Customer Reviews

Effective!I got this with the sole purchase of keeping our knives and scissors sharp. We have used other sharpeners in the past that don t seem to sharp as nicely or quickly as we would like. This block has made sharpening our knives quicker than usual. It s easy to use because it is long yet a fairly skinny, so you can get a good grip on the block. There s also a case that it fits perfectly into, allowing you to store this block in any drawer or cabinet. My husband has several different pocket knives and we have expensive itches knives that we have all tested with this block and all knives have sharpened just fine with it. We brought it over to my parents house and because my parents are always complaining that their knifes are so dull. My dad sharpened all of his knives quickly. He was very impressed. The only downside is the block scratched some of his knives. I m not sure if he was holding it wrong or what. But I figured I d make a note of that, just in case someone wants this sharpener but needs their sharp tools to remain in mint condition. I think if you need a sharpener for your household knives or tools, this block will do the job!5Great sharpening tool! This particular whetstone is quite heavy yet a compact and manageable size of 8" in length. Both sides of it have grit like sandpaper to properly aide in sharpening your knives and tools. I have used this to sharpen my pocket knives and dull kitchen chefs knives. It also was really nice to sharpen my steak knives that weren't serrated. If you haven't used one before all you need to do is lightly dampen the side that you are using and carefully work the entire blade along it. I learned from my Boyscout manual and leaders growing up but if you're looking for diagrams or better examples a quick search online will turn up lots of helpful tips, photos and videos! :)5Good stone for sharpening tools.Does the job it is supposed to do at a very reasonable price. Good value.5It would be better if it were offered in a standard size so ...This stone works okay. It would be better if it were offered in a standard size so I could work it into my sharpening setups.3Needed for when you have no edgeI volunteered to sharpen a friend's set of knives and when I got a chance to see them there was hardly any edge to them at all. I did sharpen a knife with a 400 stone but it took forever. I got this to do my initial edge. It arrived in tact within the blue case. The case does not have an anti-slip bottom but I set it atop a silicone trivet and it started in place. I soaked the stone in water for an hour or so and used honing oil once removed from water. After a few rounds of passes on the rougher side I had the beginnings of an edge. Flipping the stone over to the smoother helped me actually get an edge. At this point I could cut things with the knife. However, I did have to go over to my 400/800 stone to continue and get a nice, fine edge. If I was sharpening my hatchet or maybe a lawnmower blade, this stone alone would probably do the job. For the price I'm glad I got it. I won't use it much except when I need to actually start the edge on a blank or very dull knives.5Home chef and gardener enjoying this stone!I am an avid Gardener and Chef. I used the finer side of the stone to sharper my Henkels and Japanese steel knives. I went old school and wet the tone and started fine tuning the blade. It was amazing, I am now going to save trooping over to the knife guy and keep my kitchen knives sharp with this. I had a 30 year old, single grit stone that I have been using for probably 30 years and this stone is light years advance to the old grey stone I had.I used the rougher grit side to hone down some small nicks in the blades of my Felco garden shears and although trickier due the shape of the blades, with some help from a few YouTube videos, I figured out how to significantly improve the nicks and then get the blades nice and sharp going a 2nd round using the finer grit side. The case is a heavy plastic which holds the stone securely but not attractive. For the price, a really excellent product and i am very happy with being able to sharpen my kitchens knives and garden hand shears quickly and easily. Recommended product.5Joy's Thoughts: One of those items you will find you use consistently The one I received to try was a 180/240We did use it dry and wet both workedI used this on some older hedge sheers and saved myself money by not having to replaceUsed the coarse side to remove the nicks and then flipped the stone to give me the sharp edge I neededSharpened the kitchen knifes quickly and efficientlyIt comes with a case but I will recommend using a different way to contain the stonethe case is plastic and cracks easily under the weight of the stoneit also does not have a nonstick bottom so it will slideThis worked wonders on my kitchen knives and utility shearsMy son used it for his hunting knives and to sharpen his pocket knivesIt is one of those items that is worth investing in and that you will find you are always using4Item not as statedListing says 120 & 240 grit. What I got was 240 & 1000 grit.Item works well all the same.Good item!4Not a flat surface.Be warned this item is likely severely bow shaped and not suitable for flattening.3Good stone for repair workThis stone is too rough to do normal sharpening on knives; this is by design of course, if you want something for normal knife sharpening/maintenance you'll want something with a much finer grit. I use a 1000/6000 combination stone for this purpose. This stone is what you'll want to use for repairs where you'll be shaving off a lot more metal, or sharpening something that does not need as fine an edge. There's nothing wrong with the stone itself except maybe its size -- it's slightly narrower than the standard width, making it somewhat less convenient to use to flatten other stones. The packaging was a bit of a mess, too. It comes in a plastic shell, which was shattered when I received it. I just threw it out because it was useless in that condition.4
