Customer Reviews

Great for one-time use! This was a great pickup for me. I needed to make a legitimate copy of some software I own, but it required a dual layer DVD. This set of 3 was perfect. The reason why you need 3 and not 1, is because sometimes you mess up the burn or there was a bad burn -- and you don't want to sit and wait for another order to come in! 5The Best On The Market I had no trouble with these DVD+R DL Discs. They burned perfectly at 6x speed with my sony DVD-RW DRU820A DVD burner. I had ripped a 7.60gb movie that I own to my hdd. Than burned off the .ISO Image file. They even actually play in my panasonic dvd player, which in its manual states "Cannot play dvd+r's". Well apparently it can! Without no problems. They even work great for making back-up data-dvd's of your existing mp3 music collection. If you're thinking of going to try out a dual layer dvd-r. Get Verbatim. Verbatim DVD+R DL's are my first to try out with the dual layer format and I am sticking with them. 5Excellent media quality Quick Summary: Burns at 2.4x or 4x on Plextor 716A burner; Verbatim DVD+R DL burned with the Plextor 716A is PLAYABLE in EVERY DVD Player (at least 20 and counting) I have tried!!! Awesome.Full article:I recently used the Verbatim DVD+R DL media to back up a couple of my most popular DVD's. The original was 8.1GB in size and contained about 50 music videos. I couldn't get it to squeeze down to fit on a single layer disc. Verbatim DVD+R DL to the rescue!Using my new Plextor PX-716A burner (an excellent DVD Burner!), I used the included PlexTools program to make a copy of my DVD. Note, the original DVD is not protected in any way.I burned the DVD+R DL at 4x speed (approx. 28 min. to burn). There is a selection in the Plextor's software to "overwrite" the book type of the DVD+R DL so that it looks like a pressed dual-layer DVD to settop DVD players (to avoid a confusing older DVD players). I used this setting (it is by default) to burn the DVD.When it comes to DVD burning, there is no better test than the compatiblilty and quality test of the burned disc. The test is simple, put the burned DVD in as many players as you can and see how many can and cannot read it. Well, I have to say that I have tested this DVD+R DL in over 20 DVD players so far, and ALL have played it with NO COMPATIBILITY issues whatsoever. This finding is as good as or better than all DVD+R and DVD-R (single layer) I have ever used. After having read all the reviews on the web about how incompatible burned DVD+R DL discs are, I have to say, the Plextor 716A and Verbatim DVD+R DL combination blows everything else away.Yes, the discs are kinda expensive, but if you have valuable or irreplaceable DVDs to back up, they will work for you. As the old saying goes, you get what you pay for.Just a couple quick notes:1. To ensure compatibility among all DVD-Players, be sure you set your recording software to finalize all DVD+/-R's with the DVD-Rom booktype. If you do not, older DVD players may have trouble recognizing the DVD's. The Plextor drives have a setting (via Plextools) that will allow you to force them to always finalize with the DVD-Rom booktype!2. I have burned about 200 of these Verbatim DVD+R DL discs successfully and have used no other brand. I refuse to even try another brand. There have been only 2 out of all of them I had problems with. First one I put an adhesive label on, and the label warped the DVD. When I tried to "flatten" it, the DVD cracked center-to-edge and I had to toss it. Second disc had a few read errors on it near the layer switch. The bonding on that disc appeared to be a bit weak near the center, as some of the dye was inconsistent there. Go figure as to why the problem was at the layer break at the outer edge of the DVD. 5Great DVD's. Misleading Label on DVD. Best DVD's out there and the quality is great! My only complaint is that on the DVD's, the is a little icon "RW" (which usually means Re-Writable but that is misleading. I mad a mistake on one of them and attempted to erase it because I saw that icon. I did not shop for a re-writable DVD but thought that the label was annoying. Other than that, these are worth the buy! 4Recommended! When it comes to writable media, one has to keep in mind that there will be some sort of failure rate. With that said, I can definitely recommend this product for being as good (if not better) than other DL DVDs on the market. This is maybe the 4th or 5th time I have purchased these Verbatim dual layer DVDs - they are the kind of thing that most people will never need, but are indispensable when you do! I use DL DVDs for backing up operating system discs - though mostly these just sit in a spindle on a shelf once they have been written to, they are needed every now and then and I am happy to say they perform admirably! As I mentioned already, some failure rate is to be expected, and out of the 30 or so that I have used, two failed while being burned. Now, whether this is the direct fault of the Verbatim DLs, or something to do with my DVD burner, I simply cannot say. Still, a 6.6% failure rate is not terrible, and most people will probably not encounter any issues simply because these are not exactly an every day item for many. Some general bullet points:- These are compatible with both PC and Mac burners/readers.- They work very well to boot and install an operating system (tested with OSX 10.5-10.8)- They will ONLY work in Dual-Layer capable DVD players for DVD playbackAs a side note, if you are using these DVDs (or any for that matter) for critical operations (backing up files, Operating systems etc.), I highly recommend buying the DVDs in individual jewel cases. There have been several articles (PC Mag I believe) about how DVDs in spindles have a higher rate of failure due to the nature of that method of storage. Once I dig up the link I'll put it in the comments. My only wish in regards to this product would be for a lightscribe version to exist - I have all but eliminated the need to sharpie my DVDs using a lightscribe labeling DVD drive, and these DL DVDs are the only ones that still require the old chicken scratch. Overall, highly recommended - much preferable to Sony or Memorex! 5Don't Listen To Negetive Reviews....THIS IS A GREAT MEDIA I bought six of these dvd's from amazon and all of them have worked perfectly except one ....which i burnt at 4x ....but my dvd player is an old one which does not except dvd's burnt on a higher speed ( so it was my fault ) ....if u burn your data at 2.4x ....there is almost a 100 percent chance that it will work ...provided that you have a good dvd writer .....Some might say that ...2.4x is very slow ...but i would say that it ensure's two thing ...A)You give your movie a great chance to work on almost every dvd player available in the market ...even the one's which are 2 - 3 years old ...B) there will be less data error or writing error (as a whole) during the burning process .THIS MEDIA IS OFF VERY HIGH QUALITY AND IS BEST SUITED FOR ARCHIVING YOUR PRICELESS DVD COLLECTION . 5Good enough Thought I was buying brand new disks but one of the jewel cases was cracked and missing the outer suliphane but the disk looks clean and unesed so as long as it works I'm happy. Thank you 57.9GB of actual storrage Like with all digital storage, the advertised amount never equals up to what is accessible by the user. The formatted storage rate is right at 7.9GB so be wary of that when purchasing. Other then that, I was able to burn my contents onto the disk without any issues 5Even holds Linux system Working out well. We had tons of files, including Linux to download and transfer. So glad we got them. 5It fits what I need some day, I worry about my data, and bought this, to backup some of my important stuff. it certainly does its job, only had one disc busted.(although it just had one, it's expensive though :). later on these days, i used hard drive to mirror and backup, determined by the cost per gig, hard drive is way cheaper.i think that's why the DL is not that popular. but it's good to have to copy DVD movies, like The Superman Return. 4
