Customer Reviews

Works perfect, and glad it has HDMI arcSpeaker quality is much better than what my TV has, and the subwoofer is great and adds a lot to the range of sound. I am connecting to HDMI arc from TV, and the kids don't have to mess with 2 remotes as the TV remote controls the soundbar volume. I LOVE this feature. I also needed a soundbar less than 35", which is surprisingly hard to find with HDMI arc. This fits perfect.5Bad Remote!Connected it last night to my Toshiba 40E220U TV and it will work with the front buttons on the sound bar but will not work with the included remote control.. I changed the battery and still no response from the remote so I can only use it by manually turning it on and adjusting the volume on the sound bar controls.Talked to the Amazon Tech help through CHAT and they said it is a third party devise and the third party has to replace the remote. He said he would call them and get a replacement, then he called me and I could not understand him on the phone. I asked him to email me the instructions and he has not done so at this time.1Great for the price.I don t understand any of the complaints. I use this for my tv in my bedroom and I am very pleased with it. Sounds great! I have a Bose soundbar in my living room and did not want to pay that much for soundbar in my bedroom.5Decent SoundbarThis was a little more difficult to setup than I had hoped. First off, don't plug anything in. It auto-pairs the bar to the subwolfer, so plug them both into AC power at the same time and then turn on the sound bar, you'll save yourself a lot of mintues if you do that. Next, there are different color lights that indicate what input "mode" your in, but nothing tells you what color lights do what. I would have loved a little color coded card included with it that said "Green light is AUX 1/8" input, and White Light is HDMI (ARC) input." Cause you really have no idea what input you're on until you hear sound, and it turns out the app I was using does navigation sounds on the TV speakers but for some reason doesn't play the navigation sounds when connected to this soundbar via HDMI (ARC) so I spent over a half hour trying to figure out why this thing wasn't working, when it was working the whole time. Lastly, I wall mounted this Toshiba soundbar underneath a wall mounted Toshiba TV, and it's slightly off center. Not off-center enough that anyone would ever notice, but I noticed... it would have been nice if they had included a paper wall template where you could see the center lettering of the brand name on the template and tape it to the wall and level it before punching holes in the wall. Finally, the sound isn't very controllable, like I can change sound modes, but can't really fine-tune things like how much power is going to the subwolfer. My main concern was "Would this be better than the speakers built-in the TV" cause power wise the specs didn't look that much better... but I do gotta say it is definitely a big improvement to the sound, and I love that HDMI (ARC) lets it turn on/off automatically with the TV remote. I was weary of buying any sound that wasn't 5.1 or better, but for the location I put this, I think it's a good fit. It's a nice improvement upon the base stereo sound of the built-in TV speakers, without a big complicated multi-remote system or big expense.4Great soundbar with HDMI (ARC)I purchased a Samsung 58" 4K tv several weeks ago and did not like the sound bouncing off the wall . This TV did have a HDMI( ARC) designated slot and the newly released Toshiba also offered A HDMI( ARC) connection. I purchased a premium HDMI cable for 4k Ultra HD from Walmart ($13) and the set up was simple and remarkable. My ATT Direct TV remote control works with both and was auto connected. I can now hear the sound crisply at low volumes and love the remote wireless bass speaker. The soundbar speaker volume is far more powerful than needed for my living room application and looks great underneath the TV. Few, if any soundbars in this price range even offer a HDMI connection. You simply can't beat this price from Amazon and it ships FREE!. I am not Audio savy but I think this is one great product.5For the price, a good soundbar.Since there are two listings in this, I should start by stating that I got the version with the wireless subwoofer.Unboxing was mildly amusing - it came in a box that was a little overly large for the soundbar, containing the soundbar and three smaller boxes within, labeled in turn "connector box", "subwoofer box", and "empty box". Had to chuckle at standardized packaging forcing them to include a specifically-labeled empty box.Instructions were basically nonexistent, and for the most part unnecessary. It's a very straightforward unit.Setup went extremely smoothly except for one small issue with the HDMI ARC setup with my LG Smart TV. I'd plug in the HDMI cable and just get a blinking white light and no sound (there's where the instructions could have been a little more clear - there was no indication whatsoever what the various lights meant). After digging through the setup menus in the TV, I discovered that HDMI ARC had two modes, "Auto" and "PCM". Changing it to "PCM" made everything work instantly. So a line in the instructions that the sound bar expects Pulsed Code Modulation (PCM) input for HDMI ARC would have saved me some hassle - but no big deal. The remote is nice but feels like something that should be handled with a great deal of care, but once the initial setup was complete HDMI ARC turns the unit on and off with the TV and my TV remote controls the volume, so that is of little concern - all of the buttons work and it'll go safely in a drawer and be rarely used."Equalizer" adjustment is very rudimentary. You get "News" (slightly lower bass), "Movie" (higher bass), and "Music" (high bass, but not that different from "Movie" that I can tell). I would like the ability to make it just a little "brighter" (higher treble) but "News" work quite well for me. My teenage daughter loves the punchy bass of the "Movie" and "Music" modes. The unit comes with a simple wall mount kit which works well and is relatively easy to install. Having said that, the wires all come straight out of the back of the sound bar, and the wall mount kit is a tiny bit too short if you intend to use HDMI ARC - the HDMI cable is both pushed fairly hard against the wall and under a little more bending strain than I would like. I may add a 1/2" shim between the wall mounts and the wall to relieve this pressure, or see if I can find a 90 degree HDMI cable. It feels like they added HDMI ARC and never really tested it with the wall mount kit.All in all, a very good value for money. The sound fills our small living room quite nicely and the integration with HDMI ARC is really nice - I am amazed to find a unit with HDMI ARC and a wireless sub anywhere near this price point.4***Beware of the Remote Control***Hello. This device IS of GOOD sound quality for the price. Sleek and Great Room Bedroom Presence without being "over-the-top". Sadly the remote control is flimsy in design. The remote control LITERALLY STOP WORKING after FIVE button presses.Press 1: Power OnPress 2: Optical Input (Best/Smart Choice)Press 3: Raise Volume 3xAfter that the remote stop working. After battery changes and voltage check of supplied battery no response. This device does Not have On Unit Controls. That said device is USELESS without the remote. Toshiba is a proven product. Because of that I'm holding this company to a higher standard. I'm actively looking for a more robust replacement remote.Total Time During Use: 5 MINUTESIf there's input on finding a better replacement please post.Thank You!2Has HDMI ARC and sounds goodIt sounds pretty good. My only comparison is the 50" TV speakers and a Samsung 300 watt 2.1 soundbar. Compared to the TV speakers this is very nice and adds much bass. It provides good sound for voice but also sounds good for music videos up to a fairly loud volume (but is no replacement for large sub displacement). Compared to the other soundbar with 5 times more power and double size woofer - this one needs to be at level 67 to be about the same loudness as that one at 37 (normal tv listening is around 45/15). But otherwise sounds pretty much as good at that volume. I'd say this Toshiba system is good for up to a 12 x 12 room, you might want more power in a primary living room system though. This sounds about equal to a Charge 4 bluetooth speaker maybe. The Charge 4 puts out amazing sound for its size so that's not a bad thing in this price range really.Best Connection to your TV: HDMI ARC. This is the best feature of this speaker system and makes it a good value because of it. When connected this way you can use your tv remote to control the soundbar on/off and volume. Requires your TV have an HDMI ARC port - look for writing next to one hdmi plug on your TV - it will say HDMI ARC if it has it. It could be any one of them. You have to plug it into that port and also go into the menu of your TV and enable that feature. It may be called something else in the menu text and in the manual, like with my Insignia TV its called something else (I don't remember what but it was not obvious to me without an online search).Optical Connection: Second Best. I think you have to use the remote that came with the soundbar to control the on/off and volume if you use this connection method. Personally, having to use multiple remotes is not something I want at all.Pros: Sounds pretty good for its size. Works nice with HDMI ARC. It does have on/off, volume and input selector buttons on it you can use if you have to. No other functions on it though.Cons: my other soundbar, at double the price, has a gain and other fine tune controls, this does not. You can't even adjust bass and treble - only 3 automatic modes based on input source or manually changed via its remote only. It sounds pretty good equalized as-is though. Another con is you have to use the remote only to pair bluetooth devices - if no remote, then no pairing. I have not used the remote at all since I am only using the hdmi arc feature. It is one of those very thin, credit card sized remotes that is probably very delicate, btw. One final con which is more like an attitude adjustment, if you have higher powered sound