GREAT little hub WORTH EVERY PENNY! So GREAT I bought a 2nd one. THIS WORKS GREAT! I'm using it to extend to my Samsung 27" monitor as I type this. My past employer had issued me one and now that I don't work for them anymore, I really missed it's convenience! It's intuitive to set up (I didn't have to read any instructions although it does come with them), and it's small enough to pack and go. GREAT little hub WORTH EVERY PENNY! 5... using this on my MacBook and so far so good. I'm using the following portsI'm using this on my MacBook and so far so good. I'm using the following ports: HDMI (monitor), ethernet and one of the USB ports. Everything works like its supposed to. The only bummer is I can't use the wireless dongle for my keyboard/mouse because the hub sits too far away from where I sit. I guess the transmitter in the little usb "nub" is not so strong. I also plugged in a USB flash drive to test the speeds and it was just as fast as plugging it in directly.4MacBook Pro (Early 2013)I needed a Ethernet solution to complete adding profiles (Current Users in MAC) in a Active Directory Domain Environment, the USB 3.0 connection work perfectly with the Ethernet port (only when directly connected to the uplink, No Wifi switches/routers). Even MacBook Pro's (2019) needed a USB C hub with Ethernet to do the same task... Apple Says its a bug that won't be fixed this year in Catalina 10.15.3, however, the "Other" login does appear when you use a working Ethernet hub in both year models on AD Domain devices. thanks JTR5MacBook Air 2013 i5 - Didn't workNot working on a MacAir 2013 i5 w/ThunderBolt 2 - and yes I installed driver from their website... Well it works great if I use a different PC with native HDMI interface and skip your adapter entirely. This adapter may work on other configurations, but it is not functional for my combination, and it is going back. Love Amazon's return policy! Just ordered a thunderbolt to HDMI and a usb to ethernet, instead. That's all I need and it was a fraction of the cost.1Decent product for the money. Decent product, a little short on the documentation and no reference to the 5 volt DC port as to amperage and where to obtain an power supply. Also, the USB 3.0 ports won't recognize external hard drives, possibly due to the power requirement, might work with the DC power supply. Not many options out there for Mini Displayport 2 3Macbook Pro Mid 2014. No issues I use this on my Mid 2014 15" Mac book pro to drive an external monitor at 1080p , 1GB Ethernet and a USB keyboard. So far so good. The dock is light weight and does not heat up at all. I have used several other 300+USD thunderbolt docking stations and all of them heated up and would simply fail after a while with a 2nd display attached. I don't plan on using a second display on this setup so its a huge cost savings for me. I do wish this dock had audio jack. 5Where are the Instructions?My sample came with the four rubber foot pads already installed (good), but I found the packaging excessive (environmentally bad). I have not rated durability because I have only had this device for a couple of weeks, but it seems well enough made to tolerate some abuse.This SIIG Mini-DP Video Dock functions as advertised for HDMI video output, gigabit ethernet connection, and USB 3 connections. I have not tested the DisplayPort, but would be quite surprised if it were less than fully functional.The included User Reference Guide is graphically attractive, provides extensive specifications, and is well illustrated. There are two flaws: (1) There are no instructions of the form "connect the X connector on the dock to an X port on your computer" or "connect the output(s) before/after connecting the input(s)". (2) The description of the optional external power connector is extensive but more confusing than helpful. This description probably means, "Connect the optional 5VDC external power supply with a shield negative, tip positive 3.5mm power plug." The line drawing of the power plug does not follow standard engineering drawing practice, and would probably confuse most readers even if it did. A good photograph of the proper plug would be better.On the balance, if trading one MiniDisplay Port (Thunderbolt 2 Port) and one USB 3 port to get two USB 3 ports, one gigabit ethernet port and your choice of either an HDMI video port or a DisplayPort video will work well four you, the SIIG Mini-DP Video Dock should serve you well. My rating goes up to five stars if you do not need good instructions or after future releases include clear hook up instructions.4Works well with limitsThis device is almost really good. Most connections work as advertised. The one BIG problem is the amount of power available to the USB 3 ports. I use an external usb dvd and hard drives, and the external ports will not handle the power requirements. The unit does not come with an AC adapter. Compounding