This is a must have item if you are a boat or RV owner!I have only had this a month for my RV and it has blocked service twice. The reason was less than 100 volts of power. I wonder how often I plugged my boat into questionable power. This is a fantastic product!5Stopped working after a little over 6 monthsWe bought this surge protector for our RV in a covered storage facility. We noticed that the green light was out, which is the light indicating that the surge protector is working. Even though this surge protector has a "lifetime" warranty, we called customer service and were told that the green light going out is not covered, because that means that the surge protector did its job and the green light burns out after a few surges. We called the storage facility, where over 100 units are stored and no one else has reported experiencing any surges of power and no breakers have blown, indicating that there has been any surge issues within the storage unit. We were willing to pay over $80 for this surge protector because of the lifetime warranty, but I guess everyone has a different interpretation of "lifetime". What a waste of money on our part.1Progressive Industries Surge ProtectorThis is a great protector for the electrical system in an RV. I purchased it after purchasing and installing one for a family member. They had it go into protection mode in a Corp of Engineers campground down South. After checking the voltage at the pedestal and finding it to be OK he plugged in the RV. They went shopping and returned to the RV to find the unit in protection mode. Looking at the display showed that the in coming voltage was at 139 VAC. The unit cut power to the RV and protected all the Electronics and AC units from damage that would most likely have happened if operated on that excessive voltage.The clueless manager (as many are) offered a solution of "Maybe when more people plug in the voltage will come down."I talked to another man in a campground this summer who has had 8 times that the unit has cut the power to his RV because of Low voltage, High voltage, or open Neutral.This unit will prevent costly repairs by cutting the power to the RV if problems are found.5I'm burning I'm burning I'm burning for youuuuuPics show damage to surge protector and damage to my shore power cable. Purchased SSP-50XL end of June 2018, to use in conjunction with my 2018 MPG Cruiser 3100BH, on September 16th at about 1:00am the power goes out and I went outside to check on what was going on. I could smell a strong odor of burning plastic/electrical but not in the trailer, only outside. I touched the back of the SSP-50XL and could barely keep my hand on it as it was extremely hot. Flipped the main 50amp breaker at my shore power to be safe and went to work checking all the fuses and breakers in the trailer to be safe. Spent about 2 hours safety checking everything on the inside then secured my trailer an left. In the light of day and sans mosquitos pulled the SSP-50XL and realized it had melted my shore power cable pretty bad, not sure if i'll have to replace the whole thing or just put a new end on, but for sure I'm out the $120.00 for the SSP-50XL and whatever I end up paying for my shore cable.....they say lifetime warranty but we'll see. P.S. 50amp shore power installed by licensed electrician, even gave him the instructions to wire correctly for travel RV hookup and not 220, surge protector identified it as being wired correctly, all plugs and cables were secure and firmly plugged in.1Smart BuyI just replaced my junction box with it. Protects surges from shore or my 50amp generator without issue.I thought I might have issues with it protecting from the generator due to a couple of reviews on here, but I was more worried about surges from shore stations than my generator.Anyway it works fine with my generator and detailed instructions for use with a generator or external source or both is included.I did not put the wired remote in the interior - I kept it in the bay. Who needs a bright cycling light flashing at all times?Installation was straightforward as far as what to do - doing it was more challenging than I thought. When other reviewers mention the difficulty of working with the wires they are not kidding, so have your RV guys do it if you don't feel like grumbling a bit.I have used it 8+ hours on the generator Onan Marquis Gold 5500 without issue and had it hooked to both a 50amp and 30amp (with adapter) power station. No issues or cut-offs, but if there's any errors it gives you codes to troubleshoot.Last year I had a microwave "pop" and die at a park, so I got this guy because while they're a bit pricey - they're not as bad as these appliances, as you probably know.5Good product but buyer beware!! Updated 6/5/2018I really think this is a 5 star product and I was ready to give it 5 stars and explanation follows. Received the product