Customer Reviews

Worked perfectly for my needs Excellent value. I was able to test my PSU without having to completely dismante it from the case (JUST DISCONNECT EVERYTHING FROM THE POWER SUPPLY). I was worried about possible water damage to my computer, and I didn t want to turn it on and possibly damage the other parts with a faulty PSU. The instructions were clear and the product was easy to use. It put my mind at ease that the PSU was fine and it was safe to turn on the computer to test the other parts. It worked! 5I like this little thing. This is made by Thermaltake who, in my opinion, is no stranger to power supplies and other PC components. The box feels sturdy and comfortable in my hand. The LCD is nice and bright and easy to read. The instructions are well written and easy to understand. To use this thing, you basically:remove AC power from power supplyplug in the main 20 or 24 pin lead from power supply to bottom of testerplug in additional rails to test, such as pci-e (2/4), old fashioned molex, cpu rail (2/4) or sata powerprovide AC power to power supplyhit the button on the tester to power up the power supply and press again to cycle thru the different railsthe LCD is blue if all is well and turns red and beeps if all isn't wellat the end of the tests it turns the power supply back offyou can also hold the button to automatically test each connected rail for 5 secondsI have tested about 4 power supplies so far and found one bad one. The nice thing about the LCD is that it shows you the voltage reading as well as what it should be right next to it. Easy identification of what you are looking at/testing.The only concern I have is that I don't think this particular tester puts the power supply under load. I think this could be an important test. And of course this won't tell you if your power supply is overloaded - you should be able to figure that out on your own. But - it certainly is a nice and easy (and professional looking) way to test a power supply.I would recommend. 5Worth it! Don't go cheap unless you love regret Super easy to use. I love that it has two test modes. You can either let it auto-cycle through all the plugs or manually test each one. Also the failure of a rail will be indicated three ways so that it can't be missed or mistaken. First is the big "F" where the rail voltage should read. Next, the soft blue LED screen goes to red. And finally you get a disturbing audio key. So, if you set it to auto you can do something else. If you hear a beep (after the start beep) you know you have a problem.Construction is nice. Most people said it was sturdy while a few actually thought it was flimsy. I'm in the sturdy category. All in all I think the price point is just right for this tool. I ordered a cheap one a few days ago from Amazon that only had leads for each rail. It was super cheap but highly rated. I plugged it in and the sata "clicked" or popped and then smelled burnt. Great. Almost lit the joint on fire. I immediately ordered this one because I couldn't put any faith into the cheap unit.Added bonus: this times the response in milliseconds; a component to the psu that could be helpful in determining if a psu could become problematic in the near future but is still technically ok at the current time ( at least I was told that a borderline very high timing could be a sign of coming trouble)Here is why it's a 5 Star item:1) Construction2) Ease of use3) Auto and manual testing modes4) Auto shut off for both the unit itself plus it auto shuts off psu when done testing in auto5) Clarity: LCD is very easy to read even when out of arms reach6) Plug design makes sense. VGA are red(like a lot of psus) Plus it fits 8 pin pcie whereas the cheap one only fit the 6pin pcie. ( I know the other two are grounds but with the cheap ones I couldn't test my custom cables because unlike the stick plug, the last two pins can't be split from the plug. So if I just had a faulty custom.cable I would've never diagnosed the problem with the cheap one. That's all folks! I think this was well worth the money and glad I can add it to my sizeable list of pc tools 5Good, not perfect. Pros: Simple and straightforward to operate. No guess work. LCD turns one color for pass, one for fail.Only gripe I have is the cheap plastic housing. Was inserting molex cable (and we all know how cheaply and ill fitting those are), and the moderate amount of force I used popped open the housing. Fortunately it just snapped back into place and did appear to break the connector. You'd think for $30 they could at least put a few screws in to keep this flimsy thing together.Deducted 1 star for the cheapness of build, another for the price not reflecting this. Overall seemed to work and satisfy my concern of a bad PSU. 3Further testing with this device allowed me to determine that the first PSU was actually good, and that the trouble was all due This tool actually allowed me to reject a brand new power supply and get the RMA process done WITHOUT going through the hassle of installing the PSU into a computer. When the replacement PSU unit arrived from the manufacturer, I was able to test it, and install it into the computer.Further testing with this device allowed me to determine that the first PSU was actually good, and that the trouble was all due to a bad cable that had come with that first PSU. This tester has already proven itself worth the money. Highly recommended! 5Fine for Voltage Works fine for telling the voltage of power supplies, the user interface is kind of annoying, and it requires the 24 pin cable to be plugged in, so it can't just tell you whether a single 6 pin or 8 pin connector is working. The connectors are weirdly difficult to plug in, and it only measures voltage. This means that it is only really good for diagnosing voltage problems. If your power supply has any other problem, this won't find it. 3Great and easy to use product. Highly recommended!! I was having a no POST error in an Obsidian 350D tower case with two different motherboards, each with two different processors. I purchased this unit to determine if the power supply was to blame. The power supply turned out to be FULLY operational across all modes. My conclusion is that there is a grounding issue with the tower case and not the motherboards. This unit paid for itself versus having to go to computer tech. Now I have a new tool to utilize!! 5Easy to use and fast! We have to check a lot of PS in our tech business. It's nice to have fast connections and simple to see readouts. The tester works every time we grab it (200+ times last year) and the connections have remained strong (we are careful too).Yes your DMM can do the same thing and any decent tech has one one of them too, but this is reached for every time we need to test a power supply. It's just faster to use and it helps to point out physical connection flaws, that probes may miss. This brand has been around long enough not to risk it's rep on a crappy device. That was worth the few extra I paid, over similar options from "insert-random-dude-in-moms-basement-who-leaner-how-to-import-brand". 5If the screen turns red for any test then the unit is bad. The voltages are all displayed with each test This little device is almost foolproof. It diagnosed my dead power supply in just a few seconds. All you do is connect the 24 pin power supply cable or one of the SATA cables and turn it on. Then toggle through the tests with the test button. If the screen stays blue then no problems. If the screen turns red for any test then the unit is bad. The voltages are all displayed with each test. The only thing that could be improved is the tightness of the SATA cable end. The connection should be easier. 5Good device that works well for its price point For what it is, this device is a 5. Personally I would prefer a larger, sturdier device for more money like $75, but for the $35 they have built a useful device with a great, high visibility display. Maybe someday they make a rugged Premier model.Operation is simple. Plug in the 32-pin connector at bottom. Turn on power supply. Press button on tester. If your 32-pin is good, then you can switch in and out other connectors. When multiple connectors are plugged in, press button to cycle through results. Each result shows the different voltages supplied by the connector. There are 5 ports and support the following connection types:32-pin motherboard main supply8-pin or 6-pin PCI-E (red)molex 4-pin peripheral power supplymolex 4-pin or 8-pin CPU power supplySATAThe SATA connector does not have the little L-shaped key, so you have to look closely to fit it the right way. This device has already proven very useful to me because I have a power supply that testing reveals works perfectly fine except for one connector, so I can now re-use the supply by just ignoring that one bad spare connector. Note that power supplies have a protection circuit that causes the entire power supply to shut down if one connector shorts. So, if you have one bad connector and you have it plugged in, then it will seem as though the entire power supply is bad because it will shut down. However, if you identify that bad connector, then you can just make sure it is not plugged in, and you are good to go.Since I can now re-use my power supply, this device has already saved me $100. 5
