Customer Reviews

Great product / faulty firmware / lackluster supportThese just came out a few months ago, and apparently they aren't flying off the shelves. I say this because when I received the two receivers I purchased together with the Jr2 transmitter, they did not offer wireless power control of my 430 EX Canon Speedlite. After some correspondence with customer support, I was told that I needed to ship back the units so the firmware could be updated, which is another thing to be aware of. These units have USB ports on the side so you can update firmware yourself, but RadioPopper does not even have the software ready for consumers to use for doing this. At this time, the firmware can (apparently) only be updated by shipping the units back to them (at your own cost by the way...).When you do ship them back, be aware that they may sit on their shelves for well over a week before getting serviced. From the time they received my returned receivers, it was 11 days before USPS tracking confirmed receipt of them from RadioPopper.FYI...I have been using (and loving) the Jrx series of transmitter and receivers for the last few years very happily. In my opinion, they're the best on the market in the cross section between features and price. It's just that these Jr2's are new and they obviously weren't ready for prime time - neither the product, or the company to support them.Buyer beware.3Most Reliable Variable-Power RF Trigger - Now Works With 430EXThis thing is a big improvement over the previous-generation JrX receiver and RPCube for controlling strobe output. The older system had one consistent point of failure at the cable between JrX receiver and RPCube.First off - cables from RadioPopper were expensive at $19.95 apiece. After the ones that came with the JrXs started failing and finally broke, I purchased some from a custom cable maker for about 1/3 the price. But after awhile, they began failing too.The Jr2 receiver eliminates RPCubes. This new receiver is flat-out reliable. I've used mine to control power of Canon 430EX and 550EX strobes, and they just work. RadioPopper has *fixed* earlier firmware problems.I'm also using Eneloop rechargeable AAA batteries to power them. It's a pleasure to eliminate expensive rechargeable RCR123s from the old JrX system. I haven't really tracked the battery life of the AAAs, but it seems no worse than the RCR123s in the JrXs.I also like the stand-up-all-by-themselves design of the Jr2 receiver. For placing flash without a stand, this is far better than the kludge of the strobe in the RPCube in the little flash stand or stand adapter. If I need to use a stand adapter, screwing the Jr2 receiver into it is far more solid.Do you get high-speed sync? No. but do you really NEED HSS in a multiple-flash remote setup? I don't. If you do, you can use RadioPopper's PX system.Do you get E-TTL (Canon) or iTTL (Nikon)? No, but again, do you really NEED TTL control in a multiple-flash remote setup? Once more, I don't. I have yet to use a remote, multiple-flash setup for fast-moving subjects like sports competitors. Even there, you probably want fixed flash power indoors, and probably outdoors. Shooting pro mountain bike races outdoors, I want mobility. Even on a dual slalom course, competitors' lines are unpredictable enough that a fixed flash setup doesn't help for fill.Where this system excels for me is with product, real estate interior, and ruins photography. I love setting power at the camera for multiple-strobe setups, and with the Jr2 transmitter, you can set independent power for four strobes in exact EV increments.Highly recommended.5Perfect solution for off camera flash on my Fuji X-Pro 2I'm using this on my Fuji X-Pro2 - Works great! Perfect for being able to trigger my Canon 600EX-RT Flashes used in conjunction with the Jr2 Transmitter.5
