Customer Reviews

Took a little getting used to but worth the effort. When strapped on like in the photo, the setup feels more like its sole use is to grip the camera, like it's a barbell or something . I had read other reviews of how some find it so useful and comfortable so off to amusing things I went. What I found was loosening things up on my hand, pointing the wrist strap/hand strap connection just about parallel with my pinky made the whole setup loose for multi tasking with different fingers but at the same time I couldn't drop the camera unless I tried really hard and contorted my fingers in ways that don't happen naturally. It really has helped stabilize my zoomed shots and I can look at what I'm shooting better instead of 1 eye on the subject, one eye on the ground in front of me that I might get off balance and beat up the camera when it flew from my hand and banged something close enough for the shoulder strap to allow it to hit. From being a mountain biker, I've learned to fall in way to protect assets and my body (roll side first instead of hands out) so I'm now more confident that if I do trip my camera will have a better chance of surviving it .I'm using it on a Pentax X5 and have found the tripod mount on the bottom to work just as easily as the one on the camera and it does not interfere with the tilt it screen at all. It takes up less room in the bag than the shoulder strap as well, another perk, imoOverall I'm very very happy that I added this to my camera 5Great idea...except one thing. I purchased this strap so that I could hike through the Grand Tetons and not worry about the camera dangling from my neck or slipping from my sweaty grip as I bounced over boulders and bears. The wrist strap is what convinced me to buy this, and the price is great. However, there was one small design flaw that unfortunately was the lynchpin in the whole apparatus. The Velcro patches are both sewn on the same face of the neoprene strap (i.e., laying flat, the Velcro patches are both on top--one on the right; one on the left), which means that when the strap overlaps (as in the product picture), the Velcro on the right touches the bottom of the opposite (left half) strap (i.e., where there should be the other half of the Velcro). (If I were to describe my wrapped strap as a stack of material, it would be neoprene, Velcro, neoprene, Velcro. Instead, the correct way should be neoprene, Velcro, Velcro, neoprene so that the Velcro attaches to itself.) Therefore, the strap can't wrap closed around my wrist. I could, if I dared, face the two ends as though the strap was "clapping" itself around my wrist, but that leaves a four-inch "tab" of neoprene extending from my wrist, which defeats the security idea of a wrist strap.Far too many Amazon reviewers give a product one star because they didn't like the seller's interaction. I'm going to leave a positive note to make up for it. Despite the product having this one flaw (albeit a show-stopping one), the seller deserves credit for communicating with me and for taking care of a full refund right away. If they can get the manufacturer to fix the product, I would love to buy a new one from this seller (Accessory Genie).---EDIT JANUARY 2014---Since first writing my review a year and a half ago, I have been watching this item to see if/how it would improve. When I first bought this in August 2012, it was $6.99. Then I returned it (see review above) but before I could repurchase it, the price jumped within days to $9.99--and that's precisely why I did not repurchase it. Now it's sold by USA Gear (not Accessory Genie), and the price is $14.99. It's the same product, only with more branding...and a cleaning kit. Is this really something that gets dirty enough to warrant a cleaning kit? It's clearly not free, either. Why can't companies just be straightforward anymore? 2Looks Like a Winner! I bought this strap because I often take my camera with me while birdwatching. With both binoculars and a camera hanging around my neck I found that the one I needed was always under the other. Besides, both together weigh more than I care to carry on my neck! Now, I have my camera ready, but I can always let it dangle while I use my binoculars. The security (both from dropping and from theft) is a plus! I also like that the camera & grip fits in my camera bag well and is easier to get out of the bag than camera & neck strap. My new Nikon CoolPix P510 has a lot of controls on the top. It was a little difficult to reach all with the grip on, so I started sliding the grip on my hand with the top strap between my index finger and the next finger. Now, I can reach all of the buttons and dials I need. I just need to learn what they all do! I find that with this strap placement the grip is still comfortable and safe and secure on my hand.Other reviewers have mentioned that the small buckle doesn't hold the webbing strap and that it slips loose. My fix: I put the strap through the buckle twice and then tucked the whole buckle and strap combo down into the strap slot on the grip. Have had no problems with slipping so far.I highly recommend this product! 5Don't expect to use this grip and a quality tripod at the same time! It want work! On my original review I gave this a 4 star as I had not really had a chance to really use it. That is no longer true. I was really taking a liking to it when I discovered a very serious fault. I have to remove it if I want to use my tripod. Most quality tripods that I have seen have a removable attachment that goes on the camera and fits into a slot on the top of the tripod. Guess what? The DualGRIP's camera attachment has an excessive bend at each end that makes it impossible to attach my tripod's camera attachment to the screw hold provided. Oh, I am sure I could go out and find some cheap tripod that I might be able to screw into the hole, but I doubt that it would handle the weight of the my camera with a lens on it. I know the little table tripod that I have for a point and shoot will fit into the bracket and the hole provided, but it sure want handle my Nikon D5200 with a 18-55 mm lens, much less the 55-300 that I want to get. With that design screw-up it is definitely not a 5 star item. I am hoping that with my one pound sledge and my heavy vice that I can bend it enough that I can make it work. If not I will probably just have to put up with making the switch anytime I want to use the tripod. In a quick search on line I noticed that this may not be the only grip that has this problem. I would strongly recommend that anyone with which this is a real