Broke without use or damage. Tested when it arrived and it worked just fine. Carefully packed it away and 6 months later came to use it and found the battery compartment lid no longer closed. I bought 2 units and the other works fine. The plastic moulding most be poorly made. I would not buy again and can find no way to return or make a claim as a third party seller. So Amazon is off the hook. I have had promlems like this before and now watch carefull to avoid 3rd party sellers. 1Decent flash, but construction is cheap! I only use this as a second off-camera flash about four a year. So after 2 years and about 8 uses, the battery door wont close. The little clips that keep it in place broke off the door. I never dropped it and always kept it in it's case within a padded bag. My research says that this was an issue on flashes made before 2013. I guess I got one of those. It is such an issue that multiple sellers on ebay sell this door for $5, but it takes more than 30 days to get here. I guess I will just use a rubber band until then. Otherwise it works pretty good as an off camera flash on my D7000. Nowhere near the quality of my primary SB 700, but definitely a good back-up or second flash for the money. 3awesome value Just got this today and tested it out and was very pleasantly surprised. Well constructed, easy to figure out and set up. Had it running as a Nikon AWL slave in manual mode within one minute of unboxing it. Tested flash levels from full down to 1/128 using the commander mode on my Nikon D610, and everything looks right. The only concern I have is durability. I've heard some people had theirs burn out within a few months; I've also heard that Yongnuo's warranty service can be ... difficult to get. In any case, my initial impression is that this is an excellent product for the money. Will update the review later after I've had more time to use the flash. 5Cheaper replacement for sb700 This speedlight works for my nikon D7000 perfectly with the TTL settings. The s1 and s2 setttings are also handy because D7000 only has A & B groups. I have a SB900 and SB600 commanded by camera, but can use s1 for manual on YN 560EX. I am very satisfied with purchase, because this saves me almost 2/3 of the cost compared to another sb700. It performs as the same purpose as sb700, although may be low powered compared to sb700, especially under the very bright outdoor conditions. But remember, lower output can also lead to less overheating issues and serves for 99% of the cases. I actually get a second one because I am really like the performance. Now I have four nice flash to do most of my hobby photo in my house. 5This is an awesome off camera flash This is an awesome off camera flash. The built in flash on my D70 and D90 fire it every time. The commander mode on my Nissin BG8000 does also. This flash fires all night without a problem and seems to go easy on the batteries. It doesn't support on camera TTL. I guess it supports off camera TTL with the Nikon CLS system. Otherwise it's a manual flash. As a manual flash it works pretty well. The back screen is very easy to read. It's easy to control and works very well. It can also be triggered with a radio trigger, the Nickon CLS system or by sensing if another flash went off. So if you have one radio trigger and 2 flashes, you can still trigger them both by making this one sense when other flash goes off. I like it, but the title is a little confusing and might lead others to think that it supports on camera TTL> 5Pretty good slave flash I have two of these in my CLS Nikon setup and I use them in addition to my SB-700. So, when I fancy either off-camera TTL or full manual setup, these are great for both. Their power can be adjusted from my camera or my SB-700 (for Nikon CLS, I don't know how Canon does this). I use my pop-up flash as a regular trigger or when some more complex setup is needed I use the SB-700 as a trigger (I hate that I have to sacrifice it for a mere trigger, but I am thinking of an extension cable so I can use the SB-700 as a trigger AND a useful source of off-camera light). I love these lights: they are low cost (bought at $105 each) and pack a lot of power. Three of these are still cheaper than my SB-700 costs, so... it's a no brainer. Reliability? Time will tell... So far they work great. No, I wouldn't get them as a single main flash. I have my SB-700 for that and the 560EX are secondary units. For that, they are unbeatable. I'd make sure that I buy either from Amazon or Fulfilled by Amazon, so when stuff happens, I have a way to exchange it in a reasonable way rather than ship it back to Hong Kong or Taiwan. 5Finicky, but got it working. Worth the money for slave flash I got the Yongnuo 560EX to act as a second slave flash (my SB-600 as the first slave) triggered by my D90 in commander mode. I read through the reviews and then tried my luck getting it to work in my setup. Just as a reminder, the 560EX does not have the pins on the shoe to work in TTL mode while mounted on the camera, but it does communicate with Nikon and Canon flashes in slave mode.I only tried on Channel 1. Not sure if the results would have been different for the other channels. My first attempt was to run the 560EX in slave mode by itself triggered by the D90. I tried Group A first based on other reviews that mentioned problems on group B. The results were a bunch of blown out pictures. No matter how I set the EV for Group A I got 100% power from the flash. I then tried manual mode on the 560EX on Group A and that worked. Then I tried to run the 560EX on Group B with Group A disabled. No dice, the flash wouldn't fire at all on Group B with group A disabled.Finally I tried to use the 560EX as a second slave with SB-600 as the first slave. This setup worked perfectly. I was able to cycle the EV ratio and everything worked. The key was that the 560EX would not fire on Group B if Group A was disabled. Since I was planning to use the 560EX as a second slave this wasn't a problem. (it turns out that I could have Group A enabled without a flash on Group A and the 560EX worded fine on group B).To be honest, even if I had to use the 560EX in manual mode it would be worth it for the price. The ability to have two flashes in TTL controlled from the D90 is icing on the cake. If Yongnuo put a little bit more effort into testing and firmware so it just plain worked, then there would be no reason to ever buy a Nikon Flash, but for right now I wouldn't recommend it as your only flash. If you are buying this as your sole slave flash be prepared for some blind experimentation (unlike the Nikon flash which worked perfectly the first time I ever tried). Hope this review helps somebody else get their flash working. 4Didn't worked with CowboyStudio NPT-04 triggers I bought this flash after I saw a bunch of reviews, it worked with triggers but the ones I bought didn't worked with it (CowboyStudio NPT-04) so I was really upset. I was hoping to use it with triggers so I could get a lateral light and not a front one. It does work with the camera flash (btw, I have a Nikon D7000) but still I do have a front front light (gotta have a normal flash level so the Yongnuo's flash can be activated). So if you like front light, this could be it. It does work and it's a powerful light. 3I HAVE TWO YONGNUO FLASHES AND I WILL BUY MORE. I use this Yongnuo YN560EX flash with my Nikon D7000 and works very well. This flash worth every penny. After have this flash for 2 years still working efficiently.Off camera with a Yongnuo trigger no disappointment.... powerful like between SB-900 and SB-700 I use this flash more that my Nikon SB-700 and so far I love it.This is a great flash for use with ittl nikon camera. Portraits and infant photography, the flash can be operated remotely with the Yn 622n tx controler in conjunction with the Yn622n flash trigger. All your adjustments can be done at the camera. The flash also has a zoom feature motorized. Or manually with other triggers.I highly recommend it. 5