that problem is the DC jack - just try to find one that will fit. No one I could find makes an adapter with the required 1.5mm inside diameter. They're all 1.35mm. So if your power requirements are not too high, this is an ok adapter. The lack of an AC adapter is a serious oversight.3So far so goodAt first I thought this was not working but the Surface Pro 1s mini port will allow you to insert the plug backwards. THought it would be keyed like the USB port but it will allow you to incorrectly insert and it wont work.Once I figured out it was backwards (printing on the plug needs to be towards the front) it worked well.Great to be able to extend my display with an external display on the Surface Pro 1. Have not tested the RJ45 or USB extender yet. That will happen next week. But for DNP to HDMI works fine.4Not fully compatible with older macbooks! I bought this product because I frequently switch between my personal laptop, a 2011 unibody Macbook Pro and my work laptop, a 2015 Retina Macbook Pro. I was hoping that it would help me deal with my cord situation. It worked just fine with the newer laptop but with the older laptop it would not allow output to my 3k monitor at native resolution, I had to scale it back to a lower resolution and the ethernet did not function at all. 3Only one display port works at a timeLove the usability aspect. Although it is mentioned in the description, only one display port works at a time. This is not clearly highlighted.4Dont Buy It So i bought the mini-dp video dock usb 3.0 hub through amazon. The info states that if i have a usb 3.0 hard drive and only a 2.0 mac input I can plug this into my thunderbolt output and get the speed upto 5.0 Ive tried it, tested it compared to the 2.0 ports and its no faster. It should be MUCH faster. WTF!!!??? I have to plug in the usb also into my imac or it wont see the drive. But NO its no faster. If there isnt some trick to it, i will return it and NEVER buy anything from SIIG again. If it was never meant to work for a 3.0 drive to run faster through the tunderbolt port then this company COMPLETELY confuses the writing. This will be returned tomorrow. Amazon was nice enough to issue an RMA for a refund.I'll try something else. 1Has been working great for me.Great hub for having your most common gadgets in one tidy place. No more running out of USB connections. I bought it with the main idea of having a wired LAN connection, so the added connections are a great bonus. You must connect the two cables (USB and media) to your laptop for the hub to work. However, if you want to free up the USB on your laptop (used to power the hub), you can alternatively add an AC adapter (not included).5Works with MBAir 2017Got this since it has multiple ports instead of the one that Apple sells.Great price uses the displayport but Thunderbolt 2 for my MBAir. as well as the usb portTried the LAN PORT And it works wellPlayed a movie via HDMI plugged to a TV and it works great (video and sound).Have not tried the USB yet.The packaging is simple and easy to remove.The unit itself is plasticky in appearance (since it is plastic) and you see some blue led when plugged to the 2 ports which I know at least it is plugged correctly.The connector wires are at least thick and does not easily break.So 5 stars for the price and ports and price.4 stars for the constructionbut overall I am happy with this item5Not what I was hoping for I don't know if it was clear on the description that the Ethernet port will be limited to 100T as opposed gigabit Ethernet. Fits on the small desk I work on when traveling (shown in the picture) and easily drops into a computer bag.Gives me 2 USB ports where I plug in mice, external keyboards, printers, etc. The LAN port gives me wired and secure Internet access. And the 2 display ports (traditional HDMI and DP 1.1) let me connect most external monitors, TVs, and projectors.There are 2 cables to connect it to the Surface: you can use one or both at the same time. One plugs into the Surface's USB port, the other into its mini-display port. In my photo, only the USB is plugged in (black cable); my external monitor is plugged directly to the Surface (white cable) rather than through the SIIG dock.Drawbacks: (minor ones)Would love to have more flexible cable connectors. The current ones on stiff and sometimes difficult to arrange neatly in some situations.IMPORTANT!This particular model works only with Surface 1, 2, and 3. Newer Surface 4 models use USB-C ports as well as the 1.2 standard for the DP port, so this dock will not work with them later Surfaces.If you need USB-C or higher DP, then check SIIG's website for newer docks like model JU-H30B11-S1. (Amazon won't let me give a direct link to it.)I like SIIG's products and have used them for years with many laptops and desktops. Well-engineered, nicely priced and they work! Just plug them in a go. Nice.5
