Decent speaker for the money!You get what you pay for and these speakers are worth every penny! I have these wired to my receiver via bi-amp output so that is 200 watts to each speaker. They are in a small room in my apartment and they sound great if I am in the sweet spot (about 10 feet away). Very clear mid-range and crisp highs, and as long as I am sitting in that sweet spot the bass is pretty good! Now the bass is not going to vibrate and rattle the furniture but it's still good audible bass. For the earth shaking deep low end you definitely need a good subwoofer! But since I am in an apartment and don't want to piss off my neighbors I don't have mine hooked up. Once I am in a place where I can use a subwoofer these speakers will sound perfect!For the price they are a great deal! They are built sturdy and look good!And yes the price is per speaker. 4A very nice soundWhen I first heard a Polk Audio speaker (early seventies), it was the warmest sounding speaker I had ever heard, especially compared to a contemporary JBL or AR. Thankfully, this speaker sounds well balanced. Not between channels, because the D-class 2.1 amplifier I bought to power the Polks had a dead channel (let's hear it for Chinese craftsmanship and QC).I don't know what the people who complained about no bass are talking about. I bought a Pioneer subwoofer to round out the system, but I found that I could turn off the sub and still enjoy big band music, even with only one speaker taking part and with CDs being played by a DVD player. I suspect they're used to car stereos of the worst sort, where most of the sound comes from vibrating sheet metal, and where each bass note lasts for three seconds.Update: I now have a new amp that works and a CD player. I can verify that a sub-woofer is seldom needed, but I don't listen to rock music, so that might change if I did. I have the system in a very small room, where the speakers and my ears form a triangle that's very close to being equilateral, so imaging is good. The speakers will definitely overpower the room. All in all, I'm happy with them. I need to listen more and see if I have a complaint with high frequency material, as others have mentioned. 5You won't find anything better for under $400For the money, these things are amazing! I wanted something cheap that I could use for music and TV. I wanted it to sound decent and get decently loud without spending much, and these fit the bill beautifully. With a used receiver I picked up and these speakers, I've managed to build a nice sounding setup for only $300. I'm quite happy.I listened to a lot of other speakers and found that I like these more than anything under $400 per speaker. There were some Klipsch floorstanding speakers for $400 each that I thought were a dramatic improvement on these, but I didn't want to spend that kind of money. I listened to some other Polk Audio speakers that were around $200-300 each and thought these Monitor 60s were as good, if not better.That being said, these speakers are not perfect. I think they really shine on vocals and higher frequencies. Music like Sade and Annie Lennox sounds great. The individual parts of the song really sound separated. But lower frequencies sound muffled and very flat, and bass is almost non-existent. Listening to rock music like Led Zeppelin or Goo Goo Dolls isn't as enjoyable.I generally think bass is obnoxious and despise subwoofers, so I was looking for something that didn't have heavy bass, but these are just so bad even I'm left wanting for more bass.I give these a 4 star rating because they're just so dang cheap for what you get at $100 each. If these were more expensive I'd give a lower rating, but I'm so happy that they sound as good as they do for practically nothing that it more than makes up for the flaws. 4Very High Quality for $100.00Five stars for the sound quality vs the cost. The cost of this speaker is low, the sound quality is higher than you would expect for a speaker at this price. The quality over the entire frequency range is really high.The bass is powerful within the speaker's range. As other comment, a sub-woofer can help, but sub-woofers are not built into speakers like this.Vocals are rich and textured. Etta James and Frank Bey sound great. James Brown's voice sounds life like. So far, these are the only singers I have listened to. Saxophones sound rich and full.Bottom line, for the money, this is a fantastic speaker. 5Great speaker, great price. Turn up the music or turn down the soundWould like to rate them a 6, clear and concise, matched with a pair of Polk Audio T15 bookshelf speakers or by themselves they sound great on everything from Dave Beck's Camptown Races, Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, and last night's hockey game to anything else I put through them. Quality of the sound holds up from barely audible to loud enough and clear enough to hear anywhere in the house (this feature is not appreciated by everybody). Beyond expectations! 