    Not just for working in flammable atmospheres-useful for general useJust got one of these. In a similar vein, I have two Night Stick intrinsically safe lights which I like, and this is Rayovac's version of an intrinsically safe light. They are designed to be safe in flammable atmospheres, but these lights are quite useful for a home or car light,or to clip to your backpack for hiking and camping.The Rayovac uses 3 C cells (as oppossed to 3AA cells for the Night Stick lights). It puts out a similar 150 lumens. Here is what you need to know. Despite a somewhat numerically anemic lumen output, this light reaches out very far because of excellent "thrower" reflector design and LED placement. Rayovac seems to have some good reflector designers. Their [semi]-Indestructable lights also reach out a far distance with only a few lumens. The benefit of this is extended battery life. I read in the specs this light has a 37 hour run-time on high. Using C cells instead of AA cells is also a factor in this extended run time. So spend a little extra and get the best batteries for this light. Regarding battery replacement, these lights (and the Night Stick lights) require more disassembly to change batteries than a simple cylinder flashlight. With the Rayovac, the reflector/LED assembly comes out (it will fall out, so don't let it hit the floor) to get at the battery compartment, and it has to be put back in with the switch contacts aligned with the internal contact.Apparently, earlier versions of this light had only one brightness level, but mine has two: high and low.There are two things about this light that detract: 1.) it takes a tiny allen wrench (included) to tighten the retainer screw to lock the front bezel in place. I ultimately lose every damn accessory that comes with anything, so we'll see how this goes, but I'll bet, despite my best efforts either I will lose it, or my spouse will lose it for me. The work-around is that you don't have to tighten that screw and trust me, the bezel's not going anywhere if you don't because it fits quite snugly over the multiple o-rings that seal it. If you don't tighten it, it just sticks out about an eigth of an inch and shouldn't be a snag problem on normal clothing.The other weird thing is the button on the side of the light. There is a button on the side of this light which is glued in place and only a dummy. I don't know if it was an earlier design which they dropped and then re-tasked the existing bodies, or what the deal was, but, me being loathe to read instructions, I wasted some time trying to turn the light on with that glued-in vestigial button, LOL. Then I realized that the rubber button on the tail is actually the switch (and it looks like it should turn - it doesn't, you depress it until it clicks to turn it on and to cycle between modes). Use everyday. Heavier then most others but built to last. 5