issue take a close look and maybe put this question out to those that have purchase a grip that you are interested in. 4Safety, Security and Comfort! I toured the MED this summer working for a cruise line and I knew that I would be seeing tones of beautiful places filled will thieves. This hand and wrist strap severed its purpose and more! The comfort was fairly pleasant and even though it is neoprene my skin could still breath and not become irritated in the hot weather. The hand strap was comfortable and allowed me to have a looser grip on the camera while waling and shooting, all though if you have a mid size camera you should really pair this with a battery extender as it will feel more natural and help with finger placements. The wrist strap was a bit long for my taste and felt like I was wearing a MASSIVE bracelet. This saved me several times! Not only could I let the camera hang from the strap (stupid I know) but It also prevented the camera from being stolen! It is just a quick snap in and snap out but when someone is trying to take it from you they wont know that! 5Not for Small Wrists I've had to criss-cross the wrist strap because I have smaller wrists. I'll be sewing some more velcro onto this item. I read the other reviews and I see what they mean about it being restrictive to your hand. However, I use a Nikon CoolPix P510 and I can shut the camera off or switch it on with my thumb. The picture snapping button is in a place where reaching it with my index finger, is not a problem.I did not know this camera came with the mounting screw. So, I purchased a couple little D-ring screws for the bottom of this. I still might switch it out because I am not particularly fond of the bottom piece. It moves my smaller hand, further away from my camera buttons. That D-ring screw will hold the strap of the camera just fine. The D-ring might solve other people's issues (with their particular cameras) about the viewer being blocked by the attachment.I fussed with the strap attaching this to my camera. I've got no issues or problems with it staying in place. I just flipped the strap end back over itself and pushed it through the strap holder. I also, put the strap holder closer to where the slit opening is for running the whole strap through. That *can* be adjusted, so, I adjusted it, too.Overall, I think this is a nice product and will function for me, just fine. I'm keeping my neck strap on my camera, too, though because I'm a klutz, 4Camera hand strap As you can see by looking at the wrist strap product picture, it is a little clunky looking. However, and this is a big however, it is comfortable, doesn't affect camera function (have a new Nikon B700 and it fits it well), allows me to hold my camera despite arthritic hands and looks pretty. I also have the sleeve in the same black floral design. It is a little cumbersome to fit the camera into the sleeve with the hand strap attached, but it can be done. Color coordinates with my red purse/camera bag. 5Not bad for the price I do a lot of nature photography and sometimes when I am looking to shoot a new scene, I will walk around the area and take lots of digital shots from different angles. Also, if I am at a public event with lots of people, I just hate having my Nikon around my neck and have often just carried it around in my hand. This strap does make it more secure when doing both of those, by keeping the camera in your hand and secured with the wrist strap. Its made by Vivitar and there is a big V on the outside of the item, and thank goodness they didn't spell out the name Vivitar because, being a Nikon owner, that just wouldn't have worked! LOL I like the item, and the price makes is a good value. I would like to have something come out that better fits my camera in particular, but since this is a generic item for all cameras, it will do. The item does mount on your neck strap post as well as your tripod mount. So, switching to tripod does mean unscrewing the Grip from the tripod mount - not exactly quick, but acceptable. 4 stars instead of 5 for having a big "V" on the outside. 4It's ok for small cameras, a little light duty, not for DSLR's It's a little light duty for a serious DSLR, more suited to small mirrorless cameras or small'ish entry level DSLR's like the Canon Rebel line. The main issue is the bottom attachement of the strap. On a large DSLR the strap has to reach the center of the camera and that is too far, creating the strap to be instable or too short. I was able to use it anyway because I had a bottom attachement with an offset that brings the strap to the edge of the DSLR, otherwise I would have returned it. Although there is a double threaded screw for the bottom fixation, it can't be used with a tripod without an extension as the shape of the fixation is too tall, preventing the tripod screw from reaching. Really look elsewhere... 2Great strap for my setup I use an SLR sling bag Case Logic CPL-107GY Camera Sling for DSLR, Gray for my Nikon D3200 camera, so it pretty much stays in the case slung over my back until I am ready to take pictures. I then swing the bag under my arm and it rests perfectly across my stomach and lower chest like a small table or tray secured to my body (think guitar strapped around a players neck and arm). So I just needed a comfortable short strap that wouldn't keep getting tangled up every time I took the camera out. The camera neck strap was way too cumbersome.I chose to not attach the wrist locking strap, as all I really wanted was something that would loosely wrap around the back of my hand to prevent the camera from just slipping away from me. I adjusted the strap so that it is loose enough to do that, but not so tight that it prevents me from rotating my hand for camera adjustments and position of the camera for portrait to landscape shots. I think other reviewers expectations would be that they could have the wrist strap tight and still be able to move their hand, it really doesn't work that way. I feel like it is very safe and secure the way I have it looser around my wrist. You can think about it, if you take your neck strap and wrap it around your wrist, you don't need it all that snug to still prevent you from dropping it.It is really perfect. Yes the lower mount of the strap does cover the bottom of the battery compartment, but it doesn't bother me at all. You have to fumble around with the battery door anyway, so its really not a issue to take one more step to turn the strap mount counterclockwise to make room for the battery door to open. You don't even have to take it off, just turn it. 5
