Customer Reviews

Everyone Should Have One!Although I'm on the don't-call list, I still get hammered with junk phone calls, several each day. I got a Panasonic answerwing machine with a phone blocker, but it didn't help much. The block list was only 25, and the phone still rang, though only once. I got this product and hooked it up to the answering machine. Now, I can block virtually limitless calls, and the phone merely chirps when a blocked caller rings.Very easy to use: Plug it in, and set up the date and time. It starts working immediately. When an unwanted call comes, push the left arrow, and then the Blacklist button. They'll never bother you again. 5Works for me!Based on my personal experience, the negative opinions on this product are shear NONSENSE!!!!!First of all.....the requirement is that you need the Caller ID service to be activated from your phone company. It will NOT work without this Caller ID service activated.Secondly.....the battery compartment is NOT to be used....per the instructions. My old Caller ID device uses batteries which is a waste of money. This unit does not use batteries which is a savings. The unit gets its power from the phone line and doesn't require batteries.Third....the unit is basically a Caller ID device that allows you to flag phone numbers for a Black List.Like a Caller ID unit, it displays date, time, day and other data. When you have a number that you don't want calling you again, you simply push the Black List button and it's done. The Good: It works, period! The bad: By the time it compares your Black List against your Caller ID number.... your phone rings once (in my case) and it cuts them off!!!!If the phone didn't ring at all, I would have given it 5 stars. Thanks for peace of mind from unwanted phone calls at a resonable price.UPDATE 9/27/12:Using an old GE Caller ID stand-a-lone module, I successfully passed thru the Caller ID of an incoming call to 2 different cordless phones. I am unable to do this with the Call Blocker module.I then set up the GE unit to pass thru to the Call Blocker unit with success, BUT.....the Call Block would NOT pass thru the Caller ID info of the incoming call to neither of my cordless phone systems.Based on my 2 different cordless phone systems.....this Call Blocker can not pass thru Caller ID incoming info to the Caller ID screens on cordless phones. If you're having any luck with pass thru on cordless, please let me know how and what cordless phone system you're using.Aside from that, I'm willing to live with the one ring before cutoff by splitting the line to the phone and the Call Blocker separately.UPDATE 10/19/12:I'm now running parallel cordless phone systems. One from the Call Blocker with the ringer ON and the other phones from the wall outlet with the ringers OFF...except for one phone. If the call is blocked, you won't here any rings from the phone connected to the Call Blocker and you'll only hear one ring from a distant parallel phone in an other room (bedroom) connected from the wall. If the call is not blocked, you'll hear the phone ring from the Call Blocker phone('s) and your distant phone. On the other cordless phone from the wall outlet (and your satellite phones connected to this phone), you'll see the Caller ID info displayed (where it is not displayed on the phone connected to the Call Blocker). The bottom line: You'll hear the rings from one phone system (Call Blocker pass thru) but you'll see the Caller ID info on another phone system connected to the wall outlet. No sense paying for Caller ID if you're not using it as it was intended.Works for me and gives peace of mind from wrong number telemarketers. If you have a cordless phone where the Caller ID info is passed thru the Call Blocker unit to the phone, let me know the brand.Thanks. 4Works fine but could be betterThis device works fine at blocking unwanted numbers. It has a couple of limitations that I was not aware of at the time of purchase and only found out after using the device.1) The picture shows black numbers against a backlit blue background. This is not true. The device has no backlighting. It's just a simple LCD screen like old calculators. You can adjust the contrast of the display but that's about it. THERE IS NO BACKLIGHTING!2) It displays caller ID numbers only, not the caller's name. So you still have to rely on your telephone's caller ID to get the caller's name associated with the number. But once the number is blocked, you won't see the caller ID on your phone anymore so you'll have no idea who the caller is.There's also a battery compartment that is no used. I wonder if the original device used the batteries for backlit screen function.I really just wish the phones that have call blocking can block more than 20 or 30 numbers, then I won't have to rely on a separate device. 4Unit does NOT work with DSL internet on phone lineThe unit worked for a few days. Now, the phone connected to it does not work (no dial tone and only hear clicking sounds) so cannot make or receive calls. The LCD also flickers on/off when trying to use phone connected to unit. I verified that unit is broken by connecting wall phone cord directly to phone without Call Blocker and phone worked again. Returning to HQtelecom for refund.3/23/2013 Update: HQtelecom was great by providing pre-paid return label. Bought 2nd unit from Game Treasury which had same problem. From my investigation, I concluded that this unit does not work with DSL internet on the same phone line because it does works on my neighbors phone who does not have DSL internet but does have phone through cable company. The description should state this fact that it does NOT work with DSL. Had I known this, I would never have bought it. I returned 2nd unit to Game Treasury but had to pay for return shipping but they credited me $6 additioinal which I'm happy about.I ended up buying Digitone Call Blocker which costs $100 but is well (solid) made with many nice features such as blocking an entire area code or area+prefix, works with DSL internet on phone line. The only drawback in addition to price is that it can only hold 80 blocked numbers. 