Customer Reviews

Piece of Junk What a piece of junk. Purchased this lamp as a gift for my brother for Christmas. It was very imbarasing when the unit fell apart upon opening. once put back together it still did not light up. Used a multimeter to see if the batteries were good, and they were. turns out the leads from the battery container didn't function. Not that it would have mattered anyway. upon inspection, I noticed the sodering on the electrical board was sloppy, and probably wouldn't have worked anyway. Very Imbarrasing. Thanks for nothing... 1Didn't expect much; got less It's a cheap piece of plastic junk. With no instructions and sloppy contacts inside the battery compartment, I had trouble putting it together with the batteries and getting it to work the first time, and once I succeeded, it's still far too easy for the battery door to unscrew a quarter-turn and pop off turning the light out when I'm just trying to aim the light or turn it on or off. No I'm not one of those guys who posts a negative review because he ran over it with a car after a year of hard use and is astounded that it no longer works. Mine still works, but it's a good bet that it won't for long. The adjustable elastic band is surprisingly comfortable and effective; they got that part right. It's the junky light body that's the problem.I didn't expect much at this price. I got even less. It has that 99 cent flea market knockoff / carnival game prize feel. I'd return it for a refund but it isn't worth the time and postage to do that. Save your money on this and put it towards a better-made and more expensive one.EDIT in 2013: I replaced this thing with an inexpensive Petzl headlamp, and that one's given flawless service. Sure, it's Apples vs Oranges on price, because even the inexpensive Petzls start at thirty-five bucks, but sometimes the no-name buy like this can be a better value. This isn't one of those times. The Petzl's a better value even though it's several times as expensive as this one. When it comes to headlamps, you get what you pay for. 1Did Not Cost Much and Works Great I have several headlamps, from spendy Petzl ultra lights to basic Eveready 5 dollar specials that just basically cover a need. I bought this little guy for around the house - so I don't have to dig in my climbing gear and put hours on my precious headlamp batteries used for climbing, and I wanted to upgrade to LED lamps. This headlamp works great. It has 3 brightness settings and a flash setting and I've worn it out in the rain rakeing leaves in the dark, working on the car, digging around in dark closets and in the dusty attic. It's a little heavy, but not that bad and considering how tough it is and how much light it actually puts out, that is a small complaint. The elastic holds it on my head just fine and seems to work even better when pulled on over a watch cap or reversed baseball hat. It sips so little power from it's 3 AAAs that I still have yet to change batteries for all the use I've given it. At first glance the plastic seems cheaply molded so look your new head lamp over carefully for flash from molding and to be sure you understand how the battery holder works. Once you're familiar I'm pretty sure you'll be pleased however. I've knocked this thing off my head and kicked it across the tile floor, stepped on it in the garden, and dropped into the engine compartment of my car and (with a little wipe off) it still looks like new. This gadget is well worth the money. 4poor quality control I have been purchasing products from amazon in the past 6 years, this is by far the worst that I ever purchased.I wished I had open this package earlier. As soon as we cut off the plastic packing, one part fell off and we thought it was normal because it is the opposite site from battery placement. after we place the battery, there is no way we can put it back. it was horrible designed and quality. However, it has past 30 days from purchase date and now we have to throw it away because there is no way this will work. If I can give it negative point. I will not hesitant. 1great long lasting sometimes i like to read in the dark. i don't like those book lights they seem to move when the book moves. LOL. I know hold my book steady but really, you can't hold the book steady as you read with the lamp shining on the wrong part of the book.i wear this on my head and its easy to get up and walk around the house...though i get worried that if someone sees me walking through the house by the neighbors they might think a robbery is occurring and they'll call the police. I'd rather have neighbors looking out for me and my house than saying...nevermind.this is fun. for camping. anything you might do in the dark. 5Head gear - water-resistant & hands free This is a little bulkier than others, added it to the "emergency" inventory because it states that "it is water-resistant" I thought that important if outdoor use is needed. This is one of several head lamp style emergency lighting items I have acquired, however, they are for inside use in stairwells & garage, since suffering thur several storms that caused extended blackouts a outside water resistant version seemed appropriate..It is very bright and for the price not bad. Hopefully I will not have to fully experience conditions that will test that "water-resistant" claim past a bad rain storm...so far so good. 4It works Its a head lamp, it works. It has different settings low, medium, high and strobe. Only problem is, as a guy with medium length straight hair (like Tom Brady) the strap doesn't stay on. I put it on my head and my hair just curls up below it, bringing the strap with it and plop, it fell off my head. Good thing I got this headlamp for hunting because I'm always going to be wearing so sort of hat, thus preventing it from falling off.The only suggestion I'd have would be for it to have a rubber backing, but that would hurt because it'd pull your hair all the time. Maybe a chin strap? 4definitely get what you pay for If I had a choice, I wouldn't give it any stars but the only saving grace is that it also came with a led flashlight in a combo pack. Flashlight is also a cheap piece however it works fine. The headlamp is like what many of the other reviewers have said, "it's a cheap piece of plastic". Took a lot tinkering to get it to work half the time. The plastic behind light piece has already broken and it hasn't even been worn yet. And as one other reviewer stated, it smells (hard to describe). For the cost, it's going to cost me more time and money to have it sent back. So I guess I'll just use the flashlight. 1Generic 7-LED Not 9-LED Gray Headlamp I originally ordered this headlamp to use while working on my vehicle at night as it provides more mobility than a shop work-light. I was not disappointed. It rivals that of brand name 2-led work-light (see customer images). As for water-resistant, I'm not looking forward to test that capability, but I will update this review if it ever comes to that. There's multiple sellers of this same generic 9-led gray headlamp here on Amazon, so I imagine this review applies to them too. I will definitely be ordering more of these generic 9-led gray headlamps to keep in the house, toolbox, and car emergency kit.Edit: I just realized, the headlamp by Thinktank has 7-led's, not 9-led's as the product title claims. I'll be updating seller feedback to reflect this falsehood. 3Stinky We purchased two of these just for fun. They arrived quickly and are as described, mostly.........except they have the most horrendous smell. We have had them out side for three days now to air out, and had to put the packaging in the outside garbage can immediately. We brought them inside today to see if the smell has dissipated. It has to a degree but I still can not have them indoors without wanting to gag on the smell. The smell seems to be from the straps. No batteries were included, as stated. Didn't think that was a big deal knowing we got em on the cheep. We placed batteries in them and tried the light and it does work as is say it does, bright and with several settings.Overall for the price, you get your money's worth. I am doubtful I will ever be able to wear it for the smell coming off the straps. Overall very disappointed in this purchase, and would return them if it was worth my time and effort to do so, they aren't, so outside they will sit. 2
