Customer Reviews

Still working. . . I have purchased a few hand crank lights over the years and this is the only one that still works. The LED's aren't super bright but good enough to get you by when camping, I wouldn't trust it to signal traffic or anything. I have been keeping mine in my backpack which sometimes gets left in the car so it has been exposed to temperature extremes on both ends. It has been exposed to water but never fully submerged. I am debating getting these as stocking stuffers for family. I believe everyone should have and emergency backup flashlight as well as candles. 5Great light I have several of these lights and I have given them as gifts to family/friends. I own a zillion flashlights but I use these as backups and short-term use lights. I keep one in each vehicle, one in my bedside table, one in the kitchen and one in the barn.Yesterday, June 19, 2017, the Memphis/Bartlett area had a power outage that lasted over 12 hours. This light worked great. One minute of cranking and I had more than enough light for most activities (going to the kitchen, the bathroom, etc.) without the need to use battery operated lights. The solar charging on all my lights recharges the batteries well (one doesn't charge as well as the others). Solar charging is best. It gives a stronger light for a fairly long period of time. I regularly solar charge all my lights once every couple of months. I recharge the one in my bedroom at least once a week because I use it frequently. Solar charging really cuts down on the need for cranking.Does one minute of cranking give an hour of light? On LOW, that one minute of cranking produced about five minutes of consistent quality light. By fifteen minutes, the LEDs were still active but the amount of light had severely deteriorated. However, there was sufficient light for me to read and maneuver around the house in total darkness. This weak, lingering light was maintained for hours. So, on LOW, expect about ten minutes of decent light from one minute of cranking. What I like best about this light? It always works, no matter what. 5Not too shabby...love the redundant power sources and quality for the price. Nice flashlight without the worry of batteries going dead. The Solar charging seems to work well, although there's no indication that the unit is actually charging like some other similar products have. Having the hand crank provides a secondary method of charging the flashlight which I love. The unit is made of plastic, but actually has a high quality feel to it. This is one of the rare instances where an instruction sheet is actually included. You gotta love their description of the "Working Principle: This product adopts the principle of cranking for power by three phase alternator...". Wow! 3-phase is massive...although it's the "principle" that counts. Personally, I was kind of disappointed by the lack of brightness, but that's a trade-off with battery power and LED quality. The flashlight comes in a paperboard box making it easy to remove and is wrapped in a bubble wrap pouch. The instructions indicate it has an 80mAH/3.6V Ni-MH chargeable battery, so I assume it's a coin cell since many low-end solar AA rechargeable batteries are 900mAH @ 1.2V.. Although I haven't tried, it looks like the unit could be disassembled by removing a few screws...so replacing the battery may be doable. The switch goes between 4 modes: 1) Off, 2) 1 LED On, 3) 3 LEDs On, 4) Blinking LED. I've tried to include some pictures of the unit I received including the instruction sheet. And by the way...Disclaimer - I did NOT...I repeat...NOT...receive this item for my honest and unbiased review. All opinions are my own based on personal experience. I really did pay US dollars for my unit at cost advertised on Amazon. 4Handy little gadget! Ok.. this hand crank/solar flashlight has a great light whether partially or fully charged. It only needs a few minutes of cranking to be fully charged. It rained here the first 2 days I had it, so it went into the truck cranked, but without being solar tested. I will say that there is a clear anti scratch sticker on the solar panel that needs to be peeled off before solar charging. It is very lightweight, but seems to be built quite well. The cranking is serious business though. It is not just a matter of whipping that crank around for a couple of minutes. There is definitely some resistance there.. but not so much that it cannot be done without embarrassment or pain About like fighting a good size Walleye.. If it were easier.. you would have to crank longer.. just remember that.It does need to be cranked once a month whether used or not, just to keep whatever battery system it has in it healthy. Yes, I am technologically challenged. I just set a monthly reminder on my phone to crank it. Great piece of mind for reasonable price that could be backpacked, tossed in a drawer or vehicle for when you need a flashlight and don t want to worry about batteries or the rain getting the flashlight wet. 5Good product, would buy again Summary: solid construction, charges properly via sunlight, the crank works well, and the light is adequately bright for the uses for which it is designed.I've read a few other reviews that have complained about the crank being hard to turn. I don't think of it as difficult, but as