timely and all parts were present. Installation is very easy if you follow the included instructions and photos. The most important part is making sure the terminal block screws are screwed down tightly on the stripped wires. The stripped wire end will typically be multistrand copper wires and after stripping the wire ends, insert into the terminal block and tightly screw down. Wait about 5-10 minutes and re-tighten the screws as the wire strands will deform. I learned this trick from an electrician. After installation and confirming fully functioning unit, I thought I would get on the Progressive Industries website to see if I needed to register my unit to maintain warranty. I read through the warranty and here is the copied statement under voided warranties section: " Installation of hard wired units by any party other than a qualified RV dealer"I then e-mailed them asking about this and their reply was confirmation of voided warranty on self installation. So, if you are a "Qualified RV dealer", you have lifetime warranty but if you are a DIYer or even a qualified licensed electrician who happens to not be a "Qualified RV dealer", then the lifetime warranty is void. Given that, why is this product available for sale on Amazon without a warning? While I do not believe that I will have problems with this item, and I feel competent with my installation and that "qualified RV Dealers" does not necessarily mean competent RV Dealers (I have had my share of work done by "Qualified RV Dealers") I am disappointed by the Warranty restrictions.6/5/2018: I have been notified by recent purchasers of the EMS-HW30C that PI now will provide Limited Lifetime warranty on this product even with self install!! This is great news and I will revise my review with 5 stars. Proper preparation and installation is still a caveat.5Light Burned OutVery unhappy now. The unit worked fine. After 14 months the blue light would not light up (at my house)....indication an open ground. Had an electrician come out. No problem with wall socket or home circuit. So I guess the light has burned out. Years ago we did not have these to use....I can't see buying another one. EDIT/UPDATE: Over time another light burnt so I contacted the Company. THEY STOOD BEHIND THEIR WARRANTY AND SENT MY A BRAND NEW UNIT. Stars changed to a 5. What ever you do, use one of these units and protect your RV.5Warranty Is A JokeIf you re buying this for the lifetime guarantee- don t! The company does not stand behind its product. They find any excuse not to replace a faulty unit. Very frustrating!1Not what it's supposed to be. Does not stop ...Not what it's supposed to be. Does not stop surges as it was advertised too. Called progressive industries to ask a question and that's when I found out it was basically a unit that tells you if the electrical was wired up correctly or not, it does not stop surges or protect anything. For that kind of protection, you need EMS-PT30x or the 50x model. Pic is the unit that has surge, over current, under currrent, wrong wiring, etc.1This is the best way to protect your investment.So I have a bunch of friends who like to go camping RV's. One of my friends suffered an unfortunate incident where he sustained permanent damage to his RV because of a bad wired power supply at a campsite. After speaking with him about his misfortune I knew that I needed to investigate whether a power surge protector even existed for RVs. Luckily, they do. I researched for about a week and found this particular unit. I was impressed with the reviews as well as the design and overall ease of use of this particular product. I went ahead and made the purchase and it arrived very quickly and I was not disappointed with the design and quality of the product. When you take it out of the box, it feels like a quality well-made product. For me though the real test will be when I took it camping which I did later that week. I got to the campsite, got everything set up and then put the surge protector to the test. Passed with flying colors. Very easy to understand gave me accurate readings and gave me the peace of mind I needed to know that my investment in my RV is better protected. In retrospect it has made me feel foolish that I would spend so much money on an RV but not spend a little extra to ensure the safety of all of the things that are inside of it. This particular unit does all of the work for you. When you plug it in it doesn't count down as it analyzes the circuit and if everything checks out it turns itself on allowing power to go to your RV. If there is a problem or a spike, it shuts itself off and protects your RV. This unit is an analyzer and a search protector, meaning that you leave it plugged in the entire time.The unit is well-made and very easy to use and I can't recommend it highly enough. It is for anyone who wants to protect what they've invested their money in.5
