Customer Reviews

Good product I bought this for my classroom because I was tired of seeing the cord in front of my white board. I wanted to place my document camera to the side of my white board and not in front. This worked perfectly. I am not a tech person so I don't know how it affected the quality of what was being projected, but I haven't noticed a difference. 5Not a good product Excited by the price and seemingly positive reviews, I purchased these cables for the Ubuntu box I have hooked to an HDTV. The cable I have now is a VGA with one male end, one female, so I have to adapt it out and it sometimes falls out of the computer. I hooked these cables up and my computer would not output a resolution greater than 1024x768 no matter what I did. Thinking perhaps it was an issue with a driver update or Linux update (I've had plenty of Linux machines where something will mysteriously stop working after an update), I checked forums and the nVidia page. After that I went ahead and ran all the updates and made sure all my drivers were up to date, just in case. Still, nothing. Fiddled with all the menu options on the TV. Nope. To test if it was the cable itself, I snaked the old cable back, plugged it in, and got my actual, widescreen resolution back at 1366x768. This cable is probably fine if you're running a 1024x768 monitor but for widescreen, forget it. 2Excellent, especially for the price! I currently use an ATi x800 video card with two LCD displays, one of which is VGA. For the past year or so, I've been using a cable that came with the monitor, and recently, it's been causing all sorts of problems--color flickering, display signal loss, etc. When looking for a replacement VGA cable, this one caught my eye. After installing it, I found that the picture quality and brightness was better than I remember originally, and all the previous problems were gone. I've never had a problem with ghosting, even with fast-paced FPS games, but I can say for sure that this cable doesn't ghost. It feels very well-constructed (is about twice the diameter of my previous cable), and comes with a lifetime warranty from the manufacturer. The only caveat is that because of its sturdy construction, the ends don't bend too well if you need to fit them in at an angle. Otherwise, excellent cable, and definitely far better than any in its price range! 5Well manufactured cable I originally went to Best Buy to pick up a new 6' VGA cable to connect my PC to my 42" LCD TV (VGA inputs). They only had their own generic brand available, and wanted $25 for the cable. Frustrated, I also stopped in Radio Shack and walked out because they too wanted $25 for a video cable.I decided to visit Amazon and after reviewing several listings, I purchased this Startech monitor cable. It's hard to tell from the photo whether the quality of the cable would deliver a nice image. I am replacing another cable I bought over the web that was flimsy (thin) and delivered a sub par image - greenish and an strange yellow shadow behind all the images on screen. So this time I really wanted to find a cable that had a diameter like a dime, instead of a pencil - which I think is a good proxy for the overall quality of the materials used throughout the manufacturing process.I was very happy to see that the Startech cable is quite substantial in diameter and produced an excellent image on my 42" monitor. This cable performs very well and is a steal (I was able to get it for around $10) if you need to replace an OEM cable or if you bought a PC without a monitor and want to connect to a flat screen TV like me. 5Works well for connecting Sony laptop to HDTV I use this to connect my Sony Vaio to my HDTV (Samsung). The cord works really well to let me watch online shows on my TV through my computer.Just a note for anyone struggling with hooking up their Sony: My TV initially would not recognize that there was any input. You may have to update some various things (go to the Sony website to get those upgrades that are specific to your type of laptop. I did this and still couldn't get it to work, but it at least saw that there was input, it just said something about not being able to use the data or something along those lines. After some fiddling, I changed one of the settings to 60Hz (sorry I can't remember exactly where it was, somewhere under Control Panel and then Other... it's the same place where you tell it to use two screens). That did it! I've been pretty pleased with the quality- it's not superfantastic like watching a bluray but definitely better than watching TV on my laptop. 