Customer Reviews

and I love them! I bought 3 of these cameras recently, and I love them! :-) Here's my thoughts on them...POE switches: forget anything Cisco. I have a few 3550 POE switches, do NOT work with the camera at all, yet they work with my Cisco IP phones LOL. Some websites I've seen while Googling to see if it would work, claim Cisco does NOT follow the standard very strictly. However, Zyzel DOES. I have a Zyzel GS-1910 48 port switch. It can handle 3 of the cameras fine, because it only puts out 45 watts total for POE. With this switch I have 3 camera operating well. Each of the cameras consumes 15 watts as per the 802.af standard it adheres to. I am buying a Zyzel GS-2200-8HP this week which puts out 180 watts, and is an 8 port switch, all ports are POE. :-)Installation: went well, no issues. Just a little tedious drilling a 1+ inch hole thru the wall so the connector would fit, but after all that noise and mess all is well. Pointing the cameras I found is easy, once you discover the collar ring unscrews and the whole camera detaches from the wall-mount base :-)The camera: they all work well, night vision is crisp and clear, and daytime is phenomenal. One thing I was NOT happy about, however, is that the item sold here on Amazon is NOT the current version of the camera. It's a version 1.0 which Trendnet's website says is DISCONTINUED!!! The current version is 1.1, and I did NOT see anywhere on the Amazon product listing that informs anyone of this!!! That is one reason I only gave it 4 stars. I am highly agitated about this GLARING omission in the product listing.Support: not the best but no big surprise. Email ticket I entered was asking about the TrendnetView Pro software and how to make it work outside my network, reply received was totally useless. I can get each of the cameras to work with IE outside my network, but there is no documentation that details doing it with TrendnetView Pro. I'll figure it out anyway in time, I'm an IT consultant :-)Overall a good camera for the money and works well. I plan on adding more when I get the 2nd Zyzel POE switch this week. 4Could never get it to work even thought I have several trendnet ip cameras that work fine This camera would never setup. I tried for two days to get it to display an image. I could access it but I could never get it to reset to try and fix it. Also there is absolutely no support for the camera on trendnet's website. 1only windows, but decent image quality The picture quality is quite good. I post 2688x1520 pictures[...]taken every minute by this camera. The camera is designedwith a windows user in mind. I don't use windows and just configuredthe camera to ftp the pictures to my personal machine from where the latesetis pushed via cron to the webserver. I would never put that camera directly on theweb as it has a bad reputation of being hackable. This might have changedas they have hardened it a bit. Its possible to ssh into the camera but the "user"does not get a shell. One can however configure most basic stuff (like network stuff) withoutwindows. Just video and motion detection parts etc configuration does not work. 4Not impressed. Tendnet seams to be falling behind on ... Not impressed. Tendnet seams to be falling behind on keeping there firmware working properly. About 70% of the camera's functions work correctly. but I have have a few that are not. one the logs will not show anything on my camera. also the network storage is not working. I have 3 other trendnet cameras and I use similar network shares for all three camera's. this one is the only one that will not accept the path and login information that my other TV-IP310PI camera will.Update 2-24-2018Network storage still not working even with beta release of firmware. Support has been little help with this issue. 3Can't get it to work: NIGHTMARE Just got this camera. Followed the instructions EXACTLY with the "Camera Utility" software from the CD provided and got error message "Initialization Failed" then downloaded the software from their website; same result. Then I waited a LONG time on their support call line and never actually got a live human. I've installed many IP cameras before and this is the worst experience i've had. Can't recommend that anyone buy it. 14MP Version is adequate So far I have (2) of these 4 MP PoE cameras. Resolution of the 4 MP is barely adequate, so I would not recommend the 2 MP and forget the 1.3 MP unless you just want basic security monitoring. For me, I like having a 'window' to the outside world while I work in my home office. I live at a small desert airport and I like to keep an eye on the comings and goings of the runway and airport driveway so 4 MP gives me an adequate view of what's going on, even at a distance. When there is something to see the 4MP gives me enough definition to zoom in (digitally) to get a closer look, but I wouldn't say it is actually 4 mega pixel quality. I still have an Intel 1.3 MP camera that I bought in 1999 and if I take a photo of the same scene my that my TrendNet 4 MP camera is