Affordable, solid, nice look & feel keyboard, but inconsistently stiff keys I purchased this keyboard as a cheaper alternative to the "Razer DeathStalker Essential Gaming Keyboard" (they seem very similar in looks with its low profile, chiclet style keys) . I like the variable backlight colors and it actually feels sturdy with minimal flex which was a pleasant surprise for a keyboard at this price! I can use it on my lap when gaming out in the living room and works quite well for first person shooters. Braided cable is a nice touch. Awesome. However!! ...there's always a catch, isn't there.The keys are stiff - it takes considerable more pressure to actuate the keys than what I'm used to. Now that's something you can eventually adapt to - the problem is, some keys, especially the horizontally longer keys to the right of the keyboard, such as the 'backspace', need more pressure than others, especially if you press the key off-angle and not right in the center (perhaps a little bit of binding is at play). So while touch typing, this can be aggravating when a key press didn't register because you didn't press it hard enough despite using the same pressure as the other keys.So in conclusion, great for FPS gaming (where your hand is over the WASD, shift and spacebar) but not so much when you're typing away. I still think it's an overall decent value given the low price, but it could be a 5 star product if it weren't for that inconsistency. I've noticed other reviews have noted similar issues so just add me to that list.Update: The backspace started to become more and more problematic with its binding, sometimes not working even after pressing it again, harder! Returning this to Amazon and lowering it to 2 stars vs 3. 2A mixed bag, but a great bargain. This is a review made entirely from my initial impressions, and I will update it later if I have more to add.I should start by saying that with the feature set limitations, and the love I have of my unusable for gaming K740, there was almost no chance I could ever give this a 5 star rating.For the price this is a pretty amazing feeling keyboard. The plastic is pleasant to the touch, and the quality feels quite nice. The keys are very responsive and have an incredibly low travel, so if you're looking for a gaming keyboard that is slim and affordable, this is a good choice. I've found nothing truly bad to say about the hardware so far, there's something about the feel of the space bar that I'm just not in love with, and the switches are rubber dome, I find them far less pleasant to press than the scissor switch keys of my K740, but they aren't bad.Aesthetically the keyboard is a bit of a mixed bag. for a keyboard that allows you to select a backlight color, I hate that it comes with a bright red sticker, and not liking the red cord. It feels like it's trying to force you to choose red, which I'm not personally a fan of. The num lock sticker looks hideous. With this said, both the stripe and the numlock stickers can be removed, and don't really leave the keyboard looking any less attractive when you do. In fact I quite like the look without the stripe, and under the sticker there is a far more attractive set of icons for the lock lights, engraved in the plastic.Sadly however the lock lights are again, forced red, and they're incredibly bright. I put a bit of polydogh into them the heavily dim the light. There is no scroll lock light, rather there is a win lock light (function+win). I have no idea the function of this lock.There are no special function gaming function keys, and no dedicated media keys. The right win and the menu key have been replaced with a function key, and a light color key. I hate the placement of both of these -- function is traditionally on the left if added, and I don't like a light control key being within the main section of the keyboard.The lighting brightness and hue are inconsistent, there are ugly lines in the bottoms of the left hand keys, all of these keys with lines were printed slightly off axis causing a clockwise shift of a few degrees. I do not in any way like the symbols under QWASD, nor do I like the WASD written on the arrow keys. Also the lighting on the space key is very flakey.I found the tilt with the feet to be inadequate, and ended up having to raise the back of the keyboard using polydogh.So to sum it all up:PROSVery cheap.Pleasing materialDecent key responseCONSNo dedicated media or gaming keysFew featuresForced red aestheticUgly stickersPoor key printingStrange aesthetic choicesDue to the incredibly low price and the lack of any competition in the market of chiclet keyboards that are slim, decent key rollover, not purposely gimped to prevent gaming, and not mechanical; it get's a 4*. I may still spring for the steelcase 350 or the death stalker chroma, however in the mean time this is a wonderful change from the corsair strafe rgb I'd made the mistake of buying, and unlike the K740 I can use it to game. 4Keys feel cheap, still not a terrible keyboard. I was looking for a cheaper alternative to the other