5These Monitor 60's blow away the Polk T 50's and it's not even closeI recently purchased a pair of Monitor 60's to replace a set of Polk T 50's that i had gotten on a black Friday deal for $75 a pair, which was a great deal, but they didn't quite blow me away. The same cannot be said with the Monitor 60's. Man these babies rock! I couldn't believe how much better they sounded as compared to the T 50's but it does make sense as they have 3 active woofers in addition to the dome tweeter and a front firing bass port whereas the T 50's only have 1 active woofer and 2 passive woofers with the dome tweeter and no bass port. And i got my Monitor 60's for $99 each here on Amazon and I'd expect to pay far more for speakers that produce what these do. I have them paired with a recently modified Polk PSW111 sub (the amp crapped out after 5 years and i replaced it with a Dayton plate amp and it's thumpin' once again) and an Onkyo receiver. The monitor 60's are a bit deep but the narrow profile allows them to slip right in next to the tv and they don't crowd the room like the wide towers of years ago.I still have a set of Polk S 10's from 1991, which still rock, but are twice as wide. So if you are deciding between the Monitor 60's and the T 50's it's not even a comparison, get these 60's! You won;t regret it. 5a very nice speaker for the price pointa very nice speaker for the price point, has good mids and highs, but lacks bass. get yourself a subwoofer to round it out, which polk also makes, and again at a great price point. the cabinet is solid and good looking, and the removable grill is nice. I've listened to a lot of music thru these already ( take it easy with the volume for a few days ), from pink floyd to santana to john mayer, and am pretty impressed. I used to have some higher end cerwin vega"s, but after 20+ years they finally dried up and blew away. with the addition of a decent subwoofer, these are comparable. shipping was fast and trouble free. enjoy your music and have an awesome day :) 4Polk Audio as always delivers great sound for the price I have been a Polk Audio fan for over a decade. I purchased four 60 series II monitor speakers, one T30 center channel speaker, and PSW10 subwoofer to upgrade my old Polk audio satellite speakers and subwoofer. The old speakers were still working but I wanted more sound envelope in my theater system and the small satellite speakers did not provide that. I just outgrew their sound and wanted something fresh. These new Polk speakers delivered just that. I have a Dolby 5.1 speaker setup in a studio apartment and needed 4 speakers on stands. I could have went with bookshelf speakers on separate stands but the 60 series II monitor floorstanding speakers provided an all in one solution with sound emanating from the entire speaker column vs just at the top with the bookshelf on stand option. I wanted a good looking piece of equipment to complement my apartment that was also a great sounding speaker. The setup sounds great with rich highs and a sound field that envelopes you. I upgraded to a Yamaha RX-V683 AV receiver as well. A 60 series II monitor speaker is roughly the same price as a bookshelf speaker on a separate floor stand so this decision just made good sense to me. Plus the speaker terminals on these speakers are at the bottom of the speaker so the speaker wires connect low to the floor which is a lot more pleasing to the eye than bookshelf speakers on stands with the wire visible for 2 feet going up to the speaker. You could spend more for a better sounding speaker but for someone with a budget I don t think you could go wrong with this purchase. The Price vs Performance is great. 4Fantastic Speakers At A Fantastic PricePolk hasn't made the Monitor 60 series speakers in quite some time. However, they were still available through Amazon. I was looking for some small towers to go in my surround sound system in my bedroom. After reading many positive reviews on various sites about the Monitor 60 speakers, I ordered two of the for the front L & R. I was blown away buy the sound that these speakers will reproduce. I wasn't expecting anything near the quality they exhibited. I am impressed and happy with my decision to purchase the Monitor 60 speakers. The only negative that I experienced during the entire process was I ordered two of them and the day of delivery only one was delivered. I immediately contacted Amazon and they said I would receive the other one the next day. I did. Amazon did make this up for me, so all in all I am happy. 5
