Customer Reviews

Does not work as needed, behaves erratically. At first the device worked just as needed after some initial plugging and unplugging finagling. But after each time you power off your devices, the next time you go to use them both signals only get 1080p. Even when I set my PS4 to YUV420, the splitter somehow manages to change the settings back to automatic. You can get it working properly again but not without unplugging everything and starting over every time you turn on your system.I'm going to try customer service and make sure it's not just something that's an easy fix. Will update review if resolved.2Plug 'n play for PC? I think not.I realize that this is just a generic device that is being re branded everywhere, but how are people using this for their computers? It works great with my consoles' outputs, but why is it that when I send a 4k signal to it from my computer it just craps out and doesn't know what to do? HDCP? I am assuming there is a problem with that. But when I plug it in and all I get is a split second "No Signal" icon every few seconds, I am just pissed. No, this is not an end all be all product. This is mainly for those with a verified signal source like a cable box or console, it should work perfect for that.3Works Great!I purchased this to upscale my PlayStation 2 in order to capture the video using the Elgato HD60 S capture device. The Elgato device does not deal well with a 480i signal.5Works for downscaling on an old hdtvMy tv doesn't have overscan settings and I got fed up of cut off subtitles and cropped screen overall from videos. My uncle owned it and it was one of those 1366x768 tvs. It's an over a decade old sony that he gave my family in '11. Sucks that this sony might have been a budget one since it doesn't have overscan options, and bravias aren't simple tvs. I'm just happy it even lasted this long. Anyways, I use the scaler for chromecast(ultra) and what a relief. All I needed was an hdmi cable, nothing special, just a recent cable from Walmart. Probably not gonna have the most perfect quality because it has to transcode and all that and the chromecast will not directly hook up to the TV. However, I feel pretty satisfied about the quality. There's good sound and pretty good coloring. There is a tiny bit noise that isn't really bothersome. And most off all, I can see the wide scope of any videos on YouTube. There is a resolution button on the back, only two levels work for me:720p and 1080p output with both 1080p input(chromecast). There is a zoom button that can zoom five times from wide scope, to cropped view. There's also a hdmi/dvi button where the dvi won't output audio through the hdmi cable. It can manage temps well without being too warm. And the only other thing included is the dc connector. Good stuff.5like the "no station static" from an analog TV Have only tested it, but it worked. I had tried a 1 x4 by from Monoprice (same specs) which did not work in the same configuration. The only issue that I had (which is why 4 stars vs 5) was after playing content from Plex from my PC (which was my HDMI test source) when I went back to the windows screen the TV went to all noise, like the "no station static" from an analog TV. I had to unplug the HDMI source cable and plug it back in to get rid of the noise. I can't explain what happened, but I assume it has something to do with the copy protection with HDMI. Not reproducible during my limited tests, so fingers crossed when installed to my home theater. It would be a pain to have to unplug and plug it once installed. The rest of it has a solid feel. 4You Cannot Mix 4k 60hz 2.2 HDCP devices with non 4k 60hz devices- signal will default to lowest common denominatorI currently have 4 displays and I wanted to use my PS4 Pro on all of them depending on various situations without having to constantly switch HDMI cables, plug and unplug. 2 of the displays handles full 4k at 60hz and is HDCP 2.2 enabled. One of the displays is just 1080p, and the last one can handle 2.0 but does not have the latest 2.2 HDCP standard. When all of the devices are hooked up, the splitter will only sent a 1080p signal (even to my fully capable 4k display). However, the splitter works perfectly if only the full 4k 60hz displays are hooked up. This defeats the purpose of my purchase as I have to plug and unplug still. However, I don't blame the maker of the product fully. Because of the strict 2.2 HDCP standards, it only makes sense that the signal must handshake with all of the devices that are connected to complete the circuit and enable the signal. If anything on the other end isn't compliant, it will default to the lowest setting. So for all of the other reviewers that are complaining that the product doesn't work- it actually does work. It's the way that 2.2 handles the signal that will prohibit the product from fully doing its job and perhaps there is a non 4k 60hz 2.2 device in your chain. My hope is that they make a "switch" instead of a "splitter" like that have for 4x1 type products (as opposed to 1 in 4 out). Hopefully this information will help people make a more informed decision. Honestly they should put this info in the description so they can prevent so many frustrated purchasers.3Dreamcast + Pound HD Cable + Upscaler + Capture Card = HappinessTLDR: Acquired this for Dreamcast + Pound HD Cable usage. Can stream Dreamcast Games through OBS with an Elgato Capture HD.For those whom want more details, continue reading. As an enthusiast of older game consoles, I enjoy being out to stream anything I play to Twitch. The Sega Dreamcast is a fussy device when it comes to easily doing this. I acquired the Pound HD Cable for the Dreamcast in hopes to get output through the HDMI port on my TV. When plugged in directly to the TV, it did output video feed. Once I added the Elgato Capture HD card into the mix, I couldn't get OBS to output the