1It blocks callsI was hesitant to purchase this product based on other reviews. Not sure if they had older models or what but I have none of the problems they experienced. I have a Panasonic caller ID cordless phone base station with answering machine and 4 remote cordless phones; our phone service is through Comcast (cable, but phone is hooked up to the cable modem with traditional phone line). Instructions are not great as others have mentioned, but this thing is very easy to operate without the instructions, and all the buttons are labeled so that the instructions are not necessary. 4 ways to block a call: 1) when the call in incoming press BLACKLIST (SAVE...SUCCEEDED will appear on the screen) 2) at the end of the day if you have received calls "NEW" will be flashing up in the left corner. Scroll through the list using the up/down scroll arrow buttons lower right. At each number you dont recognize, press BLACKLIST. 3)as another reviewer mentioned, you can call a number, hang up as soon as it rings, then press BLACKLIST (press the OUT button if the number is no longer on the screen and scroll if you have called more that one number). 4) This is the sweetest option since the unit is attached to my base station in a second floor office: if you are in another room at a remote phone and you can not get to the T-lock unit on the second floor in time, answer the phone, press *, and hang up within 3 seconds. The number is blocked. I tried it a couple times with my own cell phone to make sure it works. By the way, caller ID still shows up on all the remote phones. Some have complained about removing a number from the list... I do not understand this. Press BLACKLIST, scroll until you find the number, press REMOVE, and the screen says "del--" and the number is removed. To return to the main screen press SET, or it will return to the main screen after 10 seconds on its own. There really are no other insructions needed other than these (you have to set the date/time, etc but if you have ever done that on an electronic device its fairly intuitive). This unit also suppresses the first ring! Again, maybe the other reviews were of an older model, but this one does not allow the phone to ring at all if it is a blacklisted number. No need to turn some phones off, as other reviewers have mentioned, to cut down on the annoyance factor.I called my cable company to block calls that have no number provided due to the caller blocking their ID. It seems most phone companies will do this.We were getting phone calls all hours of every day despite being on the national no call list. The no call list seemed to work up until about 2 years ago, then the phone calls started creeping back in. I checked to make sure we were still on it and we are. We started answering the calls to tell them not to call back, but a lot of them are automated calls. I tried using the telephone company to block call, but they only allow 15 numbers, and most of the companies that call have multiple numbers. I used up all 15 numbers with just 2 days worth of phone calls. If you are having these problems, this unit solves them!Update 2/20/13: I went back and read all the one star reviews for this product since this is one of the best purchases I have made ever - interesting that they all sound like they were written by the same person, and seemed to be written soon after a good rating was given. This is only the fourth review I have every bothered to write, and I have been purchasing my home and business items on Amazon for 10 yrs.Update 3/28/13: We have gone from multiple sales calls per day to almost none. Still get a few calls per week with the caller ID listing the number as --0-- that ring through... usually 3 rings then they are cut off by the call blocker. Not sure why the callblocker or phone company are unable to block these. Also, the caller ID does not always show up on the remote phone units. That makes it hard to block calls using the * button from the remote unit - not sure if it is friends/family calling. My routine now is to check the call blocker every few days for any unknown calls and blacklist them 5lack of informationI think this device should get a 5 star rating because the device works really well on my phone. The problem is with the instruction booklet. The way to delete blocked numbers leaves alot to be desired. If you go to the list of numbers and hit remove it only takes the number out of the display. The number stays in the memory and will get blocked the next time that number calls. If you go to the blacklist button and it brings the numbers up you can scroll to the number and hit remove and del- save will be displayed, now the number is removed from the blacklist.I hope this may help someone who may experiance the same issue. Thanks to another amazon user for helping figure this out. There is a web site with somewhat better instruction and faqs.It [...].Hope this is helpful. 