Customer Reviews

Everything Old is New Again This upgrade kit is fantastic. Will it make your old stinger brighter. Yes. Will it be as bright as a Stinger LED. No. Will it make an old flashlight new again. Yes. This upgrade kit is fantastic. My old stinger had been relegated to the junk heap for the last 3 years. I should have thrown it away but due to its amazing craftsmanship I was compelled to keep it. Boy am I glad I did. This upgrade kit makes my stinger relevant again. It will now be my everyday duty flashlight as it was several years ago. If you are on the fence about upgrading please make the jump. This kit is amazing. I wish I could give it 6 stars. 5Upgraded my 15 year old Stinger to LED brightness and longevity! Awesome easy upgrade. I have two of the original STINGER flashlights that I have owned for at least 15 years. I keep one mounted to the side of the console and hard-wired in my pickup. I was totally sold on the STINGERS for years as the best rechargeable flashlights out there. Then STINGER came out with LED lights and at first I was skeptical, but after a few years it was clear that the LED lights were a great upgrade. I couldn't really justify buying two new lights when the old ones worked fine. I will say that I change out the battery packs about every three years as they lose their life, but other than that the original Stingers are great. I was buying another pair of batteries recently and this "upgrade" appeared in my suggested box on Amazon. I figured for $45, why not see if this will retrofit my Stinger and give the brightness and upgrade of what the new LED Stingers have.HOLY COW! Yes, it is amazing how much brighter this little LED lamp retrofit kit is in my original light! The lamp itself, or bulb, on the original plugs in with two contact prongs, so you gently pull the light out and the new LED controller plugs back into the original pin receptacles and voila! I tested the light last night for the first time and it is significantly brighter, throws a beam farther, and last longer than the original incandescent lamp setup. 5Works, that can be said. I decided to give this a try for my old beloved Stinger that s been sitting in a box of old patrol gear doing nothing. Yes, it is instantly obvious that it is brighter than the original xenon bulb in an old Stinger. However, the white light is a little thin like in older LED bulbs as compared to newer C4s, etc. As far as battery life and durability, that remains to be seen. Another disappointment is that it only fits a stinger and my ultra stinger will have to remain in that box of old gear. All in all, I m not sure it s worth $45 when that $ could go towards the purchase of a newer flashlight with better output. That said, it does what it claims. 3Better than a new one Absolutely loved my original stinger. Bought is back in the mid 90's with the Xenon blub was new and it was the best thing on the market. Time and technology though has caught up and passed the platform. However after upgrading to this LED and some newer batteries the light is brand new for a fraction of the cost on anything new but works just as well. On top of that I do not have to removed or change my charging stations in my cars, travel trailer and house. Highly recommend this to anyone who has a non led stinger. Fit and finish we perfect. Do pay attention that this model only fits the stringers with the side mounted off on switch not the ones with the end cap switches. 5Tailcap only does not work. Really bright when it works. This kit does NOT work in a Stinger XT that is tailcap ONLY. The tailcap switch does not control this bulb. Also when you put it on the charger instead of charging the battery it just turns the bulb on. I'm going to buy a second hand Stinger with a switch up top to see if this will work but they need to tell you that tailcap only does not work. 2Excellent upgrade for Polystinger Packaged securely, arrived in three days. Quality LED module is very simple to install and makes a huge difference in light output. The bright white beam cannot be focused like the standard bulb setup, but the intensity of light is worth the tradeoff. The original bulb used to get HOT after a few minutes of use, and this LED mod takes a while longer, but still gets hot. The heat issue may affect the lifespan if used at length. Follow the instructions on the back of the package and you should have no problems with installation. The price can fluctuate from $45 to $55, so if you are considering this, wait for the price to drop to $45. Seems like a lot of money, but I like my Streamlight and will keep it forever. 5Don't hesitate, just get it. Terralux TLE-ST1-EX MiniStar ST/EX LED Upgrade Conversion Kit for Streamlight StingerI put this in each of my Stinger flashlights. Brought them both up to modern specs. Much cheaper than buying a new flashlight. I replaced the old NiCad batteries as well with the new Lithium-whatever units. Turned an outdated flashlight into an awesome flashlight again. Much better battery life now and brighter light output.INSTALLATION - Remember, if you plug it in and your light does not turn on, unplug it and reverse the plug. One of mine was old enough that I had to do this, the other worked by following the regular directions. 