Customer Reviews

They work great except for two problemsMy wife bought these for me because i don't fal asleep aas early as she does. They work great except for two problems.1. The rigid plastic part that goes in your ear covered bya flimsy sponge. If not positioned right, they hurt.2. If the base of the unit is not directly facing the base that is attached to the tv, ak you will get is static. Of you move your arms and blockthe base, static. They are quite finicky. But if you get them right, they're excellent. I have some hearing loss and I've finally heard lines from movies that I've never heard before. Background sounds and conversations are clear and easy to hear.I'm thinking of getting another set for the living room.4This is the best gift I could give ourselvesThis is the best gift I could give ourselves! Now we can watch TV without bothering the younger folks who are trying to sleep. We can now hear gravel crunching, water being pouring over ice cubes and other sounds from our shows that we had not heard before. We highly recommend these.5Long-Time User of TV Ears Would Recommend This Newest ModelWe have been using and enjoying TV Ears for years and we have had a few versions in that amount of time, plus we have them at the ready both upstairs and downstairs. They are great if you have a hearing problem or simply want to enjoy TV while someone else wants a quiet environment for sleep or reading or whatever. I know this newest model has not had the best reviews but we have had no issue with them. The reception is better than any previous models. I must say, I am not crazy about the new earpiece but it can be rotated for more comfort and the system comes with a softer alternative. The arms on the headset can be adjusted quite a bit (instructions included) to achieve optimal comfort.4AVOID THE FRUSTRATION AND BUY SOMETHING THAT IS NOT LINE OF SIGHT TRANSMISSION!This is my second set of TV ears. Purchased the original many years ago when they first came out. The one thing that I found annoying is that the transmission is line of sight. I Purchased a new dual TV ears that was digital thinking that they had improved line of sight transmission. They have not. Anything that gets in the way of the line of sight from the transmitter to the TV ears causes a very loud static noise. You cannot use your iPad, read a magazine, newspaper or even look at your cell phone without causing disruption of the signal. For the price this is absolutely unacceptable. I wish I would ve sent them back but the packaging was inadvertently discarded. Subsequently bought a seinheiser RF pair of headphones in and immensely pleased with that purchase. AVOID THE FRUSTRATION AND BUY SOMETHING THAT IS NOT LINE OF SIGHT TRANSMISSION!1I would recommend them to anyoneBought these for my husband who cannot hear TV and wears 2 hearing aids. I can tell they work really well beacause he is actually bellly laughing at sitcoms, which he never really heard conversation before. I would recommend them to anyone. I bought 2 thinking I would wear them just incase the television muted as other earphones have done. But these do not mute the TV work great, so now if the battery runs low he can use the second pair. Great buy!!!5Just what we were hoping for!Very pleased with these headphones. We find them convenient and comfortable, contrary to some reviews claiming they hurt their ears.It is such a pleasure to be able to listen to volume at our own preference. Nice clear sound, easy to use.5Remember when you could hear the dialog? Here ya go.Having some hearing loss, my experience with today's TVs is that they don't deliver quality sound through their tiny speaker array, nor from the rather expensive "system" I've added to make the footsteps of the Jurassic dinosaurs shake the room. And, when I turn up the volume, what I get is massive quantity, but no better quality. The dialog is still somewhat muted despite that my neighbors can now hear it plainly. So, my state of denial [of hearing loss] notwithstanding, I purchased what seemed to be the aids that got a preponderance of good, albeit mixed reviews - The TV Ears. The most positive thing about TV Ears is that I can now "hear" the dialog, be it a news or music presentation. If that is what you are looking for, and generally if you're researching these, that's likely what you want, they are great. And I gave them a 4-star rating because that is exactly what I needed. If you want more - like sound quality or comfort (ouch), you will be sorely disappointed. You can crank up the volume, manipulate the tone, but all you get is louder or lower voices with some other sound in the background. Too much or too little can be annoying and can expose a "hiss", so it takes a bit of trial and error to get it just right. They absolutely must be within range and within line-of-site of the base, so you need to be sure to set it up right in the first place. And even at that, the signal isn't always perfect, in fact it's rarely perfect with some garbling to be expected - but it works. And last, while I'm happy with them, because as noted, they do what I wanted them to do, I can't imagine sitting down for more than a program or two given they are ungodly uncomfortable, but that might simply be because of the shape of my head - humanoid.Tip to Manufacturer: That you have to be sure to "turn off" the volume knob or the unit won't recharge isn't intuitive and isn't properly explained in your instructions. When the unit is place in the base/charger, that in itself should shut it down, as it commonplace with every other friggin' device of this sort. End rant.4Disappointed.We are very disappointed in our TV Ears. We purchased the Dual 5.0 digital ones. When we first received them they worked great. The sound quality was very good and we could hear and understand what the people in the TV shows were saying. But in less than a week the digital part stopped working. I called the company and talked to a surly tech person who had me try some things then determined they were in fact not working. He said to return them by USPS. And I had to create my own mailing label and pay the postage myself. He said I would be reimbursed but I haven t seen that yet. And, he wouldn t send out the replacements until he received the bad ones. So, we went two week without any. We got the new ones and again they worked great for 5-6 days then the digital went out on these also. The analog portion still works. The sound quality is not nearly as good as the digital was but it is better than nothing. With analog only they are not worth the price I paid though.2Used the TV Ears for YearsWe have used TV ears for years. My wife and I are hard if hearing, each to a different degree. The Ears allow individual volume adjustment and improve speech intelligibility; they are comfortable, light, and unobtrusive. Sound quality is OK, but not something an audiophile would admire. If music is your thing, you might want to go elsewhere. When our old Ears started to get shabby (after about 7 years of use) we purchased the new 5.0 system with the dual charging indicators and the dual row of infrared transmitters. Sound quality does not seem any different, but the signal strength has improved and is less bothered by line of sight obstructions. The new units also click into place for charging; the older ones look the same, but they just sit lightly atop the charging contacts and often lost contact.4DO NOT PURCHASE VIA AMAZON WAREHOUSE "DEALS"Wound up purchasing this via Amazon 3 separate times. First time, the item description did not say that they were analog--but when they arrived, they were clearly marked "analog" and did not work with our TV. They also were purchased via Amazon's Warehouse "Deals" and were missing, if I recall correctly, a cord and some ear pieces. So back they went.Second time, made certain the item was marked DIGITAL. Via warehouse deals, again. They simply did not work--which is why the original owner probably returned them in the first place. TV Ears confirmed that they weren't operating correctly. So, despite all the "inspected" stickers on the box, they weren't "inspected" very well.Third time--and we only did this because 2 audiologists and one ENT told us TV Ears would help--we ordered them via amazon but w/o Warehouse Deals. This time, they worked. So far, they have helped. Which is good, because they are made of rather cheap plastic and there's nothing to them except for the transmitter, which I am hoping is reasonable quality. They really don't look like they should cost $200+. There's nearly as much money in the fancy design packaging of several boxes as there is in the material the unit is made of. The real test will be the test of time. The cost is excessive given the unimpressive materials used in making the product. so far, they are helping my parents, and will be worth it IF they last--which remains to be seen. Definitely recommend ordering them either directly from TV Ears' website (where they are $230+) or directly from Amazon. Have had trouble w/ missing parts and non-functioning items from Warehouse Deals before. Never again.3