3Not as describedDon't waste your time with this. It does block calls, at the expense of removing the ability to see who is calling on your handsets. The caller ID display will just show "INCOMING CALL" on your handset if you have cordless handsets (and most people do) so in order to be able to "block" a number, every time your phone rings, you MUST go to this unit (And when your phone rings, you could be in a different room or across the house and have to run all the way to the unit to see who is calling!) and view the number and then decide to press the BLOCK button. If it didn't disable the caller ID display on the handset, I'd have kept this rather than return it. At least you would have the ability to look on the handset and if it is a number you know, you just answer the phone. I have returned this unit and I instead have purchased a new Panasonic cordless phone with call block built into the phone, so you can block calls right from the handset and always see who is calling. Also this unit was showing a blue backlit screen in the photos when I bought it on Amazon, I see now they have edited the photo, because it does NOT light up, and what was also odd is that is has a compartment for batteries, including a removable cover, but there are no electrical contacts in there, so putting batteries inside will do absolutely nothing. (!) There is NO metal contacts for the batteries, just an empty plastic compartment. Total waste of time. Look for different options. The all-in-one phone with built-in call blocker was not much more than this unit was. 2works well once you get it set upAs everyone else has said, the instructions that come with it are not detailed enough to use. I went online and found detailed instructions from the website of the manufacturer. I have since been in touch with the seller, and forwarded the detailed instructions on to them. (They just sell the product, and had no idea the instructions in the box were so poor)If you contact the seller he will provide you with better instructions. First thing you must know is that you need a CORDED phone to do some of the set up. If not, then you are supposed to be able to block a number after it comes in, but if you want to block any numbers before hand, you need a corded phone so you can use it's keypad.Once you get it set up to works great. When a blocked number calls, there is one ring and then nothing. You can scroll through numbers when you arrive home and see who called, and block a number from that list if you wish. No names appear on the box, and the numbers all run together (2234567786)so you have to get used to that. 4First Ring SuppressionThis unit has first ring suppression which is absolutely essential for a good call blocking device. The caller ID trails the first ring, so the first ring MUST be suppressed. I used this device on my wireless base station and turned the ringers off on all WIRED wall phones in the house, so I only hear pass-through callers. This device is pricey but it is the low end of the market price-wise for the functionality it has. Cheaper blockers have even less USER control over numbers received. Also, before a number can be blocked, it has to call first - there is no way of entering the number beforehand. I suppose this is as expected for a device that has no networking. I couldn't find similarly priced devices with this added functionality anyway, and those that do are much more expensive and designed for multi-phone-number office control. As a residential unit, this device is a lifesaver. I don't know what this device does on an anonymous call because I block all anon calls through the provider. My provider is VONAGE. 5Helped bring a little peace to my parents' homeI've been using this for about two years now, and while it is hard to operate and it looks really cheap, it works. And that is all I ask of it.For some reason the family home is absolutely inundated with telemarketers trying to sell my parents barely-legal business opportunities, home improvements, credit card insurance, and who knows what else. There has been no way to stop it, even by signing up for the Do Not Call registry, and my parents have a strange resistance to changing the phone number. I'm at their house almost every day to help out, and the constant ringing is maddening. Since I got them this, we've blocked several hundred numbers. New ones always get through, but blocking requires just a touch of a button. I review their calls through this once every few weeks and block the numbers I wasn't around to block the first time. The phone does ring once before this recognizes the caller and stops it, but one ring is fine compared to what we were experiencing before. From what I understand, all blockers of this sort let one ring through. The programming on this thing is pretty much the opposite of intuitive. I have to refer to the instructions for everything, and it takes a lot of concentrating. It was a disaster the time I accidentally blocked my grandmother, and it took me almost an hour to get her calls to come through again. But, I haven't found a better solution than this. It's definitely a rebranded something or other - there's a battery slot and it doesn't take any batteries - but it's cheap, pretty easy to set and forget, and it works flawlessly. Until my parents finally get rid of their land line, this helps prevent me from going insane when I visit them during telemarketing hours. 5