bars - consider level 25 to be zero and you go up from there. So if your 200 or 300 watt soundbar is usually set around level 15 for normal listening then you will set this one to level 45. And so on. Otherwise you might have this set to say 15 or 20 and you would say this soundbar is defective and puts out no sound. Well, you just have to turn it up much higher before any sound is loud enough to hear. I have used this up to level 68 for listening to music videos in 10 x 12 room. Here's a weird thing that happened with my HDMI ARC connection. When I changed the default speaker on my Dell laptop to its own speaker (to turn it back on after having the sound go through the HDMI out), it shut off the HDMI ARC in my Insignia TV's menu and I had to go back in and enable it again before the soundbar would work again. Not an issue with this Toshiba system but if your speaker suddenly stops working one day - check your TV menu to see if it got changed somehow before you assume its the speaker system gone bad.4See what audio output are on your TVCould not get cable remote to program to bar.Sound is good, a lot better than what we got from the TV alone. Optical cable would be the best hookup but cable was not included, I found the head phone cable included to woke thew best provided your TV has a headphone output.good purchase for the price would have liked more instruction and better readout of remote.3Waivered between 5 Stars and 4 Stars...PROs: It is exactly what I expected...a nice little unit to add extra bass and depth and oomph to the sound of the 49" Toshiba TV in our bedroom, especially when I view concerts or pedal my exercise bike to music videos and such. Very happy with it's appearance and the sound quality.CONs: I failed to heed another reviewer's advice to USE THE DIGITAL OPTICAL CABLE to connect it to your TV. It is not included with the soundbar, and I didn't purchase one initially. I figured pairing a Toshiba soundbar with a Toshiba TV would be no big deal....certainly could be done with the HDMI cable I already had on hand....WRONG...so I had to wait a few days to enjoy the soundbar until the Digital Optical Cable arrived. Once it arrived, the connection was immediate, and it sounds great. While I was waiting for the proper cable to arrive, I tried every way I could to make it work. At one point I consulted the Toshiba Technical Support website, entered the model number for the soundbar, and was unable to obtain any information...got a message to the effect that this model number does not exist....on the Toshiba website..... The model number was also a problem when trying to program my DirecTV remote control to control the soundbar, so that I wouldn't need to use the puny little remote that came with it. (DirecTV Customers should keep reading)And very little in the way of instructions came with it.So, bottom line (unless you're a DirecTV customer)....nice unit...great sound....save yourself some time and effort and purchase the Digital Optical Cable when you order your soundbar....few instructions provided....puny little remote control about the size of a credit card...Toshiba online tech support doesn't recognize its on product! lolRe programming your DirecTV remote....this was just my experience, with the particular DirecTV receiver I've had for probably 5 years or more. Try as I might, repeating the steps to Program Remote over and over and over, I could not get it to control the Soundbar. I called DirecTV three times. The first consultant was positive it would work, but we somehow got disconnected as she was walking me through the process I had already repeated too many times to mention. The next guy told me flat out that my DirecTV remote could NOT control both my TV and my soundbar, which I appreciated hearing after all my failed attempts, saving me additional time and frustration.Yet, I simply couldn't believe it was impossible, so I eventually ended up calling a 3rd time. Pamela patiently hung in there with me as I attempted yet again to program the remote to control the soundbar....at least 5 attempts at the just "aiming and waiting for the screen to go black and come back on" process...before it then took me into the "hold Mute and Select" method, where you enter a Code....none of the 3 codes provided worked....ultimately telling me that the receiver did not recognize the soundbar model (much the same as Toshiba didn't recognize it...lol) At that point, Pamela said it was simply the remote control that I had, and that she was sending me one that WILL work...for free. It arrived today....and it doesn't work with the soundbar either. But it's always nice to have an extra DirecTV remote, for free! lolI don't need the enhanced sound provided by the soundbar for routine viewing. I'll simply turn it on when watching a good movie or viewing a concert. It would just be nice to have it turn on and off automatically along with the TV, with one remote control. There might be those among you who are waaaay more tech savvy than I, who can tinker with the Advanced DirecTV Remote Control settings....I did wonder about "volume lock", but thought it best to quit while I was ahead!4
