Do not buy this product to use with a Mac.It's hard to believe that this is an "Amazon's Choice" product. I was trying to use this to dock a Macbook Air to a monitor, printer, keyboard, and mouse. The set-up was clunky, but I eventually got it to work. However, once it was synced with the monitor, the screen image quality was pixilated and poor. There was significant lag between keyboard and mouse inputs and outcomes on the screen. And certain windows would go dark. Also, the menu bar was blanked out and couldn't be seen unless you clicked on it.What a piece of garbage! Do not buy to use with an Mac.1Just a USB Hub & NOT a charging dock!Not sure if I'm becoming technologically old, known to me a docking station would supply power to laptop, power up the laptop without opening it ( part 1) and transfer video / audio / data to Monitor, Speaker & other peripherals (part 2)But this device does only part 2 and does not do teh part 1 as described. The product seller should call this out explicity else, you will only see more product returns than using your product.Also this Hub consumes lot of compute resources. My laptop was running really slow when I connected this though USB3 port. Now I returned and replaced it with Dell WD15 and my laptop works super fast with Dell WD15 Dock.Another important aspect is with Sabrent doc, your laptop should be opened and power on to operate, where as in Dell WD15, your laptop boots up even when the laptop screen is closed! So I wouldn't recommend this product for those who are used to work in Traditional Laptop Docs where we just connect the plug ( without opening the laptop) and your machine running & operating!2Not good for blue tooth mouse/keyboardWorks well for the most part, but it does not do very well with a blue tooth keyboard/mouse set up (I've tried two types, both new). The connection is laggy, regardless of the input I use. Given it's advertised as being able to work with a Surface (which has only the one USB input - taken up by the USB connection for the docking station), this presents pretty significant issues unless I want to continue to utilize the keyboard and mouse that are connected to the Surface... in which case, why do I need a docking station?3Probably great for many though not Surface Pro 6I bought this docking station/hub to be used with a new Surface Pro 6. That would enable me to use a wireless mouse and wireless keyboard with the Surface and a standard sized monitor. My Surface would then convert into a desktop PC and since I have the memory and processing speed of a PC, all would be fine. All functions worked except the monitor. With the monitor I got 2.5" vertical bars on the left and right sides of the screen instead of a full-screen projection. There is no setting on the Surface for converting the image to full screen. It's supposed to do this by default. I tried two other monitors with exactly the same result. After numerous conversations with Microsoft, it is my understanding that the problem is due to the monitors--only certain monitors will work with the Surface Pro 6. However one of my monitors was on their approved list. The other two were not. But the one on the approved list did not work as it should. So much for the Microsoft hardware and software. The fault might lie with Microsoft or this hub/docking station or with the monitors. This device might be perfect for other tablets and related devices but be very careful if you own a Surface Pro 6 as it will probably not work properly, even if you have an approved monitor.410 stars !!!!!!!!!!I had ordered this product on 28 May 2016 with mountain-high hopes and expectations. I had my fingers crossed and hoped like crazy for this docking station to work as expected. Even though I am an amazon prime member (2-day shipping), I got this product only today (2 June 2016) because of the long weekend. Every passing day felt like an year !!This dock is indeed THE answer to what I have been looking for, for the last 16 months !!I use two laptops on a daily basis -- A macbook pro which is my personal laptop and a Dell laptop (win 7) which is my work laptop. In my house, I have a 3 display setup (3 Acer H226HQL 21.5-Inch Widescreen LCD Monitors) with wireless keyboard and mouse. I want to use this setup with both my laptops. But, plugging and unplugging from one laptop to another more than once per day turned out to be quite painful. Moreover, it damages the ports in the laptops. There is a device available in amazon which acts like a hub where the two laptops and the 3 displays can be connected to the hub. Using a knob in this hub, one can select from which laptop the 3 displays should get their signals from. But, the cost of this device was more than $300. The cost did not convince me to buy that hub. Moreover, this hub will make my laptops less portable due to all those cables connected to the ports. I wanted something which is as easy as plugging & unplugging a USB drive into my laptop. And this Sabrent USB 3.0 Universal docking station does exactly that.To this docking station, I have connected one display via HDMI and another via DVI. For the third display, I use a USB HDMI-DVI adapter (Display Link) and connected it to USB 3.0 port in the docking station. With my laptop closed, I have three working displays. With the laptop open, then there are 4 displays including the laptop display.These 3 displays have 1920x1080 resolution. There is NO drop in resolution in either windows or mac. Well, for mac there is a slight drop in resolution but that is bec mac has retina display whose resolution is way higher than the ones supported in these displays. So, definitely NOT the docking station's fault or shortcoming. I have connected a