Customer Reviews

Bad Run Out!Bad run out with all my chucks. Did not realize it was the adapter until after I purchased a new chuck thinking it was my chuck! Stuck with a worthless chunk of metal. 1Does its job wellThis product, while not necessarily a game changer, has facilitated quite a few works so far. If you re working with an aging Shopsmith like me, having one of these is a must. One thing I would make an effort to point out is how tightly this fits onto the headstock, but maybe that s a good thing when working with hazardous machinery. 5The headstock spindle is a clean, polished turning with ...The headstock spindle is a clean, polished turning with no evident flaws. This was part of an order consisting of the spindle, a 5/8 inch shaft and pillow block bearings. I have made a headstock for applying a finish to a completed turnings in a dust free area. It is driven with an old 1/3 HP split-phase motor with a 4 step pulley. The headstock spindle went on the shaft with an airtight snug fit. The shaft fit the bearings, and all I have to do is mount it on a bench. 5Totally Outstanding Adapter for my Shopsmith !!!I received an adjustable lathe chuck for lathe function of my Shopsmith. Problem was the mating end of this chuck threads unto the headstock. On a Shopsmith, it's a 5/8" stud. Mounting the adjustable chuck would require a purpose built adapter. Came across the Headstock Spindle Adapter built for the Shopsmith from PSI. Perfect!!!This adapter is one honkin' piece of turned metal. It's big, heavy, and awesome. Fits perfectly.I've never had anything buy outstanding results from PSI (Penn State Industries). I have my shop dust collector made by PSI, the remote dust collector switch from PSI, and a few other items. Overall, this company produces high quality products...To include an awesome, over-the-top pen turning section.Extremely pleased, and Highly Recommended. 5Great product with clean precise machiningThe L5818 insert works great with my Shopsmith Mark 5 made in either 1962 or 1963. The tolerances ran a little too tight to mount on the shaft the first time but a little emery cloth and about 2 or 3 minutes of working it back and forth, opened up the 5/8 inch hole just the right amount. 5PerfectThe 5/8 smooth bore fits very snug on my Shopsmith with absolutely no play. The 1 x 8 tpi threads screwed on perfectly to my Nova G3 #48232 chuck. The set screw is a 5/32 , the exact same as the Shopsmith. I highly recommend this adapter for attaching the Nova G3 #48232 chuck to a Shopsmith. 5Life saverBought a very old lathe from a friend and after looking everywhere to find parts I find they no longer exist, this adapter was the right thread count to fit and all modern attachments I've bought so far fit excellent. 5Expensive but worth the $Fit perfectly allowing me to use a larg(er) chuck on my wood lathe. I recently ordered and received a second adapter for a face plate. Those "flats" on either side of the larger part of this adapter are an important part of its' functionality-they allow for easy application and removal. Of course, I used Never-Seez as is my standard practice. 5Good Quality, Great PriceThe above picture of this adapter doesn't do it justice. I was surprised at the quality. This item is a large, heavy weight, finely machined and polished spindle adapter. Both ends screws on smooth. It's top quality at a price that's cheaper than PSI (Penn State Industries), sales it for. And a lot cheaper than other adapters are sold for. View my photos for more detail. It turns true and on center. It doesn't have set screws to lock it to the spindle for reverse operation, but I can drill and tap a couple of holes for set screws if it becomes necessary. It has a solid core on the male threads so you can't use a vacuum chuck. On the female end there are two flat spots for a wrench if necessary. I use an 'Adjustable Slip & Lock - Plumbers Nut Wrench,' its cheap light weight and can accommodate the large size of the adapter (search Amazon # TW408302). The adapter does jamb tight against the chuck and/or spindle so the wrench might come in handy. The nut wrench is also sold at local home improvement centers. This adapter screwed nicely onto my lathe's spindle, right over the shoulder of the spindle to mate with the shoulder of the adapter, as if it was made specifically for my lathe. I did read a magazine Q & A article where someone said their adapter didn't screw on far enough to seat onto the shoulder of the spindle and was asking if he could use a stack of large washers to fill in the gap. The answer was - not a good idea to use washers from the hardware store due to variation in hole ID and thickness from one washer to another. It was suggested to use 'Anti-Lock Lathe Spindle Washers' to fill in any gaps (search Amazon, about $2). Maybe this might help others, but it was not an issue with my lathe.Specs:OD at female end: 2 1/16"Depth of female pocket: 1 1/2"Depth of shoulder inside female pocket: 1/4"Length of male threaded end: 1"Total length: 2 3/4"Wrench size to fit flats: 1 13/16"Weight: 1 lb. 4.8 oz.[See my photos for more detail.] .review-image-thumbnail { background-position: center center; background-repeat: no-repeat; overflow: hidden; background-size: cover; height: 160px; width: 235px; } .review-media-gallery-content { height:100%; width:100%; background-color:black; } .reviews-mobile-media-gallery .a-carousel-viewport { margin-left:15px; } .cr-thumbnail-image { float: left; } 5Machined part is great for Shopsmith!I received the adapter an was happy with the quality but the Jam Nut is a standard nut which takes up threading which should be inside the chuck. Only 5 threads stick out of the nut which does not allow the enough threaded material to contact the chuck. What is sold will work but not ideal. If you purchase just replace the standard nut with a actual Jam Nut to be safe. 2