pointed at, there is no comparison. With the 1.3 MP Intel I can clearly read license plates at a distance, but with the 4 MP TrendNet - no way! There's just not enough detail to see small details. What really let's this product down is the software and the support. The software has a very limited versatility for setting up the display of live feeds. Using the TRENDnetVIEWPro software, there is no way to zoom-in, and adjusting the layout of live feeds is extremely limited. You can get a full-screen view of a camera feed, which will give you a sharper view, but it takes several seconds for the software to adjust to full resolution; and by that time the action has already past, making it pretty useless. Worst of all, when any kind of scheduled or motion capture video is turned on the software will eventually crash within a few hours, e.g. if I turn on the motion capture at night it will crash by the time I wake up in the morning - again, making it useless! What good is a security system that crashes once a day? And when it crashes it loses all previously recorded video, thus useless!Technical support is out of Chennai India and is staffed by people who are at the same time extremely arrogant and barely acquainted with modern technology. I have spent several hours online with these folks and have got to know a few of them pretty well. We have to remember that some of these 3rd world cultures are just coming out of the 'dark ages' technologically, so I have extra patience for these people. However, there is no excuse for the fact that 50% of the information given to me by their tech support staff is either inaccurate or outright wrong! Each time I call I have had only simple questions and each time it's taken them hours of struggle just to accomplish the simplest things. In the end I ended up solving the problems myself, such as the setup program on the CD fails to detect a new camera, so I set-up and change the IP address manually, etc.The cameras and firmware are designed in California and are basically sound. IMPORTANTLY--If you update the firmware, be sure to check the sticker on the camera for v1.0 or v1.1, etc. and only use the firmware that is associated with that version, else you will brick the camera! Otherwise, plan on spending about $60 for third party software; because the cameras are useless unless you've got descent software to run them. Just search "security camera software". 3Have to constantly be taken care of. Like the bullet style better. Bought two of the bullet cameras for my house and I wanted these dome cameras as my other two cameras because they are more hidden than the bullet cameras. Compared to the bullet style of this same cameras these are not very good. Immediately I had issues with the night vision and little specs of dust ruining the whole picture. Which was only my fault of course, I cleaned the camera very very well and it came out somewhat better. The picture is still somewhat fuzzy but it's usable to my needs. The one major issue i have is the camera was disconnected at one time to do some updates to my internet and for about 2 weeks now the camera and DVR do not want to communicate. The device web page would not even come up for a couple days. I've had the bullet cameras for about 2 years now and they have been absolutely maintenance free. The picture quality is not very good. If you live in a harsh environment and cannot take care of your cameras do not get this style, use the bullet style. 2Not only does the camera require users to have Microsoft ... Not only does the camera require users to have Microsoft Internet Explorer, but you must access the camera directly through a separate PoE switch - not even through their own NVR built-in PoE switch to set the configuration of the camera. I returned this item. 1Major Headache make sure you don't get one with old firmware or also in my case, an old model that has been made obsolete. If you're not asking anything out of the ordinary from it, you might be ok. I'm giving Trendnet support one more try to move past the rookie "pop up blocker, firewall excuses" before this thing goes back to amazon. 1Doesn't work with Windows 10 I have 5 of these cameras (310 and 314 models) and upgraded one of them to the newest firmware. It no longer works with Internet Explorer. It never worked with Microsoft Edge and it no longer works with Firefox. The 314 camera is only 15 months old. I have a virtual Windows 7 system which has Firefox 40.0.3 and the model 314 works with firmware 5.4.1 and the model 310 firmware 5.1.8 works too. The model 310 firmware 5.3.4 is flakey with Firefox 40.0.3. On windows 10 IE version 11.540.15063.0 the model 310 with the older firmware works. Neither model works with the newer firmware ( your just stuck on the logon page). Note that the TRENDnet support web site indicates only Internet Explorer and Safari are supported and that end of life cameras will not be supported! Note that all of the cameras work with TRENDnetVIEW Pro but you wont be able to configure the cameras with Windows 10. 1
