Easy to use. 5A unique cameraI have been intrigued by the Sigma Foveon sensor based cameras for a few years now. I've used the DP1x, a DP3 Merrill, and a DP2 Quattro. And now this UWA (Ultra Wide Angle) DP0 Quattro. The Quattro cameras all have a very high build quality and feel solid and nice in hand. So no worries on that. You are getting a quality build worthy of the price being asked.The first thing you need to know is that these are specialized cameras, not really very suitable for a lot of things. Although you can walk around and shoot a DP2Q or DP1x handheld and get good results, you soon learn that this will only be worthwhile on a bright, sunny day (unless you brought your tripod along). But they do open up an incredible world wherein you get some truly unique and mesmerizing images, highly detailed and with beautiful color. But you probably already know all of this if you are here looking at a DP0 Quattro.The thing with the DP0, is that it takes you even another step removed from "normal" photography by giving you an ultra wide angle lens to work with. Great for landscapes and vistas, and also for creative shooting, but definitely different and requiring more thought and planning to use effectively. The DP0's 21mm (equivalent) lens is very sharp across the board and has only the expected distortion, mild and easily controlled. It is an f4 as opposed to the f2.8 on the other DP Quattro models. This is offset, a little, by the fact that the lens is sharp even at f4, so you'll be fine shooting wide open.The DP0 handles pretty much like the DP2Q and the other Quattro cameras. Same menus and controls, which are simple and straightforward -- a real breath of fresh air. The controls are, in fact, excellent in my opinion. I can do everything I need quickly and easily and I did not have to study the manual for hours nor spend a lot of time setting options in menus and so forth. You have a nice Quick Menu with nearly everything you need, two control dials, and enough buttons for everything else. It's all very nice, well thought out, and works very well.The lens is huge by Quattro standards, but I still find the camera fairly easy to handle. I'm one who is fine with the unusual Quattro body design. I actually like it. No image stabilization, but I did not miss it much with this wide a lens.Flare can be a problem with a lens this wide and Foveon does not handle flare well, so you do have to be cautious there, although you can still use it creatively when the fancy strikes you. The tripod mount is centered and actually right on the plane of the sensor which is nice (helps if you want to use a rig and shoot multiple shots and stitch them). I also love the manual focus ring which works well (there is an AF MF setting for it as well).In short, it's very much like the other Quattro cameras, just coupled with that very wide and very sharp lens. You can read the pro reviews online for all the nitty-gritty details, but rest assured that you get with the DP0 the same quality as the other Quattro models. If wide is what you need, the DP0 delivers and with the Foveon image quality (and quirks) we have all come to know and love.So why only 4 stars and not 5? Well, you still have short battery life, unusable at higher ISO's (400 or 800 tops in color, 1600 in B&W), and Jpegs that while OK, aren't always as good as they should be. Thus you will have to shoot RAW many times and struggle with the infamous Sigma Pro Photo - which, to be fair, has much improved with version 6. But with care, the Jpegs can be acceptable.So, a superb ultra wide angle lens, a unique Foveon look. You decide if it's worth it. For me, it is, for many, maybe not so much. Sensors are much improved on other brands now, as well, so not as much of a gulf as there used to be when Foveon was first announced. Still, there aren't many rigs that can deliver what the DP0 Quattro offers at anywhere near this price. 4Excellent image qualityAs most have said, image quality is excellent and even more so now with the new firmware update that lets you shoot in SFD mode. With that said, the DP0 is, I feel, a specialty camera. It's very slow and the Sigma Photo Pro software that you must use to process the raw images is not on par with Adobe. You can though, output tiff's using the Sigma software and then open those files in Lightroom or ACR and make more adjustments. This does require more work and time, but the results are beautiful. Also, if you purchase one, test it out before committing. With the first one I got from another retailer, images were a little soft on the right side, a lens and sensor alignment issue, I returned it. The second one was great, no problems.I have been using the camera along with the LVF-01 LCD Viewfinder for almost a year now, shooting mostly architecture and if you can work with the limitations, I would highly recommend it. 5the image quality is just like Slide Film that s why I got hooked with SigmaI have been using a Sigma DP1 since 2008, the image quality is just like Slide Film that s why I got hooked with Sigma; since then, I have been own SD14, etc. finally I got the DP0 Q and SD Quattro too!This DP0 Q camera a lot faster compare to initial version DP1; but it s still slow compare to lately the Sony PS. Anyways, its fast enough to serve me! I like the image quality, and also can be shooting with a closed distance. I will use this camera for traveler with my Panasonic FZ1000, they re using the same battery. I would recommend this camera for landscape. 5Great Camera in its price rangeThe quality of the image is unparalleled in its price range. The deduction of one star is due to the tiny dust inside the lens (probably on the sensor) that leaves a blur spot (about a finger tip size) on the same position on each single picture I have taken.Have requested for a replacement order with Amazon. 4Great IQ, convoluted workflow due to software support (or lack of it)Love the image quality, not a fan of Sigma software. Wish Lightroom and Amazon supported RAW files. 4
