like the original charger I bought this to replace my broken Garmin car charger. I believe it originally came with a data cable as well, but I'm not the originally owner. I wanted a usb, not another car charger, because my car only has 1 charging port and I wanted to have the option to charge multiple things at once. My Garmin is several years old, so it has about 30sec of battery power, so it needs to be plugged in for continuous use.I wanted a right angled mini-usb end, like the original charger, so it would lay nicely when mounted on the windshield. It turns out, this cord angles towards the driver (the original angles away), but I've been able to loop it back towards the passenger, and it's not that big of a deal anyway.Be advised, this is a data cable, not a charging cable, so while it does charge just fine, it also takes about 10 sec each time it's plugged in to attempt to find a computer before it allows access to the Garmin's screen.If anyone's curious, I plug it into this:http://www.amazon.com/ACEPower-Portable-Charger-Android-Devices/dp/B00H26JR4A 4Purchased for my Garvin Nuvi Purchased this actually to update the maps on my Garvin Nuvi. Purchased in 2016 and still works, just updated maps again yesterday. This is a data cable, not a charging cable. If you have a newer vehicle but without a GPS (my truck) and one of the ports is a data/charging port, plugging this cable in will show on your data screen that you have a data cable plugged in. Or rather, I should say it does on my vehicle. And it will charge like any cable, but very very very slowly.But charging is not why I purchased it and it does exactly what I purchased it for and two years later it is still working the same.Works perfectly on a Nuvi for plugging into a computer and updating maps. 5Misinformed The Star Tech cable works, and is all right. I use it to charge the battery of a PC tablet. The longer cable length is a convenience to have. But the product description states that the cable comes with a limited lifetime warranty. This is one of the reasons, that I purchased this. When I went onto the StarTech website. The information there states that this warranty will be honored if the Star Tech product is purchased from their website. If a Star Tech product is purchased from another seller. Then the buyer is out of luck as far as a follow up on warranty coverage. This is misleading information. 3Paying for a USB cable?? I never thought I'd write a review for a mini USB cable, but I'm doing it. My M-Audio Keystation Mini 32 keyboard would power on with other cables, but not be recognized on either PC's or my MacBook. The midi keyboard was class compliant and should've automatically been installed once I plugged in the USB cable. I tried numerous cables I had with no success. They would power up the keyboard's lights, but not show up on the computer. After reading a few forum posts that suggested trying cables, I purchased this cable and miraculously it worked! We have so many mini and micro USB cables these days that we take them for granted and I was hesitant about buying a cable that is so commonly available for free these days. 5NOT compatible with Garmin Nuvi 2XX series for charging The description says "Compatible with various Mini USB mobile devices such as the following GPS devices Garmin Nuvi 2XX series"This is a standard USB cable and works for data for Garmin Nuvi 2XX series GPs devices like any standard USB mini B cable would, but it does NOT work as a charging cable. If you are looking for a cable to charge your Nuvi GPS in your vehicle this cable will not work. The GPS device sees it as a data cable and thinks it is connected to a computer. 2So I began my search for the right angle style like the original cable that had the power adapter connected The Backstory:I got a TomTom GPS from Woot.com almost 10 years ago for about $30. It's never been updated and it takes forever to start up....all that being said, it's gotten me to both coasts and many places in between with minimal difficulty, so when I thought it died I was almost heart broken...and my wallet was similarly concerned. Luckily I thought to test the power supply. I connected only of my old mini-usb to usb 2.0 cables to the device and and a power adapter and it sprang back to life! However, the straight cable I had hung annoyingly in view while driving. So I began my search for the right angle style like the original cable that had the power adapter connected. I came across this one. Despite my concerns of how it would fit and feeling that it's price point may mean it'll die in two days I tried it. It fit perfectly! And I've been using it successfully for just over a year.The Point:It's a great product presuming you find a need for it, and it's reasonably priced (for me even more so because it was either a $3 cable or a $100+ GPS). I highly recommend this product. 5Supurb! This item definitely met my expectations and more. It was shipped super quick, very small eco-friendly package. I used this item to recharge my Playstation 3 controller. I pulled out my PS3 remote to attempt to hook it via blutooth to my phone go play FIFA 16 when I saw there was controller option. I ended up finding an old OTG(On The Go) connecter for my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and plugged it into my phone the other end into this wire and the wire into the controller and next thing you know I can use my Playstation 3 remote controller to control my phone and play games. Great product! 5It works well and it's super cheap Build quality is great, connections are solid, it works well and it's dirt cheap; what's not to love? I use this to charge my Garmin cycling GPS units, but it also works on traditional heads up GPS units, some cameras, phones and most anything else that takes mini USB.Look, when you're buying cables on Amazon, in most cases, unless you need something to be very high quality, most of us are going to go as cheap as we can get away with. I feel very confident in this is just about as cheap as you can possibly go on this type of cable and have something that will hold up for a while. I still enthusiastically recommend this.Cheers! 5Unshielded - Subject to Interference This cable has very poor shielding and is subject to interference. I was using it to connect a Raspberry Pi to a 3D printer and the motor and heater generate some RF interference that the cable is not properly shielded from - making it disconnect frequently - totally useless. Ordered another brand for a dollar more - and so far - excellent performance. 1Great length, love the 90 connector. But doesn't work... Bought this 6' mini USB cord to power a little fan on my countertop. I was looking forward to getting this cord as my StarTech micro USB to mini USB adapter's tip bent after a couple of uses. I figured it was because the fan is tiny & seemed to bend/push the cord against the counter when tilted upward. I thought having a cord plugged directly into the fan would work better & the RT 90 connector would be great as it would be "flush" with the back of it.I was wrong. The cord seems to have either a short or the connector is faulty. The fan only runs if the cord is placed in an awkward position & if bumped, I have to fiddle with the damned thing yet again. So not sure if I just got a bad cord or if StarTech products just suck....**Please note: The fan itself is NOT the issue. It runs great with the supplied cord, but I needed a longer one. 1