proper feed. This disappointed me, so I continued the search for a solution. There are a plethora of options out there to get output through capture devices, but 95% of those options are far to expensive. This lead me here to the Sewell Echo Upscaler / Downscaler. I had no idea if this option would function for the purpose I wanted, but the price seemed affordable, so I took a $70 plunge into the unknown. After the initial hook up, which goes something like, Dreamcast + Pound HD Cable + Echo Upscaler + TV, the output on the TV shown was 720p. This data excited me. I then introduced the Elgato Capture HD between the Pound HD Cable and the Echo Upscaler and turned on the Dreamcast. After seeing the Dreamcast logo show up on OBS, I was giddy. I finally found an affordable solution to streaming the Dreamcast onto Twitch. In conclusion, if you are a Sega Dreamcast owner and don't want to spend hundreds of dollars to be able to stream, I implore you to look at this device.Thank you Sewell for providing something like this to the market.MrGrumpyMonkey4Splits HDMI Perfectly!I have a 4K in the living room, but wanted to split the signal from the cable box to another TV. Most splitters just set the resolution to the lowest device. The EchoSplit keeps the 4K signal on one port and sets 1080 on the second. The device is small and takes up very little space in my media cabinet. I did contact Sewell with a question on how the device operated and they answered it very quickly. I have used Sewell equipment in the past and they provide quality equipment with great support.570 dollar paper weight, unhelpful tech supportitem I received was a sewell echo. I ordered v2, but there is nothing indicating that is what I received, certainly nothing on the item, packing or instructions to indicate a second generation item. also, no tamper proof packing, no idea if I received a dead unit, or a used unit. i hooked up according to directions and played with the buttons--but there is nothing to indicate what mode you are in, or if the buttons even do anything. the screen the echo was feeding to a 1080p screen, shows "invalid format". I contacted sewell technical support, who were snooty and unhelpful. will return. will use the much cheaper one "different brand" that worked. 70 dollar paperweight.1It doesn't do the scenario they're selling it forUPDATE: Sewell reached out and asked for specifics regarding my review. I appreciate the follow up. I have a VIZIO P702UI-B3 model TV. I have a Denon AVR-X1100W receiver. I have an Nvidia SHIELD going into the Denon and coming out to the splitter. The SHIELD produces a 4k signal, which I want to see on my 4k TV. The second port was connected to an HDMI to composite adapter, which fed into a USB capture device plugged into a Raspberry Pi which powers some LEDs wrapped around my TV. A previous HDMI splitter I've used for 3 years (it failed, which prompted this purchase) reduced the signal to 1080p and send it to both outputs fine. I wanted my 4k picture on the TV but 1080p going to the adapter, because it can't receive a 4k signal. I don't know the exactly order I had to power things up and plug them in to get it to work. What I am looking for is something I can turn on which will send 4k down one output and 1080p down the other. This doesn't do that, although the description markets it as such, which is why I returned it. I have purchased other Sewell Direct products and had great experiences. Good company, good products.Similar experience to other reviewer. I purchased for the scenario described. I need a 4k feed to go 4k to my TV but 1080p to a secondary display. It doesn't work unless you plug things in in a certain order and power them up in a certain order. In 10 tries, I got it to negotiate the resolution correctly once. Every other time both displays would go 720p or one would do 4k and send nothing to the other, etc. No good.2After running 7 cables from this box to different 4K ... After running 7 cables from this box to different 4K HDR TVs, I found out it does not in fact pass through HDR10 or Dolby Vision. I ran the source which was a Sony X800 4K player directly to each model and the player is in fact sending out the HDR10 format, the splitter was just bottle necking it. It did however send the HDR signal that a HDR Blu Ray was playing, so the TVs would default to that color space (BT.2020), but it was trying to spread out the DCIP3 color space it was in fact getting into HDR, leaving the color tones all out of whack when displayed. I went through the troubleshooting steps to no avail. Just a heads up, if you want to pass HDR10, this will not support it on Sony, Samsung, or LG TVs. 1Unlike prior Sewell Splitters, this one Blinks when Displays turn On and Off! Dissapointing. We have been using Sewell products for a very long time, and we have always been very happy with them overall. Generally the only real weakness to Sewell HDMI splitters is that the output ports are a bit under powered, which causes longer runs to suffer blinks at times, but this is a general challenge with most if not all splitters. We had high hopes for this 4K splitter as it seems to be the best value on the market right now for full QHD splitters, however after less than one hour using this splitter, we pulled it out of production due to one glaringly obvious weakness. Everytime you turn any single Display (TV) on or off, all other displays blink off for a couple seconds before coming back on. This is regardless of the type or capability of the display as we have over a dozen different displays we tested with. Furthermore, this splitter, unlike prior Sewell products, is not capable of sending a signal over certain directional cables, even at a lower 1080p resolution, when all prior Sewell splitters work on those cables without challenge. Bummer. The blinking is the obvious non-starter. Here is hoping Sewell figures this out.2
