Do NOT buy for a MacEver since Mavericks, all of these USB to display devices have become quite the pain to use. Even though it says Startech on the side, the actual display hardware and software is made by DisplayLink and they are having trouble getting their drivers to work properly. Using the latest driver from their website (2.3), only one monitor would work and the mouse was choppy and a bit laggy when moved around the monitor (this is subjective because only 2 out of the 4 people I showed this to noticed it). Edges of windows are squared, transparency doesn't work correctly, and after an hour of use I noticed that the whole thing seems to use some form of JPEG compression, as the more windows and things you put on a monitor, the more compression artifacts you see. Visiting webpages that use lots of color, or animated GIFs really make it standout just how much compression is being used to power these USB displays to the point where it's difficult to read. I should also mention that using Mission Control and many other functions either takes several seconds to respond, or just crashes your user session completely, which kicks you back to the login screen. Very frustrating.I contacted support via the chat window they have on their website and the person I worked with was very helpful. I thought maybe I had just gotten a bad one, but all of these things are known issues and the representative directed me to their newest beta driver. They just released (3/15/15) it (2.4 beta 1) which actually allows you to use two monitors at once and supposedly fixes some some issues, but all the transparency, drawing, crashing, and compression-related problems are still there. From what I can tell, they are working on it, but it will take time.To be clear though, Ethernet, audio, and USB work great, the only issues I have are with the display (which is what I bought it for). None of the Thunderbolt 2 docks for Macs actually support dual video, even though they typically have a Thunderbolt and HDMI output, you can only use one at a time (something they don't really advertise and it confuses a lot of people).So my solution for now: order two Mini-DisplayPort to DVI adapters for the monitors ($7.50/each), and just use this for Ethernet, audio, and USB. That kind of defeats the advantage of just plugging in one cable, but I need something that works first. If they ever get the driver issues figured out, I can always switch back and keep the MDP to DVI adapters for something else.3Multiple Monitors on Macbook AirI purchased for use with a 2017 Macbook Air for use with a multiple monitor display. I didn't expect that drivers would be necessary, but they were easy to download and install. Only issues are that there is slight lag when pulling a window across the monitors and the latest High Sierra upgrade required another driver update (It took awhile to realize this was the problem and became frustrating).3Did not work after two attemptsI purchased this item to connect my wife's HP laptop to two monitors. The first one took nearly one hour to finally connect to the computer, then kept disconnecting on its own. After spending over an hour on the phone with StarTech tech support, they determined the docking station was defective. I contacted Amazon and they promptly sent me a replacement. The second one was even worse and never did connect completely after numerous driver installs and uninstalls. I then went to Best Buy and purchased a VersaLink manufactured by Targus (same basic features as the StarTech. I connected it to the same laptop--it downloaded the drivers automatically and I was up and running perfectly within 2 minutes. The second StarTech is now on its way back to Amazon. Kudos to Amazon for their outstanding customer support, as usual.1Works Great!!When I first received the docking station (for use with my Thinkpad laptop), I couldnt get everything to work right. Some of the USBs worked, some didnt, and my monitor would not work. Frustrated, I decided to set the docking station aside for a few weeks and try again later. Second time around, I reinstalled the drivers from the Startech website (zip file download). Very happy to report that everything works now. I assume that my prior attempt to install the drivers was not successful, and that's why nothing seemed to work right.5Keep on flickering like it keep on dropping the connection signalDidn't work the way I would expect. It does not work with the current operating system and there is no fix. I currently spent more than an hour on the phone with tech support who remotely accessed my computer and it could not be fixed it - he explained it was a known Mac compatibility issue. No one will take it back. So I am using it to charge my phone. It gets the job done and is easy to set up.-2 stars, I am having an issue with lag on my monitors. It was so bad that I could not use a mouse though the docking station. I ended up buying an Apple mouse that connected directly to the computer via bluetooth.3Do Not Buy!!I purchased this Dual DVI Monitor Docking Station to connect to a new laptop that was built with top of the line components from a leading computer company. The first docking station failed and the company replaced it. The second docking station performed exactly the same as the first--failed to work. StarTech no longer responds so I now have a useless docking station while StarTech and Amazon have my money.1Software needs to be downloaded for it to be fully functional.I should have read about it more before I got it. I bought this so when I'm working from home, I can connect my laptop to a bigger monitor. I didn't know you had to install a software first before it can really work. At this point, since my laptop is for official use, I can't download the software. Thus, I'm just using it for the other "usb" connections - acts like a "usb splitter". I'm still connecting all my wires directly to the laptop so I can utilize my home monitor......3Constant flickering on my Lenovo Yoga 720This product showed a lot of promise but due to my Lenovo Yoga 720 drivers, I had an annoying flicker that only stopped if nothing was happening on my external displays.Tech support was very kind and helpful, giving me several options to try to alleviate the issue. They had me download and update chipset, display, and USB drivers from Lenovo, update Nvidia drivers, and even tried disabling one of the display adapters. Nothing worked.I don't think this is a systemic problem with docking station. In my opinion, if this device's DisplayPort Drivers work on your laptop/computer you're all set.3