expensive gaming keyboards I see all the time and I found this one after I made a purchase of the Redragon Perdition gaming mouse(which is great btw). I really took a chance with this keyboard because it had no reviews when I bought it so I do not wish to be too critical on it, especially since it is only $30.The Back-lighting- The back lighting on this keyboard is very good. It is my first backlit keyboard and can say they did a great job on this end. There are 7 colors(as the info on the product says): Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, Light blue(like a Cyan shade), Purple, and white. You can switch between all of them very easily at the press of a button, change their brightness level, turn them off completely or have the keyboard pulse through each color. 5/5 in this department.Features- This keyboard came with a few features that are worth noting:1)You can lock the Windows key so that you don't accidentally press it while gaming,2) the option to switch the functions of the arrow keys with WASD, so if you prefer to have your WASD where the arrows keys are placed then this is useful,3) a response speed option, basically you hit the function button and the Q key which has little fast forward arrows (>>) it works well enough as it clearly speeds up the response time of the keys while you are typing or holding a key, but i noticed it is not compatible with every game. An example of this when I was playing Terraria and I would hold down the D key to move right, but I would move a few feet and then stop, then move, then stop, etc. so it's not perfect.4) The media keys. I am not going to list all of them, but you have what you would expect, like volume controls and music controls. They work, not much more I can say about them.5) The wrist rest built into the keyboard is nice and give you plenty of room to rest your wrists.The keys/layout- The keys themselves are set up like a laptop, so "chiclet" style with a nice rough texture that makes them easier to grip and have slight spaces between them. I generally prefer this type of keyboard, but this is actually where the negative parts of the keyboard come in...It is actually kind of difficult to tell if you are actually pushing the keys down since they have very little springback or the like. I mean my laptop has a satisfying click when I hit the keys and are not hard to press at all. In fact, as I am typing this review I am growing increasingly annoyed by how cheap the keys feel to press. Especially the spacebar, the spacebar is the worst key on the whole keyboard as it is the most difficult to press and sometimes doesn't even depress at all thus is will not register thatIam(I am leaving this typo because this is a problem that is more than a little annoying) actually hitting the spacebar at all (this could be a problem I am having with just my keyboard). But I digress, the keyboard is only $30 after all.Onto the layout. If you can't tell from the pictures, the keys are set up just a little different than normal, namely the enter key, because it is shaped like an "upside-down L."I will conclude with a list of pros and cons for those that don't wish to read the entire review:Pros:-It's $30-Back-lighting is great, with several color options-Built-in wrist rest-Braided cord prevents tangling and has velcro for cable management-Good key-gripCons:-Keyboard layout takes some time to get used to-Keys feel cheap and are difficult to pressAll in all, I am not disappointed with this purchase, like I said, I took a chance and I didn't expect the highest quality for $30. Really the only fault I can say I found with this keyboard is the quality of the keys themselves, while it doesn't make the keyboard unusable, the keys could do with improvement. 4Great keyboard for the price. I wasn't sure if this keyboard was going to be very good because of its cheap price point, but I really like it. I just bought it because I wanted a red backlight and it was one of the least expensive options, but I have been pleasantly surprised with just how good it is. The only complaints I would have are the glowing logo at the bottom is a little much, but it was still the least gaudy of all the keyboards I was looking at the only other thing is that the space bar is a little squeaky, but really only noticeable in a super quiet environment. Any time I was playing a game I couldn't hear it anymore.I was a little worried after reading some reviews about keys sticking, but this hasn't been an issue for me after about a month of daily use. I'm glad I bought this keyboard. 