosts. I returned it immediately and bought this ViewSonic. Oh boy what a difference! I decided to keep it right away!!The only little thing: there is no cover on the lenses when it came in. When I opened the package I accidentally touched the lenses. No big deal I guess, the image is still very good. Just be careful when you open the package.I bought one of the universal ceiling mount and installed it with very little effort. There are 5 mounting holes at the bottom of the unit. They are a little awkwardly positioned. I used only 3 holes and there is no problem.The sound quality is very loud and clear, but you probably still want a sound system. The noise level is minimum.Overall, a super buy!!! 5Excellent! This is a great projector, the colors are vibrant and picture very sharp. I had a few problems with my order but Amazon went above and beyond to resolve it. I paired it with an Elite screen as I wanted an indoor/outdoor setup. Sound quality is decent but I recommend hooking up external speakers for best experience. Price point is great for 1080p, get this, you won t be disappointed! 5Fantastic projector It is very bright so you can watch/play on it even with the windows open during the day (however darker scenes might be a little hard to see, duh) and for all the people complaining about the fan noise just love to complain about anything. Unless the projector has a liquid cooling system the thing is going to make a little noise, no doubt about it, but with the right speakers you'll hardly ever notice it at all (i have a $100 stereo set and the thing is right above my head and the fan doesn't bother me). The picture is great, i have it at 100" and would love to see it at its max at 300". Only things i would change about it is if you're using the built in speaker be aware it is actually fairly loud even at the volume at 1, so it will be a great speaker for a large room with a higher ceiling, and the fact that i have to re-change the picture setting (normal, dynamic, eco, supereco) everytime i adjust the volume or turn the projector on, a software patch with the ability to permanently keep the desired picture setting would be a nice touch. Overall 5/5 stars. 5Look elsewhere - this is just not up to par with other 1080p models on the market today My original review follows in quotes. I was not very happy at first. But five months later I have a more favorable opinion of this projector. The fan is still very noisy. And the onboard speaker resets to "on" every time I use it which is very annoying. However, the picture is fantastic. I barely notice the fan noise and muting the onboard speaker is just part of my turning on the system. The movie room is an awesome addition to our home. I have both an XBox One and an Amazon Fire TV device. Both deliver very good signals. My other TVs are all ultra high def, this project is standard 1080p and yet on the big screen the picture is just terrific. Clearly Viewsonic paid close attention to creating a great picture and they succeeded. And in the end, for me, that's what matters the most.My Initial Review right after I installed it and ran it for a few times: "Good picture - very noisy fan. Wished I'd got a different model. The manual picture frame adjustment is minimal - about an inch. Have to adjust the frame size in the menu to fit the screen--every time we turn it on. The fan is always super loud. Not noticeable in most movies but when it gets quiet I hear it. We have a 5.1 sound system so I don't need to use the onboard speaker. But it runs anyway and I have to mute it each time (more of an issue with the sound system). Overall it's an okay projector with too many faults. And the 3200 lumens seems questionable. We end up sitting in a dark room to get the best picture. My old 2000 lumen projector was not so finicky with light in the room." 4beautiful picture HD All I can say wow! Right out of the box, I installed on my ceiling bracket, replacing a resent projector I purchased before Christmas 2017. I connected all my media devise through my theater sound system, once I cut the projector on the picture came to life! I mean really clear, bright, beautiful picture HD, theater quality!If you are planning to get a theater projector, I wouldn t waste my time on these projectors, that viewers hyped-up at those $200 -350 price points, which I purchased before Just spend the extra $100-200, and get the ViewSonic PJD7720HD 3200... A Night and Day Difference!For those who were complaining about the loud fan noise, my cheaper projector made my ViewSonic sound like a baby sleeping!!! 5and this does not disappoint. Worth every penny I replaced my viewsonic PJD5234L with this. I mount it on the ceiling and the throw distance is much different so it took a couple of hours to set it up in a new location. Once all was done and hooked up I turned it on. I could not believe the difference in quality. You get what you pay for, and this does not disappoint. Worth every penny. Picture is perfectly clear. Contrast is amazing. I will note that the reason I had to buy this one is my old projector died. I replaced the bulb with an aftermarket one from goldenriver here on amazon. According to a professional I know, I fried the whole thing by putting that aftermarket bulb in. It maybe worked for a week before it stopped turning on. So FYI, just spend the $150 on an OEM bulb. 5Bright image, great picture quality I had initially purchased ViewSonic's lower-resolution projector (1024 x 768) in this same line of projectors and felt that was a great projector but I wanted the higher resolution, so I ordered this unit instead and will be returning the other one after comparing them side-by-side.This is a great