Satechi headphone stand that has a built-in USB hub (3 USB ports -- USB 3.0) to this sabrent docking station. I have connected the logitech unifying receiver to this satechi headphone stand cum USB hub, for connecting my wireless keyboard and mouse. There is NO lag in either the keyboard entries or in the mouse pointer movements.I am not a gamer, so I do not have an input on that aspect. However, for working purposes, watching movies and so on, this docking station has NO issues or complaints.The quality of the docking station, i.e., the build and finish are also very good. The tablet/phone slot has a rubber seating which gives it a good grip and prevents the devices from sliding out.I have never been more satisfied with a product and hence the reason why I want to give this product 10 stars instead of 5 !This is the longest & most detailed review that I have ever written. I have also attached a couple of pics of my setup for reference -- Again, this is a first for me. Did this only because I am truly happy with this product.I will keep monitoring this product very closely. Even if there is a flicker of lag in performance, it will catch my eye. In that case, I will definitely update my review. But, until then, my verdict is that "Sabrent USB 3.0 Universal Docking Station" is simply awesome and affordable.UPDATE: 10 June 2016Have been using this dock for the last 8 days now. I have had no troubles when using with Windows 7. Works beautifully without any pixelation (no loss in resolution) and no lags. Saw movies as well. It s great.For Macbook Bad news !! .. Too many places where I observe lags. To be fair, the lag is only during animations like when launching the Launchpad where it s buttery smooth in the macbook, but when viewed via displays connected to this dock, it s super choppy.However, NO lags observed when I saw movies or videos or while typing or browsing. So far, only a few animations were stuttering.With regards to resolution, as mentioned above, I use Acer displays whose resolution is lesser than the retina display. So, in addition to that drop in resolution that you get to see in my displays, I see a further drop in resolution but only slightly. So far, I did not find this as a deal breaker.So yeah, in a nutshell, with all the shortcomings mentioned above, I still find this a worthy buy rather than spend $400 plus on horizontal Henge docks which will give me the same number of ports !5Great docking station for Microsoft Surface 4 Core M deviceTitle: I wavered between the Plugable UD-3900, the competing Trendnet docking station, and the Microsoft Dock. I was concerned that my Core-M processor would not have enough processing capability to power a USB 3.0 dock, and I had decided to go for the Microsoft Dock, which many reviewers said was the right choice for the Surface product line. This Sabrent USB 3.0 model showed up in an Amazon flash deal, and along with the perfect form factor it offered, I took a chance.I made the right choice. For one thing, I didn't know where I would stash my Surface once I connected it to a docking station with two monitors. With the Sabrent, I just have my Surface sitting in the slot (in its Kensington Blackbelt case but with Type Cover off) and I've effectively got a three monitor setup (though I don't use the Surface monitor that much, due to its higher pixel density compared to my connected 24" and 19" monitors). For my setup, I needed 8 1/2" vertical clearance, so I have my 24" monitor mounted on the wall, with the Sabrent/Surface pushed underneath, clearing up a lot of desk space.The Surface 4 comes with a mini displaylink port, and I bought a displaylink monitor anticipating I'd be using various displaylink cables and active adapters and daisychaining my monitors, but my planning was unnecessary. The USB 3.0 port on the Surface 4 connecting to the Sabrent was all I needed; I may never use the mini displaylink port on my Surface 4. After installing the Sabrent drivers, I was directed to go to the updated drivers at the displaylink site. Besides the correct drivers, they also have a link to an optional utility "Actual Multiple Monitors", which is trialware. I installed Actual Multiple Monitors and my two extra displays became one extra display. Maybe I could have corrected it, but I hadn't intended to purchase software when setting up my Sabrent. I uninstalled it and was able to use my license for "Ultramon" which I already owned for my 32 bit Windows 7 PC and update it to 64-bit Windows 10 for free. (There is other multiple monitor software out there, some of it free, I happened to already own UltaMon). Chances are, you can get full multiple monitor flexibility just by working with Windows 10 settings, but I didn't have to). Once set up, I can remove the Surface for portable computing, and either the Surface and/or the Sabrent will remember the monitor settings once I reconnect my Surface 4 to the dock.The form factor (with the notch on which rests my Surface 4) is ideal for a 2-in-1 tablet/laptop; specifically, for a Surface. The compactness of the dock comes with a price - it can get pretty cramped inserting up to six USB plugs bunched together. There's two USB3.0 plugs, two regular USB2 plugs, and two powered USB plugs that are good only for powering cell phones and devices; they don't provide a connection to the PC (they do charge my cell phone more rapidly than any other chargers I own). Up to two monitors can connect through the DVI and HDMI ports. Also has an Ethernet port, though my setup works fine wi-fi only.In sum, completely satisfied. Feeling fortunate, as the Sabrent USB3.0 docking station hadn't come up in any of my Amazon searches, only discovered it because it came up in a lightning