5Is p neat, except for the spacebar and backspace LEDs Pros:- Supergreat price- The green LED is superb, v v ince- Keys are essentially silent, would recommend for ninjas- All keys function, including media/F keys- There's a dragon on it that lights up how cool is that?? Answer: SUPREMELY- Cord is braided, allowing for neat look and texture, as well as friction-free movement across wood, corners of desk, etc. [now if only my Anker ergonomic mouse was the same way]- THERE'S A GOT-DANG CALCULATOR BUTTON, WHO THOUGHT OF THAT?? TAKE THAT, STATS HOMEWORK!Meh:- Enter key takes a bit to get used to- Typing in general is a bit odd because rubber keys, but ya get used to it- Spacebar doesn't always feel like it's being keyed- 'Off' is one of the brightness levels, though the highest level is perfect imo- Caps/Num/Win Lock lights are red and can't be modified in any way - in a way that's kindof a plus though, since you can see what's locked and what isn't without having to actual look at that sector of the keyboard. So I guess this line is superfluousCons:- Spacebar and Backspace keys aren't fully lit [see pics]- Would return for a hassle-free replacement, but then I'd be without a keyboard for several days :| 3Has the potential to be great, but... When I first opened the box I thought the keyboard was great. It felt good in the hands, the LEDs were nice and bright, and it looked absolutely stunning.Unfortunately though, the amazement didn't last long.As I started my thorough examination, I realized that my keyboard wasn't fully lit in certain areas, and the space bar doesn't work if you hit it on the outer edges. And the cherry on top, my question mark key was upside down. I'm pretty disappointed by the lack of attention to detail. This could be an awesome keyboard, but these mistakes turn me off.Honestly though, it's not all bad. The keys are quiet and I like the interesting features such as the color changing LEDs and the windows lock key, but the mistakes are too large to overlook.If you can spend a little more money, I'd certainly reccomend searching around more. 2GREAT Quality - If You're on a Budget, GO FOR IT! FIRST IMPRESSION:So I received this in the mail an hour ago, and I'm giving you guys my first impression of the keyboard, not after days or weeks or months of use.- The keys are a little mushy and I feel like I'm not typing nearly as fast as I usually can because I have to use more effort to hit the keys. The traveling distance is about 3-4 millimeters, which may be slightly more than what you're used to as well.- The keys and the Redragon logo have little LED lights underneath them, but they aren't very bright. I prefer to keep the lights off.- This keyboard is extremely quiet. I wouldn't say it's silent, but it's definitely a lot quieter than most rubber dome keyboards. Depending on the kind of desk you have, putting a rubber mat (like a mouse pad) underneath the keyboard will make your typing a lot quieter than when the keyboard is directly on your desk.- The keys are removable, but they aren't really easy to pry off. Use a flathead screwdriver and a gentle hand.- The wrist rest is pretty comfortable, but I feel like I would be more comfortable typing if my hands were elevated a little more. I'm also a little worried about the matte finish rubbing away over time.EDIT: The matte finish on the wrist rest hasn't worn off even after over a year of use. You probably don't have to worry.- The keyboard is lightweight, but when placed on my desk it has a relatively sturdy feel to it and doesn't bend. It does move around very slightly.- The kickstands underneath the keyboard raise it up about 3/4 of an inch. They have a plastic bottom instead of rubber, so it's possible that this may allow it to move a little bit.EDIT: The kickstands are also somewhat flimsy, and one of mine has broken off... :'(- The braided cord is about 6 feet long and feels extremely durable, which is great if you're rough on your cables, I guess. The USB is white and gold-plated, so it seems to be a 1.0. It works with my black 2.0, blue 3.0 and red 3.1 USB ports. If your keyboard doesn't work in any of your USB ports, then your keyboard is defective.Someone wrote a review saying that when they received it, the 'Enter' key was sticking outside of the box. Now I'm not entirely sure what they mean by that, but when I received it all of the keys were perfectly intact.A few tricks you should know before assuming your keyboard is defective: The 'lightbulb' key switches the color of the LED lights. FN+'lightbulb' activates breathing lights FN+- slows down breathing FN+= speeds up breathing FN+Pg-Up turns up the brightness of the LEDs FN+Pg-Down dims the LEDs FN+Win activates Win Lock FN+W swaps WASD and arrow keysWHAT I RECOMMEND:Use this keyboard with an extended gaming mouse pad underneath it. Not only will it minimize the sound, but it'll also eliminate the chances of it moving around. You can get one for about $10 if you don't already have one.---UPDATE 7/9/2016 :It's been a few weeks since I purchased this, so I thought I'd update my review with a few of my observations.- So far, the matte material is showing no signs of wear whatsoever. Occasionally , the material The surface is insanely easy to clean (I just use a slightly damp cloth). You can take off the keys if you're very careful.- It's a lot easier for me to type on it now than it was when I first got it. I'm up to my normal typing speed now, so the keys, however, a little soft, aren't holding me back... so don't let that scare you.