Customer Reviews

SIIG USB Type C to Gigabit Ethernet AdapterWith many of the new laptops lacking ethernet connectors, this type of adapter becomes necessary. My 9 year old Lenovo T61 recently bit the dust so I replaced it with a Dell 14-5000. This computer is used primarily when I travel and the rest of the time sits on top of a file cabinet attached to my local network where it is synced with my desktop unit. Since the Dell lacks ethernet, I tried the SIIG adapter and plugged it into the Dell's USB C port. It works perfectly, even bringing the computer out of hibernate with a Magic Packet. Fast.com indicates I am getting internet download speeds of 270 and uploads of 93 on my 250 Mbps FiOptics connection. I couldn't be more pleased.5Small, inexpensive, and worksMy spiffy new hybrid laptop didn't have an wired ethernet port. I guess most folks can live wireless these days - but I use wired ethernet for configuring network equipment and doing network diagnosis. Enter this USB based Ethernet interface.Being USB, I doubt it's very fast or easy on the CPU, but it has done everything I have asked it to, including packet capture on windows and linux. Installation must have been easy, as I don't even remember it. I may have hunted down the latest windows driver, but I think it installed automatically when I connected it.5Excellent device for laptops without Ethernet ports or computers with broken Ethernet ports.Works great. I use it for work all the time. When setting up wireless routers I like to configure all the settings with a hard wire connection from my thin laptop what does not have a Ethernet port. Works great on USB 3.0 connection, easily hit full speeds as a true hard wire connection. After many uses I have not had any issues with this product. I can see how it can great easily but obviously you should be careful with your laptop just treat this as an extension to it. When I'm not using my laptop I disconnect this from the USB port and keep it safe near the laptop.5Great performance, easy installationI bought this to replace an Apple USB Ethernet adapter that had walked away from a colleague's desk (Apple branded peripherals are always a hit item). Anyways, the performance is quite good and installation on a 2015 MacBook Pro with OS X 10.11.4 was a breeze no additional driver download needed. I'll definitely purchase one of these next time I need to replace a missing Ethernet adapter. One last thing, although the boot surrounding the USB connector appears a bit large in the product photos, it does not interfere with the use of adjacent thunderbolt and HDMI ports.5Perfect plug and play gigabit ethernet adapter. Fits Macbook Pro without blocking the thunderbolt port!I got this because I needed an ethernet connection on my mid 15 MBP but I also need to use both of the thunderbolt display ports for monitors so I can't use my thunderbolt ethernet adapter.I wanted a usb 3.0 full gigabit ethernet adapter that I could use and this works great. I'm getting the exact same file transfer speeds on my network vs what my desktop using gigabit also gets so it absolutely delivers the speeds you would expect. The usb plug is larger than normal but it does not interfere or block the thunderbolt port that is adjacent to it.5Unpredictably disconnects at the worst times - not reliable or trustworthy, but fast when it stays connectedThis has very limited use, since it unpredictably disconnects at the worst times. It seems structurally well built, with stout connectors, beefy cable, LED indicators, etc. But at least twice week, it disconnects from my network. This is very inconvenient, for example, when I am in the middle of filling out an online form, doing a search or completing a transaction; my work is then lost when this loses the network connection. I have checked all the software settings (drivers etc), which are not the problem. I have also tried connecting this to multiple USB and Ethernet jacks (with several different configurations), to no avail. I never have this disconnection issue when I connect via my wireless adapter and router. When this adapter is functioning, it gives great speed. Since I do not it trust it to maintain a reliable connection, I usually use my wireless connection instead--only switching to the SIIG adapter for large file transfers. I had this same problem with other Gigabit USB adapters, so will keep this one just for the limited use. Disappointed this is not reliable or trustworthy enough to be my main network connection.2Not the quickest Adapter, but most reliable...This product lost one star because I cannot achieve more than about 350 megabits/second Ethernet transfer speeds with it, while with my other adapters I can get above 950 megabits/second read and write (I have Google Fiber). HOWEVER, if you don't have Google Fiber, than this product will be fast enough for your needs, and it's the most reliable USB 3.0 Ethernet adapter I've tested. With many USB 3.0 Ethernet adapters, you require special drivers, and when the connection is interrupted, you must reboot your computer before getting a connection again. My experience with this SIIG adapter has been wonderful - like you'd expect, it's truly hot plug and play. And for most of the people out there, 350 megabits/second will be more than fast enough. :)I use this as an alternative to my Apple Thunderbolt adapter in settings where I want to run two monitors at once and don't need full gigabit internet speeds. I'm using this on a 2015 Retina 15" Macbook Pro.4V1 is non-working garbage - no support no new drivers for newer OSDO NOT BUY VERSION 1 EVEN THOUGH IT IS CHEAP. I am not sure what is purpose of SIIG selling scrap and not even supporting it on their website. There are no drivers (and yes this is different hardware inside so drivers are not compatible as I tried them). Also it would be good if manufacturer did not make some not understand market moves with hardware. The V1 does not work on newer Mac OS when system is updated. It used to work perfectly. If SIIG keeps this behaviro wasting people's money (there are no new features between V1 and V2) than I wonder if we should buy their products that become garbage after short period of time. To SIIG: Leran how to stand behind your product and provide long term support and not run business on pollutng planet with garbage products.3Adapter For Thin LaptopsWell, the tradeoff in getting one of these really thin laptops is that a lot of the jacks you used to have won't fit on the sides of the unit. So you have to drag along some adapters to go from the "mini" versions to what you had on the thick laptop. This one allows me to connect to the internet by hard cable in the event that the hotel wireless is on the blink (those of you who travel frequently understand the realities of this). There is a driver set that comes with it on a disc, but you can also do it through the website of the manufacturer. All of this was very easy, and the thing works. I did not measure speed; it seems OK to me, so I tossed it in my bag and one of these days I will be glad I bought it.5WiFi is ok for just surfing but I have a home network with servers and file transfers via WiFi was terrible (4-6 MB/s) thats MegI have a Asus Zen ultrabook that only has USB ports. WiFi is ok for just surfing but I have a home network with servers and file transfers via WiFi was terrible (4-6 MB/s) thats MegaByte/sec not bit. For web surfing that is good enough as 50Mbit cable modems only deliver around 4Megabyte/sec. I am talking real world not theory transfer speeds. My Zen came with a dongle for external CAT 5 connections but it was only 100Mbit and USB2. It got around 10 Megabyte/sec file transfer on the lan.I got this SIIG and id not expect much. PLugged it into the zen (win7 home) and no drivers needed. Worked right away.File transfer was as good as my desktops, around 90 Megabytes/sec +- 3MB/sec. Huge difference.Get this if you do large file transfers from you laptop or if you want to game on the laptop wifi free. You don't really need this one to game well, my 100Mbit one would game just as well as 10MB/sec is much more than 50Mbit cable.Wifi is ok, better than nothing but its the lowest form of a connection. Good Product so far.5
