    Great stone i've used Shapton for the last 10 years ...Great stone i've used Shapton for the last 10 years and they're great, this particular one 500 cuts really fast doesn't leave scratches. Great stone for initial Cut and establishing the bevel 5This stone is awesome, BUTThis stone is awesome, BUT, it pretty much requires a diamond plate to level the surface between every four or five sharpenings. I did not realize this before purchase, and Shapton's diamond plate is $400. $55 for this stone is not a bad deal at all - it cuts super crazy fast, and for most of my projects I don't need sharpen past 500 grit anyway. I'm just bummed about how much more I have to spend to maintain this tool. 4500 Shapton works for me.I chose the 500 Shapton Glass stone to reduce deeper scratches than coarse sandpaper or diamond plate, it works well for me. 5Great Quality, Great Results, Fair PriceThe Shapton Glass series of stones has been phenomenal to use. I use a 500, 2000, and 8000.I ve reprofiled my Mora Companion HD and Tops BOB (starting with a 220 DMT Plate) to put them to a convex. 8000 puts a great mirror polish on.I just beat up my Tops BOB and new Cruwear Aurora to compare the steel. The BOB had some good nicks in the edge. 15 minutes wearing it down with 500, then 5 on the 2000, and another 5 on the 8000, it s beyond shave sharp.These wear down much more slowly than other stones (don t soak, just splash them). So, the price to life is probably about equal, but yields faster and better results.I don t recommend buying the accessories (sink bridge/holder, etc). They are crazy over priced. These stones though, exceptional, and well worth the price. 5Four Starsvery aggressive for initial sharpening 4Great StonesShapton glass stones are great. They are fast, easy to flatten, and easy to clean up. I can really tell the difference when sharpening modern super steels. They work well with old-school carbon steel knives, but I usually use my Chosera stones for that. Shapton Pro Stones are good also, but for the super steels, these glass stones are the way to go. 5Must have to reset remove imperfections and reset bevel angles ..for moving on to razor edgeFantastic fast cutting stone ..really sets up a foundation for moving on to finer stones ..easily removes even japanese very High Rockwell hard steel ..in a controlable and and fairly easy to maintain no soaking required stone ...best ive ever had in this course a stone 5Nothing comes close to ShaptonI own a small set of Shapton glass stones to sharpen Japanese kitchen knives. These are engineered stones that don't require soaking. They also take lots of metal off quickly - I can sharpen steel twice as fast than with other stones.I recommend that you also get a holder and lap plate.Shapton also makes a 2 times thicker 500 (since this is the most used stone ) that should last a lifetime... 5Great stone but be aware of what you're getting.The entire Shapton Glass series is great. This is a great grit for rebuilding an edge and I use it as part of a progression: 500 -> 1000 -> 4000.This stone is "splash and go" which means not having to deal with the hassle of soaking stones.This stone doesn't feel like traditional stones. This stone is very, very hard and doesn't give a lot of feedback. It's thin relative to other brands but it'll last as long if not longer. It's so hard it doesn't dish very much, you'll want a diamond stone to flatten it when you eventually need to. 5Fantastic stone! Buy it you wont be dissapointed!Trully an increadible product, worth every dollar, very impressed with how smooth and fast this stone works. 5