- The response time is absolutely impeccable, so if you're a fast typer or a gamer with a budget, you can count on this keyboard.- At the moment, after a few weeks of use, this is definitely one of the BEST KEYBOARDS you can get for this price.-UPDATE 7/29/2017 :It's been over a year since I bought this keyboard. The mechanics are showing no signs of wear, but some of the matte finish has begun to wear off on 3 different keys (A, S, & D.... can you tell I'm a gamer?).When the black paint wears away on the keys, there is just clear plastic underneath. However, the matte finish hasn't rubbed away on the surrounding plastic or on the wrist rest itself, even though I've been using this keyboard often and for over a year.If you're worried about what I said about the mushy keys and longer travelling distance, don't be. It's definitely something that you get used to over time, but it shouldn't affect anything you do too drastically. As it can be when getting any new keyboard, there is a bit of a learning curve.Changed my rating from 3 stars to 4 stars. Durable and high quality :)-UPDATE 10/20/2018:I don't know why I keep updating this, but it's still working. This keyboard has seen some crap but it's not showing any signs of mechanical wear after over 2 years of daily use. How much was this again? So worth it. I'm so impressed that it's still working because I feel like you never know with buying electronics online... 4Great price, Not so great quality Returning this soon.....so okay.Pros:It is backlit ; different colors ; chiclet style that were just like my laptop that i used for years.Cons:the keys were VERY HARD to press down , and when pressed at the edges, they would not depress correctly and fought being pressed down. You had to be directly in the center to push it; one of the F1-12 keys at the top got stuck when i pushed it....only way to get it unstuck was to pull a corner of the key outwards so it would come undone ; the space bar super stiff, as were all the keys, but this one especially; the long wrist rest is nice BUT its very solid and has a plastic feel to it, you might feel some slight unease since its just "there" because if you prefer the soft type of wrist rests or something thats softer, this board wont do you any good ; the sturdiness of the board isnt anything to boast about, no flex, but also doesnt look like it would withstand harsh punishment eg food and drink spilled on it ; some slight oil buildup on the keys may happen beacuse of its texture.all in all it was perfect for me in visuals, but physically it fails for me. 1More than pleased with this keyboard OK I did a lot of research before I bought this so I knew what I was getting and I am very pleased overall. Yes the space bar is not completely lit, but I think it would be too much if it was and the backspace probably should have been completely lit up.Pros: 1) Good quality feel to the keys and the structure. 2) Good choice of colors and dimming levels, I ended up using the red the most for reasons you will find out. 3) Easy to clean. 4) The dragon is pretty cool.Cons: 1) Seriously what were they thinking in redesigning the qwerty layout, there are some things you just don't mess with, but you do eventually get used to it. 2) The num lock light will drive you batty, I keep meaning to put a small piece of electrical tape over it. 3) There is no dedicated on/off key, you have to cycle thru all the color options to shut the lights off with one finger. 4) The big unlit accent strip is red so it does kinda make you choose the red lighting to make it look right.Overall this a great keyboard for the money and hopefully they will listen to customer input and make a few changes to future models. Do not hesitate to purchase, you will be pleased overall. 5Squishy Membrane Keys - Not a good Keyboard. Just because it looks like a decent Keyboard, I gave it a 2 star, Aside from the design and lighting, This is not a good keyboard, even for the price. The keys are mushy and feel like full membrane keys. They tend to get stuck and it feels like you have to put in extra effort just to push in a key. They do not feel pleasant at all to type with.If you're someone that intends to get this keyboard for writing, DON'T. It's a waste of money.If you want it cause it looks cool, that's all you're really going to get out of it.The space bar is also very squishy and misses sometimes, not very good when using it for a game either. In fact none of the keys on the keyboard are adequate for gaming, this shouldn't have "gaming keyboard" in the title. It's horrible, barely good enough to have as a conversation piece. I was over all disappointed with the keyboard.I put it back in the box almost as soon as I took it out and gave it a test drive. Mine, also had a sticky "H" key, due to the minimal effort into putting some kind of mechanical anything in the keys. It's nearly nothing but membrane so the keys tend to get stuck in the corners, that's very terrible. I figured mine was defective as I did not see anyone else have this issue. Not a great start, I do NOT recommend it at all. 2
