Customer Reviews

A Little Thinner than I had Expected Good quality leather. No blemishes on the skin side. A little thinner than I had anticipated but it did the job. I mounted it on MDF as I wanted a substrate that would have dimensional stability and stay flat. I strop on the skin rather than the flesh side. Some parts may be thinner than the rest but that is the nature of a natural material. If you strop often enough, a sharpening is often unnecessary. Unless you chip or roll an edge that is. With these and some compound I'm able to whittle hair without buying those "6000 grit" whetstones. 5A must have if you sharpen any of your own tools I've never stropped anything before. I was curious how much it would help in my honing process (sharpening chisels and planes). Boy oh boy does this take my honing to the next level. Combine this with a fine compound (google videos on 'charging a strop'), and I get a razor-sharp, mirror-finish on all of my tools. 5Stropping is the only way to sharpen. I bought this product to put the finishing edge on my chisels and plane blades after sharpening. I never believed it would make such an extreme difference! The chisels are so sharp I can shave with them, literally.Save your money and don't buy the ultra high grit wet stones and diamond plates. Get it to 6 or 8000 and then strop. The strop with extra fine buffing compound made all the difference! 5Leather strop Works exactly as expected. I use it to sharpen my chisels and plane irons and it works really well. I've tried stropping with the rough side of the leather up and with the rough side down... honestly, I can't notice any difference. 5Great Product I don't understand the negative reviews for this product. The leather is great quality for its intended use and the perfect size for stropping a medium or even large size blade.I purchased this with Woodstock D2902 1-Pound Extra Fine Buffing Compound, Green and has worked very well to bring my knives to a mirror finish and a razor sharp edge. Its a good quality piece of leather and works very well. I'd be quick to recommend this to a friend. 5Perfect strop for mounting to a piece of wood. This leather strop is exactly what I needed to be able to strop my plane irons, chisels, and kitchen knives. I simply glued this piece of leather to a piece of mahogany board using 2x3g Gorilla Super Glue. This allows me to strop any item I want. I can put the block of wood in my vise and strop away. All I had to do was charge it with a stropping compound and it works great. I have included pictures of edges that I was able to produce using my sharpening plates and this strop. You can see dimensions in the photos I have uploaded.Pros:*Glues well to a board*Great surface for stropping*Nice amount of surface area to strop onCons:*NoneAdditional Considerations:Be aware, when you order this strop you are simply getting the leather only. All of my pictures show it mounted to a block of wood because I glued it to that block of wood. That will not come with the purchase.Overall: 5/5 stars (>=.5 rounds up, <.5 rounds down) => 5 starsIf you have any further questions regarding the product in my review please leave a comment below and I will get back to you as soon as possible. 5Just as advertised. Since picking up on edc knives I really wanted to learn how to sharpen, so I did a little research and ordered some extra fine green stropping compound and colored on some cardboard. It worked out just okay, but I knew I needed some leather. Picked up this nifty leather pad and couldn't be any more satisfied. Anytime I want to touch up one of my knives i'll toss it on the pad with a good, equal amount of passes. Hopefully it lasts a while! Great size, although if you're trying to strop a machete or edge of that same size, you may want to go with a larger pad or different method entirely :) 5It's a good leather and I can achieve razor sharp edges with ... I use this to strop my knives. Some folks glue this to a board, but it is not necessary. I place this on a bounty paper towel and it holds firm on a glass table. I use it with Herb's Yellowstone Honing and Stropping Compound and the reason why is because the color matches the leather. When you glide your knife over the leather with this, you can see the metal coming off compared to the other colored compounds. It's a good leather and I can achieve razor sharp edges with my cheap Morakniv $13 knife or $100+ Esee knives. 5Decent leather, slicks quickly and is a little thin, but works alright Top grain of leather with the very rough sliced grain on the backside. No tanner makes this nice for loading green compound into, although either this leather or my compound is being finicky because this leather slicks almost immediately, meaning I have to clean it more often than I like. The thickness of the leather is questionable, and I'd like something a mil or so thicker to get a better mushroom around my blades as I'm stropping them, but that isn't the product on offer, so no reduction for that.If you're new to stropping, buy two. You're going to cut the heck out of the first one on accident. 3inexpensive strop material, works great. I bought this as the final step for sharpening chisels, it works great. very thick leather, around 1/8" thick. it's rigid, and holds green polishing compound well. Wide enough for my #4 plane blade, with room to spare. 5
