    DOAMine was DOA. The pkg showed it had previously been opened. I suspect someone bought it and didn't confess that the recorder didn't work when they returned it. The counter did not work in the record mode. The microphone didn't work. When I tried to count to 30 directly into the recorder microphone, what voice did record was so garbled that you couldn't understand it as a human voice. This is what you get when you order a "used-like new" and this is not the first time this has happened to me with Amazon.com products, unfortunately. I've learned my lesson. 1RCA Micro-Cassette RecorderBought to replace a 20 year old Panasonic. Had lots of recorded tapes and could not access them. Also have a dozen new tapes that I was unable to use. Have recorded already and listed to prerecorded tapes. Light weight and fits in bottom of my purse. Very hand item. Have recommended to family and friends. 5Great Voice RecorderIt has all the features I needed. Had it about a month and no problems. It even has more features than I originally intended. For example, it has a counter for easier playbacks. It also has an attachment to use remote control speaker for recordings. Plus, it came with two free tapes and two free batteries. If I ever need another one, I hope this one is still around. I do not like the new digital ones. I need to save my recordings for my business. I highly recommend this voice recorder. 5Inconistent performance and then just failedI had trouble using this product with 60 minute tapes. As I reached the end of the recording on one side, the tape would speed up and slow down, until it finally just stopped working. I purchased a total of 5 of these recorders. After the first two performed similarly, I returned the last 3 that had never been opened. The good news is that so far the cheaper Coby dictaphone seems to work. I miss the ones made by Olympus. I guess no one is making these anymore. We are trying to hang on to the old magnetic tape equipment as long as we can. 1Defective garbageRCA RP3538R Micro-Cassette Voice RecorderSave your self the time and trouble. Got this RCA micro cassette recorder and right out of the package it froze in recording mode every time I tried to record. This is a defective piece of junk. I should have listened to the other negative reviews. This piece of junk should be recalled. 1They sure don't last long!I bought three of these because cassette recorders are so hard to find.I bought them not even 6 months ago, and already two of them have died on me. They worked fine at first, and I was quite well-pleased, but after a couple of months, each of the first two have become unusable. The voice becomes garbled, and the speed increases & decreases such that my transcriptionist can't understand me.Changing batteries doesn't help. Banging it doesn't help. New tapes don't help.I will begin my search again for a dictaphone I can rely on - drat!! 2Not Very Good QualityBought this as a gift for our sister who is serving a mission, so we could record tapes and send them back and forth. I wouldn't buy this voice recorder again, or recommend it. It will randomly slow down or speed up the voice recording (imagine deep slow voice and then fast chipmunk like voice). It doesn't record very clearly and unfortunately we have lost some recordings because of it. It would be fine as a toy, but I would invest in a more expensive voice recorder if you want to use it for something other than that. 2returnedWas sold as 'new' and when it arrived, saw immediately that it was not even close to 'new'. I usually get one that is a bit bigger than this little voice recorder so my concern was about the quality of sound. I held my breath while I put the tape in for the first time. Then I was really surprised, great volume, great quality of sound. What a relief!That is why I would give it five stars. 5Awful productI bought 3, and glad I did. The first never worked. Return cost not worth mailing back a piece of junk. The second and third are used in 2 locations; they eat batteries, sometimes I'll stop to hear what I've dictated and only get static on one of them, until I shake it a few times. One only records on the 'first half' of the battery. I can use the batteries after I pull them out of the machine; they're not dead. If there were ANY mini cassette recorders yet on the market, I would get them instead. So far as I know there aren't. The RCA is simply awful. 1