5Gave new life to my old stinger. I REALLY didnt want to throw away my old incandescent stinger... but the light out put was no longercutting it anymore... Came across this kit that replaces the incandescent bulb with an LED. This kit is VERY simple to install and works great. Do yourself a favor while you are ordering this kit, as the older stinger this is going in, it would be a great idea to order a new battery for it aswell. Basically giving your old stinger new life! Now dont get me wrong it isnt AS bright as the actual LED stingers... BUT for the cost to upgrade your old stinger VS buying a NEW one.. you CANNOT beat it. I am pleased with this kit. The kit also comes with a rubber anti roll rubber for the lens like the ones from streamlight... It IS removable and really not needed, unless you need to keep it from rolling on you. I would recommend this to anyone looking to update/referb their old school incandescent stinger 5Very bright, but kind of disappointed My 10 year old stinger had weak NiCd batteries and the lens was in rough shape requiring a new head. I bought a new NiMh battery to replace the Ni-Cads, but I remember back when the older Ni-Cad's were new and had their full voltage, bulb life from the factory Xenon bulbs wasn't very good and the Xenon bulbs are kind of pricey. So I bought this LED head to make bulb changes a thing of the past. I'm kind of disappointed with it.The Good: It is very, very bright. Brighter than with the factory Xenons. The battery will run all day, and I'm sure the LED's will last forever. The bad: The head is definitely more cheaply made than the factory Xenon head from Streamlight. It doesn't screw on more than a couple threads. You want to crank it down some more, but there is a big warning on the head not to do that. I did crank mine another half turn to line up the Terralux logo with the top of the flashlight for aesthetic purposes. It didn't feel good doing it, but it seems fine. The factory head screwed on about twice as many turns and it just felt a lot better when screwing it on and off. The Terralux kind of feels like you're crossthreading it on there even though it isn't.Stingers also have an o-ring near the top of the barrel that the head seals against the head making the light waterproof. The Terralux head does extend down past the o-ring seal, but I question whether it is sealing against it. It looks like the diameter is too wide. I accidentally dunked once or twice over the years without issue, but I'm worried it might not survive again with this head. It may still seal perfectly fine with the new head, but I'm suspect and not willing to test it. Hopefully I won't accidentally dunk it again.I also don't like how blue the light is. Being as bright as it is, it kind of just turns everything blue and the lack of contrast can make it hard to "see." This is typical of many if not most LED lights, but the factory Xenon has better coloration, and I also have a Milwaukee M12 LED light bar at work with what they call "TrueView" LEDs and I'm way spoiled with it. Colors and contrast show up much better and makes inspecting things much easier.Lastly, and this is pure aesthetics, but the head also sticks out further than the factory one, seemingly unnecessarily, even without the rubber cap that keeps it from rolling. It kind of gives the light an odd look which is kind of sad as I always liked the look of the Stinger flashlights.All-in-all it works and the brightness make me smile, but I just wish it was as quality as a factory Streamlight head. I'll give it more time, but I may end up just buying a new factory Xenon head reverting back to original. 3Makes a 24 yr old Stinger work like a new Stinger I bought my original standard Stinger (Xenon bulb, side switch) over 24 years ago, which initially was my main flashlight, then was my back up light. It went unused when I got my first LED flashlight (Pelican 7060). I didn't want to get rid of the old Stinger and finally looked for an LED conversion kit.Bought the Terralux upgrade kit and it works great (I've only had the conversion kit for a few hours). For the most part, it is an easy install. Follow the instructions. One hiccup on my Stinger is the instructions say to align the module notch to the alignment screw on the Stinger. The LED light didn't work. Pulled out the LED module and tried the install again. Still didn't work. Read the instructions which said "Note: Some models require installation to be reversed." Pulled out the module and place the module notch opposite of the Stinger alignment screw. LED modules works great.I also have a Stinger XT with the rear button switch. The Terralux LED module works with the Stinger XT. It works with the module notch aligned with the Stinger XT alignment screw.Stated run time on the package says 2.5 hours. For me it's worth the money for the conversion kit. It breathes new life into a 24 year old flashlight. It's brighter than the Pelican 7060 (350 lumens). The old Stinger will go into the gear bag as a back up.The first two photos are of the Stinger with the Terralux head on it. The third photo is the Terralux LED module Stinger compared to the Stinger XT with the Xenon bulb. 5
