Customer Reviews

Good for a NightliteI bought this for my sister-in-law. I couldn't get the android app to see the device so I gave up reboxed and left a note saying "free if you can make it work". That will be the day huh. 1Look Elsewhere...Drops offline a lot - Gave up on it, too late to return.Figured since this was also an AC Network extender, two birds with one stone - NOT.Replaced with Zettaguard - night and day difference. 1Not what I was hoping for. Time to spend a few more dollars for another device that might work better.Whoa, I'm a very technical person and work in the industry and this has got to be one of the weirdest setup procedures I've ever seen. It took over 30 minutes to get it configured. What's wrong with a device that joins your wireless network via DHCP? What about a web page to access and configure the device?I seriously have to join it's wifi network just to configure it to join mine?It also did almost nothing to increase my wireless range.I'll be packing this up and returning it soon. 1This is horrible product. Trendnet smart home app keeps showing "connecting" ...This is horrible product. Trendnet smart home app keeps showing "connecting" and only able to connect to it 3 times since I received it. The device is about 20 feet from my wireless router. I made mistake placed box in recycle bin and now cannot return anymore. 1Does what I wanted it to do-- Needs better setup directionsIt took me a while, but I finally got this to work the way I wanted it to. The written instructions that come with it are just ok to get things set up, but they don't include some extra steps you should take via the admin config online. The admin config is located at default IP 192.168.10.100 once you're connected to the device, but that may change to a dynamically assigned address soon after connection to your main wireless router, as mine was. Basically, you simply use the IP address you see when you use the app to add the device (typically 192.168.x.x).My main wifi router is a little older ("N" band instead of the modern "AC" band), so I have to use 2.4G instead of 5G, which is no big deal (300 Mbps max works great for me), but if you have an "N" band router, as well, and can't figure out why you can't get anything done connecting to the 5G, this is just an indication that you should try the 24G instead.Once you login to that admin config page, you can make your final config to make this thing work perfectly as a repeater under the "Wireless" section, Wi-Fi 2.4G Settings (if you use "N" band) or Wi-Fi 5G Settings (if you use "AC" band). If you're looking for a simple repeater for your home or office wifi in a room where it's very weak, just click "Site Survey." If your wifi SSID shows up on the list, you're on the right track-- Simply click the selector beside the name of your wifi, enter your wifi password, click "Apply," and you're all set.Better detail is provided by in pdf format by TRENDnet here: [...] 4A couple of things bother me with this product.A couple of things bother me with this product. First, it appears that if the device drops its network connection the outlet shuts off. I wish the outlet would stay in the state it was in when it had the network connection. Secondly, we found it very challenging to get more than one of these to work well on our local network. Both were set at static IP addresses but they seemed to be fighting each other from time to time. Finally, I am curious how this device, using the app that is available with the device, gets thru our router over the cell network without having to put any settings or port forwarding in the router. As easy as it is to become paranoid in today's invasive tech world it made us wonder a bit what else could get thru the same "opening". We have used both the Model THA-103AC and the THA-101. Both essentially boost and forward a signal from your existing wireless network. With the THA-101 you could give the device it's own SSID but we had no luck doing that with the THA-103AC so we never new if we were connecting to the initial SSID or the boost signal from the THA-103AC. On the plus side, both of these units did provide a much faster wireless signal than the NETGEAR N300 Wi-Fi Range Extender, Essentials Edition (EX2700). We could only get 5 Mbps thru the Netgear device but were in the 20 to 30 Mbps range with the Trendnet devices. 2This product serves my need as a wifi-extender. The ...This product serves my need as a wifi-extender.The only caveat is to find the correct IP, which is not well documented in the manual. After it is connected to the main router, the IP is not 192.168.10.100 anymore. The IP is reassigned by the main router. You need to log in the main router to find the assigned IP for this extender. 5As described. Drops connection every once in a while ...As described. Drops connection every once in a while and have to reset. I have 2 of them and both do the same thing. Thanks. 4
