Customer Reviews

Receiver works as expected with the TCU on cameraAs per my review of the system, the receivers (total of 3) worked without any problems. I accidentally dropped one from about 5 feet onto a tile floor and not even a scratch or malfunctions. My review of the system:The new Photttix Odin for Nikon delivered in all aspects of triggering multiple Nikon flashes, 2 SB 910"s and one SB 700. The set up was very easy, I tried all flashes on the same group (A) and worked as expected, I used each flash on a different group; A, B and C and it worked as expected, indivdually changing output from the on camera transmitter to each flash with (a receiver has to be attached to each flash of course) without any problems. I have not tested how far I can trigger the flashes as I used them in a room within about 10' from the transmitter but I am sure they would deliver as well. Overall, great addition to flash photography where remote triggering is called for.5Top notchThe phottix odins are easily for me reaching top of the line status at this point. They allow near complete control of your flashes from the camera position. You can always tell when you need to replace your flash batteries when working with the Odins, as that is when you get a misfire. Barring near dead batteries there is never a misfire with these. The only take away that must be mentioned with the Odins is that they work using pre-flash signals which eliminates knives edge accuracy in that you can't use a flash meter to measure exposure with them. Since I can't give a 4.5 for the product here, they get a 5 with that take away.If you need to reproduce your results the Odins due to the preflash issue, will only get you close, not 100% there. But easily I would recommend them. (I've been using them hard about 2 years now)Update- 2013- On a night session my umbrella caught the wind and down came the stand, flash, receiver and all. The trigger cleaved straight across at the foot. I was able to get this repaired at a local camera shop. I strongly recommend you use heavy stands with sandbags to protect your investment or use a synch chord rather than using the triggers foot and having your flash attached on top of the receiver. Definitely would give the Odin's a solid 4.2 after this and seeing the inside is pretty much solid plastic.4Handy remote flash trigger systemThe original Odin '1' remote flash controller is hard to find now since the Odin II set came out. This remote flash controller is nice and slim versus the new Odin 2 controller which are square and bulkier to accommodate a digital display. I mount this on light stands or sometimes with the little SpeedLite stand on the floor. I have several Odin 1's now set for various channels/zones to allow different light output for different placement and Speedlites. This Odin 1 flash controller is compatible with the new Odin 2 master controller too. The old Odin 1 master controller can trigger Odin 2 remote controllers too. So I've been buying additional when I can find them here and there to have a spare. So far this set is future proof. Many photographers use PocketWizards, which uses an antiquated analog zone controller. Others who use the much more expensive ProFoto systems have embarrassing failures. But I've never had misfires or fail to fires with the Phottix wireless flash trigger system.5This one really works with my Sony gearWhat can I say? IT WORKS. I had gotten tired of manual exposure control with my other wireless remote. Gave the Phottix Odin a try and I'm happy I did. Works better than Sony/Konica/Minolta wireless solution. I don't need to use a big flash on top of my a99. I get to do 3 flash setups on the go with my a99 and not worry about bouning trigger signal to my remotes and my camera stays lighter and my flash doesn't have to be on my camera changing the perfect portrait I planned.5It just works, compatible with Odin IIWorks seamlessly with my new Phottix Odin II transmitter, my old Sony HVL-F42AM and newer Phottix Mitros+ (all Sony versions). Like Mac users say - "it just works." Phottix did an excellent job keeping their old and new units compatible to each other. This receiver is the old Odin I protocol, if you want to use it with the new Odin II stuff you're restricted to 4 channels and 3 groups but this is enough for me for the time being.4Saved me many miles of shoe leather walking to adjust strobesCanon Version: I have four of these with my Odin controller for my Canon 430 EXII. Even used on my Cheetah Light CL360 bare bulb units as just a trigger. On the Canon flashes it allows full control of the units without ever having to fiddle with the flash directly. HSS works great as well as does ETTL. The real beauty of these is that you can run a key light in ETTL and set your kickers and fills to manual. I've had them indoors and out and they just work EVERYTIME!!! I sold off my PWs and use the exclusively now.5Very easy to useI already had a Phottix Odin controller for using my Indra500 strobe. I ordered this to use a speedlite as a hair light. So far with testing, it's been great! No problems connecting with the controller and even had the added benefit of HSS on a Nikon SB-600 which as far as I knew doesn't even support HSS. TTL works perfect as well. It feels nice and solid, comes with batteries and I was up and shooting in seconds. Can't recommend it enough! If you're using Phottix gear, this is a must have.5Ultra reliable / flexible flash triggersIf you are an amateur photographer, these are pretty expensive for what you get. But with 4 channels and 3 groups, they are so flexible. I use them with Nikon TTL flashes. I just did a portrait sitting for business profile shots and I definitely was the limiting factor, not these. The thing about buying good triggers and Nikon branded flashes is that they don't usually fail. I had the Y brand flash and it was dead in 2 years. The Nikon SB-xx0 flashes just work. Hint - use Nimh rechargeables for fastest recycle times.52nd PurchaseI had already purchased the Phottix Odin TTL Flash Trigger for Nikon, 2 Receivers early in the year and loved the ease and simplicity of these triggers. I have several flash guns and needed a third trigger. Can't beat Phottix for reliable, affordable triggers. A friend of mine uses pocket wizards and spend considerable more money than these costs. She now wishes she had purchased these.5Can't be beat...This works fantastically! I've done one 13-hour wedding, and two other photo shoots using this. Turn everything on, set the channel, and it starts firing. No miss-fires, no not firing, it simply does what it's designed to do.My only issue (and it may be me) is the zoom function sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. I've yet to figure out the rhyme or reason. i don't use zoom a ton, but it's one of the reasons I bought it. so it needs to work all time. I'll go through all of the instructions again, because I could be doing it wrong. We'll see.I HIGHLY recommend this. Especially over Pocket Wizards. Do NOT spend that type of money for name brand, over-hype. Do yourself a favor and buy the Phottix Odin.5
