Customer Reviews

Streamlight 14032 Sidewinder Military Tactical Flashlight, Coyote A very impressive unit !!!!!! It is compact but by no means inappropriately so and a close examination indicates it is well made and no cheap piece of rubbish. I purchased this item specifically as a back-up light to attach to the front of my recon chest pack and it fits perfectly with the clip fitting through the molle system. I ll add some additional security with some tactical elasticated gear clips. The variable brightness on the unit makes it more than adequate for most uses. The light dims down to a very low level appropriate to read a map but without being visible from any distance. When detached the unit sits surprisingly comfortably in the hand as a hand torch. In answer to some of the criticism of this unit and it low light output (55 lumen) it is a tactical light and it is my experience that many people display far too much unnecessary light in the field even in a non-tactical situation. When in the field I use light in the same manner as I would in any tactical situation and keep it to the minimum necessary for the task and not unnecessarily advertising my presence. I carry a separate high output torch with a strobe function for emergency purposes. I look forward to extensively field testing this item. 5My Favorite flashlight Ordered this after my Headlamp short circuited and I found myself needing a new source of artificial lighting. Began looking around at different Maglights, Gerbers, and Rayovacs. I come across this gem while looking at all the options and remembered how a friend of mine that was in the Marines had such glowing praise for this light. Moment I opened the instructions I understood why many praise it. It's more than bright enough to accomplish what you need it for, and the options work good. I've personally tested the blue light after a nose bleed and can say that it worked better than I thought it would. Red light works great as I was able to have it on at highest setting and still be able to walk down a hall way that passes by several bed rooms without waking anyone up. It has a better battery life than a good portion of tactical lights and can accept regular AA batteries, not to mention that the batter cover on the bottom being tethered to the compartment and the tactile indicators make it quicker to get the light back in action after the current batteries run dry. Accessories are plenty for attaching this light to different places and there is even a diffuser available. If you'd like a good quality light that can properly perform in a large variety of circumstances, survive very severe use and abuse, and still not break the bank you'd do well to pick this light. 5The sidewinder rescue is a hidden jewel. Man I love this flashlight. Great blend of spot and spill with a surprising amount of light from this light. I liked the spacing of the 4 easy to find settings for white, green or blue. Another winner by Streamlight. The rescue version doubles as a latern. 5great flashlight! I love this flashlight and have since bought two more for myself and two for Christmas presents for my nephews .I like that these lights start out on low and move to progressively brighter settings. The raised areas on the outside of the light absolutely helps you feel which way batteries are to be inserted if you have to change them in the dark. The cap is very well designed and seals watertight. The clip is very strong and stays on your belt or molle gear. This is not the brightest flashlight but isn't designed to be a spotlight or to spot objects over long distances. It is awesome for seeing things in your immediate area and battery life is excellent.Update -I've been using these lights for 5 years now and they are still going strong. They have survived being dropped and banged around , the heat of being kept in my vehicle in the summer , the cold and getting wet. I have several of these lights and they all work great !If my review was helpful to you , please take the time to check the "helpful" box below.Thank you ! 5Idea, handy size. clips on molle systems Ideal. easy to use. I use with lithium non-rechargeable batteries to ensure long life and consistent power in cold conditions, Fits tightly and neatly onto MOLLE system backpacks for easy storage, light weight and ideal as an area light when camping in 2-4 man tents. The LEDS are bright and so is main beam (white light). useful security feature to ensure that during storage the infra-red LED is not on. All functions work well although I have no way of testing infra-red feature. Well made and delivered in a reasonable time (UK customer) although first delivery went astray the item was replaced free of charge - 5 stars for service to. 5This is the light I use everyday The flat shape and articulating head is a great design. I can lay it flat or stand it up and point it hands-free where I want. This is nowhere near as bright as my Fenix LD20, but it is the light I carry every day. I find that the brightest setting of the sidewinder is just about the same as the dimmest setting of the LD20. The LD20 is better when I want the brightest light possible, like checking for wild animals in the yard. But the sidewinder is perfect for most things I do with a light, like aiming it hands-free where I am working with tools; reading a book; lighting my way when walking; lighting up a room during a power outage, etc.The advantage of using this light that is "bright enough" instead of "the brightest possible" is that the batteries last about forever. I use light every day, but have only changed the batteries twice in 8 months. Most of the time, is actually handy that it comes on in the dimmest setting. But there are times that I wish I could pre-determine which setting would turn on first, like with the LD20. You have to hold the button about 3 seconds to make cycle to the brightest setting. If coming on bright is more important for you, buy the sportsman version.I have about zero use for the red, blue, and IR LED lights. I might have more use for an extra plain white led instead of IR. The only thing cool about the IR LED is that you can't see it with your eyes, but phone cameras can see it. The phone camera can see that it is on, but not bright enough to illuminate anything.I like the flat shape to keep it in my pocket. And it never rolls away from where I put it. 5Awesome flashlight! Awesome flashlight!!! I already have the sidewinder compact II. The rescue model is an excellent addition to the compact II military. The compact I use as a head lamp at work nights( I do telecom cellular site work for a major carrier and we have a work maintenance window from 11pm to 5am). It gets really abused; dropped of ladder, in my pocket with bolts and screws, rained and snowed on, left in the truck in sub zero weather here in Chicago. Works flawless, the lens surprisingly has no scratches. If you need a light for work or camping I recommend buying the compact first; as it can work as a headlamp and can use cr123a, AA, AAA ( streamlight doesn't advertise AAA but they still work even when shaking the light) manufactured to milspec standard. The diffused on the rescue model provides multidirectional light. Works like a hand flare. If youre looking for functionality and reliability this is your light. 5Turns out I could of bought just one and been satisfied with that instead of two Streamlight Sidewinder 14065 is no different then Streamlight 14069. The picture show's a different web carrier' but the items - one of each was purchased, are exactly the same, including web carrier. The package, was marked as advertised, and one is only a couple dollars more, but if your on a budget - every penny counts. I planed on using one for my "LBE", and one for camping. Turns out I could of bought just one and been satisfied with that instead of two. 3Real military grade hardware These are (still) the best flashlights I've had. Weather, water, a few knocks over the years - no problems. The PC lens is very scratch-resistant (hint) a rubber AR-15 mag cover like the Tapco Intrafuse pops over the lens for Max protection if the light is packed in with tools for example. Small rubber band holds the mag cover in place. Not cheap, but not outrageous price either - for a light that you can really depend upon. BTW: battery life is Amazing! In addition to the two I own I just gave two more as gifts! I choose the military model (IR illuminator) for good reason, but if you will never use the IR then you will probably be happier with this light in the Sportsman model (No IR) 5High build quality, compact Easy to use, tough, and very small. I was initially concerned by the lower 'lumen' rating but as I predicted it doesn't matter. The joint was a part I was concerned would break easily, however in spite of a lot of bending it has been working flawlessly. Some minor points- enabling the 'flashing' mode is not always easy (it requires a double click but sometimes that just turns it off then on). You can't adjust the brightness of the flashing mode (afaik). The major flaw would be the rigidness of the clip which makes it hard to slide onto things, but that might be a plus for some people. It also cannot stand easily on its own so won't function as a lamp. 5
