Customer Reviews

Don't Bother With This One To me, Stanley products have always represented a good product at a good price. However this tape measure is very below average. More like a novelty or joke tool. The feed and return mechanism seems cheap and unreliable. The locking mechanism likewise seems flimsy and gives the impression that it will break the next time you use it. I was looking for a tape measure under 10 feet and on the small size, this one meets those requirements, but I don't think it will last very long. I was planning to return it, but Amazon says I can't return it. I guess I am stuck with a product I don't like and don't want. Thanks! 2Not for constant shop use. This is a good tape measure if you want something small enough to fit in your pocket so you can occasionally measure something (like at a store or something like that) . DON'T LET IT RECOIL ON ITS OWN. Too much power in the recoil. I used it for two days constantly (an 8 hr day) and the tab/hook broke off - made it recoil the tape into the case. Now it is useless. Also the tape (when it was usable) is very small and it's tough to get the hook to hold on its own. Most of the time you have to hold the hook on the edge of what you are measuring. No one handed measuring. If you want a good quality, small tape - buy the Lufkin 12' (about $20, but you won't have to toss it in the trash) 2Good compact little It's tiny so great to throw in the pocket before heading out to the hardware store in case I need to measure things. It is very slim and light like you'd expect. The only downside is the metal tip doesn't slide in or out that tiny bit to offset when you measure by pressing the tip against a wall or pull by anchoring it on something. If you anchor it it's dead on but if you push it against something, like say the inside of a window sill it's 1/16" longer than what it really is. The other downside is it's not like the big tape measures and can't support itself when held horizontal, or for that matter in any direction.Really this wasn't meant for actual work so I can get past this. Really I bought it so I don't buy something that says it's 2" when there's an inner diameter to consider as well. Stuff like that. 5Highly recommend for small jobs. This little measuring tape is the perfect size if you don't have a lot of space. I got it because I am in the marketing department so I need to ship a lot of smaller packages and it fits easily in my pocket without falling out when I am running around and bending over. Love how compact it is, even though it is even smaller in person than I thought it was going to be. It goes all the way to 10 feet, and the numbers are big enough so you can read them easily. The lock works great and keeps the tape in place, just as it should. Good construction (I have already dropped it a couple of times and it is holding together nicely.) Highly recommend. It's made of sturdy, durable plastic and is very lightweight. It's length of 10ft is more than adequate for making everyday measurements - it was perfect while I was furniture shopping. This pocket tape measure also has the same yellow powerlock switch that the larger tape measures have. I will be purchasing a second one to keep in my car. Very happy with this purchase!!Approximate Measurements:Length: 2inWidth: 2inDepth: 0.5in 5Handy Tape Measure - easy to carry around This is an extremely handy tape measure. It's not big, bulky or weigh a ton. I have several larger tape measures, but when I need something on the go to quickly measuring small distances, door ways, and other items ... I reach for this tape measure. Why? It's just convenient. Note: I don't really use it for anything larger than 5'... and if I need to use something where the tape measure needs to stay straight, I use my larger tape measures. The tape on this is not as sturdy - obviously due to the size and thickness of the material used. I've never had issues with the tape inside the unit either (winding or unwinding)... again keep in mind, don't really use this for anything under 5-8'.TLDR - Great for small projects, small item measuring, and the portability. I recommend - plus it's inexpensive. 5Really convenient and well-constructed I've recently been doing a lot of house repair and renovation and this has come in very handy. I started carrying this around as I found myself needing to take measurements at fairly random times (moving furniture, comparing timber sizes, looking at other people's houses and material for inspiration, etc). It is very light, fits nicely in my pocket, and is sturdy (I had a different one that broke once I got to the end of the ruler). The only potential downside is that the narrower tape can make it less sturdy, but I've found it hold up pretty well for everything I measure, which tends to be 5 ft or less. My guess is that it would be easy enough to find a work around if it starts to flop at longer lengths. The trade-off of being lighter is more than worth it. 5Didn't last. Broke in 8 months. Honestly, it's not a bad mini tape measure as far as small plastic tapes go. I only have two problems:1. They LIE in the description. The case is NOT chrome plated metal, it's PLASTIC. Feels much cheaper than I thought it would.2. The case does not fit the tape snugly so it sloshes around a bit when it's in your pocket. If they were straightforward in the description it would have earned another star. If it didn't slosh it would be perfect. I bought one for my dad for his birthday to replace his old, well-worn mini tape that he has (with an actual metal case). Had I known it felt so cheap I would have looked elsewhere. I'm a little embarrassed to have given it to him. I think he still prefers his worn out tape.UPDATE: 4/29/2015:I asked them to change the description and it has been updated to reflect the plastic ABS case.I ve had the tape for 8 months and the end has snapped off. No unusual use, I was just measuring a table at Sam s Club and when the tape retracted the end broke off right at the 2nd rivet and the rest of the tape disappeared inside, rendering it useless. I know it s a cheap tape but I m disappointed that it didn t even make it a year.I am surprised with the metal finish on the plastic, it has held up better than I thought it would. As my everyday carry, it spends a lot of time in my back pocket (tape reel makes too much noise in the front), and the finish, while a bit scratched, has not worn off.Dad s is still going working fine. He s kept it around and I see him use it from time to time.I m currently shopping for a replacement. I m going to look for another brand and see if it holds up any better. If anyone has any recommendations I d love to hear about them.I ve added some picture of its current condition. I scratched some of the chrome off the inside of the right half so you can see the white plastic body underneath. Also note the mouth wears quite a bit. 2Great for Its Portability, But Flimsy for "Real" Measuring... The Stanley 33-115 10-Foot-by-1/4-Inch PowerLock Pocket Tape Rule is a great little tool with respect to its portability! There are so many times I've wanted to measure a piece of furniture, a wall decoration, or the length of some hardware item and have had nothing but my handspan by which to gauge the measurement. Frankly, my spouse's tape measures were all to big and bulky - even the shorter length ones - to warrant carrying them. Then I saw the reviews on the Stanley 33-115 10-Foot-by-1/4-Inch PowerLock Pocket Tape Rule when searching on Amazon for a new tape measure for my spouse. I ordered this product and am so glad I did. No more handspan measuring for me.The Stanley 33-115 10-Foot-by-1/4-Inch PowerLock Pocket Tape Rule is compact, lightweight and easy to use. It locks so that one can measure one length repeatedly. However, because of the width of the tape and its light weight, the tape is not rigid. This makes measuring something without assistance rather challenging. My spouse was less than happy with this item as a tape measure for inside our home; it was not something he would care to use for "real" measuring. I, on the other hand, loved its compact size and the fact I would no longer have to tote a large, heavy tape measure when shopping for something requiring measurement. However, I must honestly admit that it is difficult to measure longer items without assistance. The small hook at the tape's end does not stay placed well; as a result, the tape tends to flex so it is not always straight.I feel the Stanley 33-115 10-Foot-by-1/4-Inch PowerLock Pocket Tape Rule is a fine product and would recommend it for anyone who needs to carry a tape measure when shopping. However, it is not sufficiently rigid so that measuring items without assistance is easily accomplished. For that reason, I did not feel I could rate it a five star item. 4Perfect little measure I wanted something that was small for crafts as well as measuring around the house. This is perfect! It's only 10 ft but I hardly ever use the full length. It's very flexible and allows you to easily measure the circumference of items and measure things that aren't exactly flat. The tape is well made and strong enough to deal with a pesky cat who thinks you're trying to play. It's small and compact and fits nicely in any drawer and even in "girl pockets". While it's not great for measuring large distances -- you're clearly not looking at a 10' tape to do so! 5