projector. Here's what I like:1) Bright, bright image. If you are thinking outdoor movies like I am, this one is a winner due to the brightness.2) Great picture. I went straight for the good stuff and queued up some 1080P NFL videos. I wanted to see how fine the details looked when projected large, and I was certainly impressed. The ability of this projector to process motion is not as good as my plasma TV, but it performs well enough that I would not be the least bit embarrassed to host a super bowl party with this unit. The colors are outstanding. Good whites and blacks, and contrast is very good.3) Right now, it is about the price point. At this same price point (currently $549) you can get the Optoma HD142X, which is a very popular 1080P projector. After reading reviews, I opted to stick with the ViewSonic brand. I don't think there exists any projector at this price point that is clearly a better choice. You could spend double or triple the money, but I'm not sure what that would really do for you. This unit is already great.4) You can hear the speakers pretty well indoors, but don't expect too much.Things not to like:1) Kind of nitpicky, but there could be a cover for the lens.2) You can definitely hear the fan while the unit is on.3) Not a lot of inputs. The other ViewSonic at 1024 x 768 had more inputs and was therefore better-suited to giving presentations, since you could hook up just about anything. At 1080P, you should be thinking of this as more of a video projector than for presentations, although ViewSonic markets this unit as a cross-over projector that is good for both.4) This is a DLP unit, so there is a chance someone may see the rainbow artifact. I personally have not seen it.Other thoughts: I actually loved the 1024 x 768 projector in this series as well. I purchased it for backyard movies. It just bothered me that we would not be able to enjoy full 1080P on that projector. There is a slight bonus with the 1080P projector that I had not expected. The image is brighter, and the reason is not necesarily intuitive. Due to the wider aspect ratio, the projector sits slightly closer to the screen to fill up the entire width of the screen with the image....as a result of being slightly closer, the image is also slightly brighter. It is not by a huge amount, but it is noticeable. I had the two projectors side by side and the difference is real. The 1024 x 768 projector is still better than DVD quality and that is fine...but in the era of 4K TVs being the new standard, DVD-quality is now two generations behind. 1080P movies will be good enough for our household for years to come.On an 84" wide pull-down screen (96" diagonal for 1080P 16:9 content), this projector is plenty bright. I have the screen mounted under the eaves on the south side of the house, so it gets sun all day long....but there is no need to wait for the darkest of the night to fire this up. Honestly, you could watch movies outside on a cloudy day. Inside the house, the brightness is never an issue.I will update this review if the projector fails to provide good service.Update 5/22/2017:The only audio output is 3.5mm, so depending on what you want to do in terms of audio, that may be a factor for you. I recently upgraded to a Behringer B112W powered speaker so I have powerful portable sound to go with the projector, but it has no 3.5mm input. Most PA speakers do not. Not to fret, whoever, since there are adapters and converters aplenty to solve the problem of the mismatched projector output / speaker input. For my scenario, the 3.5mm stereo output has to be converted to 1/4" mono. Other option is to use aptx low-latency bluetooth transmitter in the 3.5mm projector audio output, since the speaker has built-in bluetooth receiver.Main thrust of this update is this: You may want to pay attention to inputs/outputs available because your audio solution may be subject to change.Update 6/10/2017:Added a picture to show brightness of projector 36 minutes prior to sunset.Another picture shows how Chromecast sits in the rear HDMI input, plus I have a Bluetooth transmitter hooked up in the 3.5mm audio output.Update 2/9/2018:I ran the projector for the Super Bowl out in the dining room as a second viewing option and we all ended up watching in the dining room for the entirety of the first half (probably because my wife put the food out there!), with the image projected very clearly directly onto the wall. My guests were thoroughly impressed with the picture quality and brightness. Around halftime, we all moved to the family room (60" LG plasma 1080p circa 2012) and the TV provides better image in almost every respect (fine detail, motion, and color accuracy), it is not quite the same as having the very large image that the projector provides, and in truth, the ViewSonic PJD7720 is not far behind in image quality.I hope you found this review helpful. 52nd Viewsonic projector, life span 2 years each. It "Was" a great projector, video quality, reliability etc. But even after routine maintenance and keeping this unit clean it only lasted 2 years ( including one bulb change) It does run hot , and the fans are a bit noisy, but it has to keep cool somehow. On its final leg with spots showing on the screen, the chip seems to be failing. This isn't our first Viewsonic projector that has done this. They seem to fail like clockwork every 2 years for us in January. I think I'm seeing a pattern here.... throw away disposable projectors with a nice dent in your wallet. I don't think I'll purchase another projector from Viewsonic due to the bad luck we seem to be having. Who wants to purchase a new projector every couple of years? It doesn't seem economical. 2