deal.5A must for the legacy Surface Pro owner!Basically this docking station works by applying software that allows the USB port to become a multi-function single-point connection.So basically the docking station has its own power supply, but connects to your tablet via USB port. A plug and play install followed by a quick website software download/install has you ready to use all connections pictured at the back of the docking station.So hdmi (with minidisplay port unused), hard-line internet, USB ports for both pc connection and charging only, essentially turn my Pro 3 into a desktop station that happens to use my 51in smart TV for a monitor and a folding portable keyboard plus arc mouse let me run it all from bed when my back hurts to badly to sit upright.5Doesn't work like its supposed to.Okay, so before buying this I noticed in the description and on Display Link's website that there are serious issues with using this doc on a Mac with OS High Sierra, but they said there was a version of DisplayLink's software that would help it. I ended up trying it out and hoping it would work, but it failed miserably.To even get the device to use Airplay is a nightmare. Airplay would not recognize the DisplayLink software even though I allowed it in Security and Privacy settings and enabled Full Control of the computer to the DisplayLink software in Accessibility. I had to uninstall and reinstall the software 6 times before it eventually recognized Display Link dock as an airplay device. This constantly happens once I unplug the computer.Along with this, the delay on a usb dongle bluetooth reciter for a wireless keyboard (Logitech) is horrendous. The lag is well over 3-4 seconds and not even worth typing anything at that point. The device Didn't even recognize my DVI - DP cable even though it works from device to device without any problems. I had to use an HDMI cable to HDMI to get the dock to work properly. Why have the option of a DVI input if it doesn't even work? I can't even close the lid of my computer without the connection disconnecting (yes its plugged into power). The entire point of any dock is so that you are able to use the existing LCD screen on a computer as a secondary screen, or close the lid (clam mode) and just use external displays.The dock seemed very promising. I understand that its "Apple's fault" for their new software screwing up the connection to the computer, but it's just pointless to hang onto until Mojave comes out at this point. I was even told by a Sabrent employee to "reach out to apple" myself to see if there was anything that could be done so that I may close my lid, even though it's their product and they want to sell it.I would wait to buy this for sure, unless you have a different OS compared to High Sierra.1This is the charging USB-C dock you've been waiting for!Our business has been switching to USB-C laptops for 2-3 years now; and, although the promise is there for a great docking experience, there just weren't any good docks on the market.Anyone who has struggled to get one of the Dell docks working knows what I'm talking about.This USB-C charging dock from Sabrent appears to change that - mostly because it just works.Here are the things I like about mine:- As I already mentioned, it just works. With Windows 10, I plugged it in, the OS detected drivers, and I haven't had to do anything else. The function has been truly flawless.- I'm running it with a Dell Precision laptop and a single 43" 4K monitor with no issues.- It has all the required ports; although, there are a couple more I would ask for if I were designing it myself. (More on this below.)- There are currently 3 models on this product page, so the reviews are confusing about whether it supports charging. The Triple Display USB-C dock DOES support charging an attached device.- Performance is very good.This dock definitely deserves 5 stars when compared to other products on the market, but there are still a couple of things to keep in mind:- This model does support charging, but only at 60W. I haven't run into any issues as a software developer using a Dell Precision laptop - but Windows shows a little yellow icon on the power display indicating that the charger is under-powered. You may require a secondary power adapter if you're doing something that causes a consistently higher power draw (in my case, the charge will drop a bit if I'm doing a lot of compiling - but goes back up quickly).- If I had the opportunity to layout my own ports on this dock, I would switch one of the DisplayPort connectors for a mini-DisplayPort instead. In addition, I would put more USB ports on the front of the dock, even if I had to sacrifice a couple on the back.We have 2 of these in the office now, and they're both working flawlessly; so we're going to start switching everybody over to them.If you're looking for a charging USB-C dock, then this is the best one I've used - and we've tried at least half a dozen different models.5Great product, very happy I bought it!I have it set up with my Microsoft Surface Windows 10 and my Linux laptop running Ubuntu 18.4. The setup was easy: it was plug-and-play with Win10, but I updated to the latest drivers from the displaylink website as per the instructions. For Ubuntu I had to install the dkms package before installing the latest driver from the website and it was smooth sailing after that. I did have an issue with my Logitech wireless keyboard (laggy, disconnects), but I figured it was just some wireless interference, so I used an old 3ft USB extension cable to place the dongle away from the unit, and the issue was resolved -- it's working fine now. My two monitors, network, and external drives all worked without issues.5
