    Worth The PriceI use this stone for honing chisels and plane irons. I use Rob Cosman's sharpening system without a jig most of the time and couldn't be happier. 5Scary sharp, not as overkill as you'd thinkYou might think that a 16k stone is overkill, but if you are a micro bevel guy like me with your planes and chisels, it'll leave you with a scary sharp edge. Make sure to pick up a trend diamond stone for honing and keeping this flat. Don't drop it, it has a glass backing. 5Ready to go right out of the box, just add a splash of water & its all good.Why i didn't get one of these years ago is beyond me. This Shapton glass is amazing. There is almost no need to strop a knife after just a few passes on each side of the knife and its just about polished up better than the beige 6000 grit polishing tapes I use on my EdgePro sharpener. 5Nice and flatWow I hope this lasts at this price. Nice and flat, sexy packaging, and does a great job to finish off right before final hone on a leather strop. 5a must have if your doing straight razors but you must have the 30k to follow otherwise just get a naniwa 12k super stonethis is the funkiest stone of all the shapton stones but still very useful. Iv read and experience that it causes more striations on the bevel than you would expect. the reason for this is that they tweaked the grit size with the 16k. most of the grit are 16k but a few larger grit particles are present so you can imagine a mirror finish with a few deep scratches here and there so its a must to get 30k to go along with it. 5AWESOME!I can't say enough good things about the Sharpton glass stones. The only downside is that once you use these you'll never want to use anything else again! 5Great finish hone for my straight razorsGreat finish hone for my straight razors. It only takes 6 to 8 light strokes to put a shave ready edge that just needs a light stropping on a razor. Keeping the stone flat isVERY important! 5Next Level Results with this StoneI'm a fairly skilled sharpener of my woodworking and wood turning tools. I like water stones and I had a 1000, 3000 and 8000 grit stones and I got great results with them.So I was a little hesitant to spend top dollar on a 16000 Stone.And so far it's the best money I've ever spent on sharpening stones.The iron on my Lie Nielsen Low Angle Jack Plane was in need of some touching up.So I turned it loose on the Shapton 16000 and I've achieved a level of sharpness that's considerably more keen than anything I've done previously - and my usual test for when it's sharp enough is when it easily shaves the hair off my forearm.Here are the main benefits in my opinion:1. Size. It's nice and wide which makes sharpening a 2" wide plane iron really easy. It's wider than my other stones and that extra width feels luxurious.2. Speed. I simply can't believe how fast this thing cuts the steel on my planes and chisels. It's noticably faster than any of my other stones.3. End result.As mentioned, I am now getting an edge that's not a little sharper, it's a LOT sharper. And I was never unsatisfied with my results before this. I just didn't know that this level of sharpness was even possible for an amateur woodworker like me.If you're on the fence about getting this, go ahead and do it. I seriously doubt you'll be disappointed. I sure wasn't. 5it's ok.It's a good stone and all but it came in cracked, after some use and cleaning the residue off and letting it air dry, there was a big cracked hairline.
