Customer Reviews

sound of silenceUsed this in place of a noisy fan in a power supply. Pleasantly quiet. 5Quite and moves alot of air.Replaced the fans on my NanoCube12 and Biocube 29 with these and now I don't have to deal with that annoying loud hum that the stock fans had. 5The Silenx IXTREMA 60mm is a small and versatile fan.I bought three of these fans to fill specific needs for my Thermaltake Element S case. I used two of the Silenx fans as exhaust fans stacked vertically above the bottom-mounted PSU and opposite the two 120mm intake fans that are located behind the front panel door. I used the third Silenx 60mm to replace the noisy and ineffective nForce fan that draws heat from the EVGA 750i motherboard's MCP. That fan had a special cover and mount, so I used zip ties to secure the Silenx and it is quiet and moves much more air that the supplied "fan." Obviously these fans don't move a lot of air. The ones I bought claim 18 cfm at 2,000 rpm plus or minus 15% and 16 dBA. I've since seen various claims on different sites from the same model..??. Subjectively, I can say that they are very quiet and they do move the air, which is what I wanted.CONS: If I ever need to remove my EVGA e-GeForce 9800GT Akimbo GPU, I would have to yank both the Silenx fans to do it. Not a problem...just sayin'... Also, I tried to hook up both rear-mounted fans to a splitter so I could power them from one mobo fan header, but only one fan would spin up and I had to plug each into its own header. Luckily, the 750i has two fan headers next to each other within reach of the fans, but it could be problematic for other layouts. Silenx does include a converter cable that allows you to hook the fan into the PSU via a 3-pin to 4-pin molex connector.OTHER THOUGHTS: Silenx claims "the world's best noise-to-airflow ratio" and I can't vouch for that, but it sure does move air that you can feel on your hand and it is super quiet due to the design of the fan blades which are similar to the Noctua NF-P12s I run on the front as intake and the two other 120mm NF-P12s I run on the CORSAIR Hydro series H50 CPU cooler. 4Quiet, but not much air flowThis fan is very quiet, but at the cost of air flow. I bought it to replace a loud fan in a ReadyNAS. I'm happy with the sound, but the fan moves very little air. It's hard to tell it is actually working. My NAS use to be cool to the touch, but now it is rather warm. I'll probably go back to the old fan and just move the device into the garage. 3Died after about 18 months of low useVery poor lifetime on this particular example. I doubt that it had more than 400 hr of use on it. 1First one lasted a year. Hope the second one lasts longer.Very quiet and moves a lot of air for its size. The first one lasted about a year then began to rumble. I hope the second one lasts longer... 4shhhhhhhhhexcellent fans very Quiet 5BioCube fan replacementReplaced the Fans on my BioCube 29 gallon hood - nice and silent. It did take some modifications and wiring to do it (instructions can be found online), but it was not too bad if you feel comfortable doing that sort of thing. 5Used for Nanocube 28 gallonI replaced the noisy fans in the Nanocube 28 gal saltwater tank with these 60 mm fans. The stock fans are 50mm, but these will fit snuggly. I didn't screw them in, just put a couple strips of tape on the wall so they don't slip down-this will make sense when you see how snug they fit. Finally the "cube" is quite! Note that these have three wires and the original fans have two. You will need to splice the black original wire to two of the new fans wires and the red one to one new wire alone. I little trial and error and you will figure out the arrangement. Also, make sure that no wires can touch the fan when you seal it up. Tape them down if you have too. 5