5Good cable, doesn't seem to support EDID I bought this cable to replace 2 6 foot VGA cables, one VGA M-M and a VGA extension cable, so it could reach my HDTV from my PC. Those 2 were crappy quality and I had ghost cloning on everything, dark objects on a white background had a ghost effect repeating to their right side, it was driving me nuts. so I bought this cable. First thing I noticed when I booted up the PC is that those clone images were all gone, I was happy at first glance, but as it booted up to the Desktop, I noticed that the screen was shifted way over to the right side, I couldn't even see the clock or half of the gadget bar in Vista. I played with the video card resolutions and I noticed it was showing up as a default VGA monitor, and not as Westinghouse HDTV, like it did on my old cables. That meant that the EDID doesn't work on the cable. And I can only pick the closest resolution of 1360*768 instead of the TV's native resolution of 1366*768.I did solve the issue with the huge offset by actually going into the HDTV menu on the set and go into VGA settings, then click on the Autosync button in the menu and that recentered the screen perfectly. 4As Advertised (unlike some others) I had to go through a couple of other cables from different sellers until I found one that worked properly. Some of the cables out there do not have all 15 pins connected (I checked with a multimeter.) For some connections, such as computer to monitor, that is okay as most newer monitors don't need all 15 connections. However, connecting my laptop to my Samsung TV does require all 15 of the cable's pins to be connected and working. Why don't all manufacturers simply do this? To save a few pennies per cable and there are sellers who don't care about providing a decent product. At least when you buy through Amazon you have some recourse as far as returns go but I wish the junk could be weeded off the website. Anyway, this cable does the job. 5Decent price, a little lacking in quality. This cable was purchased to run from a computer to a 50" TV on a wall that was being used as a large security camera monitor. To run it through the wall, I ran it through a DataComm 45-0001-WH 1-Gang Recessed Low Voltage Cable Plate (White) hoping to reduce cable strain. I also secure the cable to the top of the wall with a zip tie that I screwed to the wall. End result: No cable strain. After only about 6 weeks of use, the TV would no longer get signal. After some troubleshooting, I determined that it was the VGA cable. I replaced it with a better quality (and higher priced) VGA and it worked great for 2 years. At that point, I got a different computer and ended up ring VGA.Overall, good price for the cable, but somewhat lacking in quality. 3Does what a VGA cable is supposed to do. I needed a vga cable to connect an older computer to my monitor for a repair job. I thought I had one, but I seemed to have misplaced it or maybe I just gave it away, thinking that I would never need it again. Ya Right! So I ordered this one today and tomorrow, it was here...and I was able to get yet another junk computer, back on the streets. The cable worked just like I imagined it would and I've never had any problems with it.It's kind of mind-boggling what people expect us techies to accomplish in regards to their computers. One guy brought me a laptop that looked like he had dragged it behind his car, for a week or so. He said...can you fix this? I said...what is it? He said...it's a laptop. I said uhhh NO and I shut my door. 5Inexpensive and its works This items is exactly what you expect and is the actual product shown in the photo.I disagree with some of the reviews that say this product does not include the pictured ferrite core. I ordered the product shipped by Amazon, not through Amazon Marketplace, and it came in a Startech labeled bag with a ferrite core attached. If I had to guess, the reviews that said that this product lacks the ferrite core may have come from reviewers/purchasers who may have purchased the "item" through Amazon Marketplace. Even though the product listing is for a specific manufacturer's product, some unscrupulous Amazon Marketplace sellers will link their cheaper generic products to a listing such as this, e.g. bait-and-switch. Buyers are lured by the cheaper price but end up with a lower quality product that isn't the actual product listed. Unfortunately, Amazon does not aggressively police this practice and compensate buyers for the hassle of dealing with such sellers who use Amazon Marketplace in this fashion. Amazon places the burden and hassle of this on the buyer. Amazon's management may look at Amazon Marketplace as an additional revenue source and probably wonders why they didn't think of it earlier, but eventually, when they're nailed by a group of state Attorneys General with being complicit in false advertising claims by unscrupulous Marketplace sellers, maybe they will think twice about how they manage Amazon Marketplace. While I have had some flawless transactions with some Marketplace sellers for items that Amazon itself does not carry, I've had more than my share issues with other Marketplace sellers. Amazon should rename Amazon Marketplace Amazon "Buyer Beware - Your On Your Own If You're Screwed"-Place. 5