solid. It does not have a cheap feel to it and I appreciate that. You can tell it is doing something when you are cranking it.The different options for brighter or dimmer are blinking work fine. It should be noted that the blank is not literally SOS, it just makes the light blink. Not a big deal. This next item isn't really a complaint, but an observation: I am somewhat baffled by some of the design elements. The light is constructed as a kind of oval cylinder, with strange boxy, protruding edges which don't appear to serve any functional purpose. All of this gives it a rather unnatural feel in my hand. I don't have a serious problem with this because I think of this as an emergency light. It's not the first thing I'm going to grab for an actual household maintenance job. I'm not likely going to bring it camping as the main flashlight I'm using to navigate the woods at night. That said, it is bright enough to do either of those things. 5IMPORTANT: COLOR OF LIGHT HAS A BLUISH ACCENT Light is not BRIGHT WHITE but with a tinge of purplish/bluish color.I'm a fan however, the light is MINIMAL even with all the three led bulbs are on. Acceptable for emergency preparedness, spare/extra flashlight at home/car and no need to ever replace the batteries anymore.Solid product with above average quality but I think it can be a lot better. My Material/Quality rate is 7.8/10.In my opinion, size is okay but not handy enough to be carried in your pockets. About the same length and about three times as thick compared to an Iphone 7.I tested the flashlight and about a minute of cranking gives you about an hour of light. The solar capability is a good addition but I think it is unnecessary if the cranking is more efficient. 4Great flashlight for car, boat and RV Love this flashlight. Whenever I go to use a flashlight it kills me when the batteries are dead. This solves that issue so I can keep a flashlight in the car, boat or RV and not worry about dead or corroded batteries. It has two charging methods, solar and hand crank. The hand crank is solid. At first it is a little tight to turn but over time it loosened up.It has 3 levels, 1 beam, 3 beams and blinking. I use the 1 beam and have used this in a small tent-type space. I left it on overnight. I woke up about 6 hours in and it was dim at that point, so I hand cranked it a minute and left it on. In the AM it was barely lit but still trying. Hand cranking is actually pretty easy. I am gentle with it so it will last.I rarely have to crank it since I tend to leave it out where it gets direct light (charging I presume by solar - think of it like a trickle charge). I do give it a crank when I think about it to help keep the battery topped up. But every time I grab it, it works. I think if you left it in a glove box where it could not get light, you would need to use the crank. But hey, love that you have that option. I leave it where it gets light.Pretty solidly built. Perfect size fits in your hand. I liked this so much I now have 3 of this type of flashlight. These would be good for older kids (the crank would break if smaller kids did not treat it gently). Never worry about batteries again!! Wish we had these when I was a kid camping. My Dad used to always tell us to turn off the light as we were wasting batteries. Ha ha 5very good flashlight Difficult to wind up. The handle is stiff and the way it is made, when I wind it with one hand, the handle bumps my fingers on the other hand that is holding the light while I wind it. Has 3 settings. One is supposed to be brighter than the other, but not much and the 3rd setting is a flshing light. Goes on and off about every second. Don't know what use that has. It just requires I push the button one more time to turn it off, because you have to go through all 3 settings to turn it off. Otherwise I like it. I keep it next to my pillow so when I get up in the night I can find my way around. It is plenty of light for this use and not too bright. It fits in my hand nicely. The power button pushes easily. I have used the solar charging function and it seems to work really well. 4Love these! I was looking for something in front of Hurricane Florence that would be sustainable for a week if needed. This wasn't my first "hurricane rodeo" and when everything is shut down, there ARE no "I'll just go grab some batteries" option. The flashlight is simple to operate, works with a few spins of the wrist. This is NOT going to compete with those "survival, spots jets at 20K feet" type flashlights, but it's sure sufficient for finding your way down a dark hallway or getting into a closet to root around for something in complete darkness (and we DID get to test out those features LOL). Bought two - may buy more in teh future! 5Pretty good for a kinetic flashlight. It is exactly what you think it is, we all know how kinetic flashlights work. The nice thing about this one is that there is a small solar panel on it as well. We leave it in a window sill so it just collects light all the time. It loses a star for brightness. Even fully charged it just isn't very bright. I will say it is a nice sized beam compared to other kinetic flashlights but as all of them suffer from the issue of lumens. Great for emergency flashlight though that you know you will never have to change the batteries in to use. 4
