Customer Reviews

Tiller pilot is a must for solo sailing. This unit rocks! You can t beat the value here. Simrad will always be part of my boat. Setting sails when solo is a breeze when you don t have to worry about the boat jibing on you. Need a cup of Java? You can go below and be confident of your heading while you make coffee. It sure eases the load for solo sailing. The value here can t be overstated. Crossing Lake Huron is much easier and more enjoyable with this unit backing me up. Installs quickly and was ready to run in under an hour. Take me advice, you will not be sorry! 5This unit works great. I tried two of the Raymarine tiller pilots ...This unit works great. I tried two of the Raymarine tiller pilots and neither would work within 10 degrees and often would get completely lost. The TP 10 has less capability than the Raymarine, but on my boat it keeps a good course and took away my frustration. My sailboat goes six miles an hour and I have used the TP 10 for for probably 20 or 30 hours at regular speed and fishing speed. Works great. I do not sail, so I can't give feedback on its capability under sail. 5Nice tiller pilot but be advisedNice tiller pilot but be advised: Simrad's 150mm (about 6 inches) extension pushrod, which may be required for some installations (like mine), has a manufacturing defect--it is simply the wrong diameter (19mm) to properly thread onto the TP10 pushrod (diameter 18mm). Not sure if any of the other extensions are similarly defective, but until Navico recognizes the problem (they have not, after 3 conversations with their tech support people) and replaces the stock of their extensions with new ones with the proper dimensions, I would avoid. 1put it back together and it worked great for about another 5 yearsI owned one of these before. It fell overboard into a fresh water lake and dangled by the chord in the water for a long time. I pulled it out and shook the water out , opened it up and sprayed it with WD40, put it back together and it worked great for about another 5 years. Works great on my sail boat. 5this is a bad design. A simple cheap diode would have protected ...I have used the Simrad TP-10 for one year now, about 150 hours of use, and it does get the job done. The design, however, leaves much to be desired. In particular, there is no "Reverse Polarity" protection. Last week, returning from a night trip in the dark I fumbled with the power plug (which is polarized with one large conductor and one small conductor) and a momentary reverse contact caused a small spark and blew the 10 amp fuse. I got the power plug connected and replaced the fuse and it blew again, and again. The auto tiller never came back on line. When I opened the auto tiller to see what happened I discovered that the design does not include a reverse polarity diode and there was damage to the main control circuit board. I guess that's terminal! Also, the back EMF diode (D-6) on the surface mount control board was blown, see picture. My take, this is a bad design. A simple cheap diode would have protected this $400.00 plus devise. I'm very disappointed in the Simrad and will likely buy something else when I replace it. Funny, you can get the battery backwards into those cheap wall clocks you can buy for $5.00 and no problem, as these have some type of reverse polarity, but not the $400.00 plus auto tiller. Kind of makes you think there may be some method to their (Simrad) madness. And I m about 10 days out of the warrantee period. Well Simrad, strike one and you re out too! 2Five StarsVery nice. 5A good tillerpilot for a small boat. The TP10 will get a small boat where it needs to go. It doesn't have a compass. I already have 3 on my boat. 4 if I download the right cellphone app. It has the power needed to keep a small boat on course in moderate weather helm. It looks rugged enough to last for years. I hope to live long enough to see if I am correct. 4Won't cast off without itDefinitely my first mate 5
