Customer Reviews

USB to PS/2 Adapter My setup required a USB to PS/2 adapter and I wanted something other than the dongle version of a USB to PS/2 adapter. I stumbled across this adapter, ordered it, tried it, it works great and I'm a happy camper. I was able to use an internal USB pin out and placed the adapter in a spare rear case slot. I like the fact that it alleviates the extra weight that a USB dongle adds to a USB port in addition to the fact that the PS/2 connection to this adapter is more secure. 5Best little device I have found in some time... This item is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I have an old school Northgate mechanical keyboard that I just love. It requires a PS2 driver. Try to find one. I found a software company that charged me $35 just for the driver. Whenever I work on my computer, the PS2 driver gets wasted. I saw this adapter on line and ordered it from Amazon. Plugged it in and worked perfectly. Now my PS2 keyboard works from a USB port. I would give it 10 stars if I could. 5great little gizmo! What a handy little doo-hickey this thing turned out to be. I've got a 5 year old keyboard, which I dearly love, hooked up to my new laptop. There's also a plug for a mouse if you want to hook up a non-USB mouse as well. (The key style on the laptop is not really conducive to doing a lot of typing as I have long fingernails, so it's easier for me to use my old keyboard and not make so many typos).I didn't want to have to buy a new USB keyboard so using this plug has avoided having that extra cost. And when I want to use the keyboard on the desktop again, all I have to do is unplug the USB end of the dongle and plug it into a USB port on the desktop. No problem with the hookup - it works right out of the box. The plug ends are not color-coded (ie: purple=keyboard) but there's a small hard-to-see icon on each plug end showing a mouse or a keyboard. Just for the heck of it, I also tried it out on a mouse and keyboard I still have from one of our really old comps running Windows 98 - again no problem with that mouse or keyboard either.Great way to get use out of legacy peripherals and avoid having lots of old stuff around that can't be used anymore because everything is USB now. I'm really glad I bought this. 5Just What I Needed...... I got this as I have a lot of older KBs and mice that use PS/2 type connections but both my newer systems use USB type connectors and don't have PS/2 type so I couldn't use many of my older KBs with them. This adapter has a Y in it with one side being the KB and other side the mouse. They are labeled by a small raised icon of a keyboard side and a small raised mouse icon on the mouse side. It plugs directly in a standard USB port and gives you both mouse and KB with one adapter. I have a USB mouse but no USB keyboards except the ones that came with both the new computers and I wanted a back up just in case I needed it. Both of the adapters's plugs work fine, but I don't plan on using them for both the mouse and the KB at the same time as I've run into conflicts at times when one USB item or another were getting in each others way. (This as especially true when dealing with joystick and game pads.) What I have checked it out for is using the keyboard with it as this is where I feel I'll need it. It works well for this and I've not run into any thing that caused me a problem to this time, but as I said this was using the PS/2 style KB to USB port side. Overall not a bad adapter to have around! 5There are external cable adapters that do the same job but this is a nice tidy permanent solution for this PC This can connect via internal or external USB. Your system will need to support boot initializing of USB to work (older motherboards don't have this feature, so it cannot be used to replace a broken keyboard port), tho generally if it lacks PS/2 ports this won't be a problem. I'm using it with a Dell that has no PS/2 ports, so I can use an older keyboard. There are external cable adapters that do the same job but this is a nice tidy permanent solution for this PC.The internal pin header is not labeled but match it to the diagram in the instructions. I wasn't sure on this so contacted their tech support -- took a couple tries to get my problem across but their guy was patient and once he understood my question I got the answer right away. If you're still not sure, or your motherboard's USB header is not available or not labeled, use the external USB connector instead (just run a short cable out the back to any available USB port). Thanks to StarTech for their many solutions to these oddball problems. 5Sometimes seems to buffer up keys and lags, cannot recommend. I wanted to continue to use my IBM Model M PS2 Keyboard on my new rig that has no USB Ports. I tried this, since StarTech usually makes good products. I used it with Windows 10 Professional. I am a relatively fast typist, and I noticed a tiny bit of lag while typing. I could live with that, but it would seem to sometimes buffer keystrokes - if I was moving my cursor through a list, sometimes it would just take off and fly and then stop. I didn't have sticky keys or other accessibility features turned on. In the end, I ended up buying a higher end USB mechanical keyboard and everything seems fine now. 1Reliable and trouble free USB to PS2 Keyboard Wedge Scanner adapter This was at least the third one put into use on our cpu upgrades. We have a lot of barcode scanners that are the old ps2 style connectors for the scanner and keyboards, where the scanners are "keyboard wedges", and when we replace the units over the years, the new cpu's have USB keyboards/mice. Just plug the ps2 barcode scanner into this adapter and then to the USB port on the CPU. Keyboard goes directly to another USB port and viola, done, saved a lot of money.I have tried others that were cheaper. They don't work as I understand the cheap adapters don't pass all of the extended ascii character set. Uh-oh. Pay a little more for this use, they just work. 5Perfect as always from StarTech.com Setup was easy - as with ANY adapter or connector, plug it into the USB port and then WAIT while Windows installs the software for it. Once Windows says it's done, then you can connect your device[s] to it. My old IBM click-key kbd from 1993 worked immediately. We have had great success with StarTech.com products within our 25k+ employee corporation and purchase many different products from them often, so I expected this device to work flawlessly which it did. Looking forward to annoying those around me with my noisy keyboard now, hehe. Tactile feedback is the best, IMO. 5IT WORKS!!! I bought a new Dell computer (XPS 8930 Special Edition) running Win10-x64, and my trusty ol' Logic Controls (now Bematech) LK1800M (132-Keys, PS/2 Interface, 2-Track Magnetic Strip Rreader and Fully Programmable 2-level keyboard), which I program with many e-addys, usernames, etc.) keyboard would not work on it because it didn't have a PS/2 port.I have been using this keyboard since March, 2008!I tried many of the active adapters available, such as the Sanoxy, etc., and NONE of them worked properly. So I contacted the Bematech support team, and after trying many things, they sent me a newer and similar keyboard (LK8000) that connects by USB.Well, this did not work properly either! While looking around here at amazon.com, I came upon this gem of an adapter, and decided to give it a try.Once it arrived, I installed it, having to use a male-to-male USB 2.0 cord to plug it into an available USB 2.0 port on the back of the desktop, and LO AND BEHOLD!!...IT WORKS!...FAULTLESSLY!!!Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU, StarTech!! 5Solved my problem I purchased this adapter based on other reviews I had read about it. I just bought a new HP Desktop computer and I hated the keyboard that came with it. I had always used my Omni Key 101 by Northgate Computer Systems. It is the old mechanical style and I just love it but it had the old PS2 connection on it. My adapter arrived today so I hooked up the keyboard and it works !!!!! Love it. The only problem I am having is the connection is a little touchy. If the connection gets moved the keyboard stops working. Atleast I know what to look for. I just wiggle it a little and it starts working again. I am very happy with this product.__UPDATE 5/30/2014.____ The problem I was having with the "touchy connection issue" finally got to me. It was happening more and more as I used it. I finally gave up and bought a new keyboard that came with the USB connection instead of the old PS/2. This adapter did work but it turned out not to be reliable over the long haul. I would no longer give this the 5 stars that I originally did. 5
