Customer Reviews

An Efficient and Effective LED Light I have the Pelican 1810, Streamlight Nano, and UST Pico. The Pelican and the UST are noticeably brighter than the Streamlight, and if there's any difference between the Pelican and the UST, the UST might be a shade brighter. They are all effectively the same size. The main differences are in the feel of the bodies of these lights, and the sections that move to trigger the light. All of them twist on/off, but for the Streamlight, the split in the body comes near the middle, and the body is rather smooth, with a few fine checkering marks around the bezel. The Pelican has (relatively) deep concave gouges for your fingers to find in the dark, which go a good way to helping you find where to hold it (to twist in the dark); the Pelican also twists from the tail cap side, which also make the connector ring a de facto part of the twist mechanism, if need be, also giving you extra leverage, if that should ever be an issue (some of them come rather tight direct from the packaging). The UST has a smooth body, but a well checkered bezel, which is the twisting portion, moves readily on command, and is easy to find. So, in contrast to all three of them, I would put the Pelican and the UST about equal at the top. All told, if you like one feel better in your hand, stay with that model, but otherwise, choose the one (between the Pelican and UST) that's cheapest ...seeing as how prices on Amazon can fluctuate. 5Good, strong light I wanted a small flashlight on my keychain to help out when trying to get into the car when it's dark, checking the mail, or just "whatever". I had one of those disc-shaped lights that you press to light, but the tiny LED on those is so wimpy you might as well not bother most of the time. Not this one though. Good, strong light. It's not going to blind you of course, but if you need some solid light to see under your car seat for that thing you just dropped, or light the path in front of you in a dark parking lot, etc. this light will do the job.I got a Pelican Flashlight 1810C and also a Streamlight 73005 Nano and honesetly they're both so similar in size and light, I like them both (one's for me, one's for the wife), and I don't have a favorite. I guess it comes down to price. I think they both even use the same battery. This review is for both models because they are so similar and I'd have the exact same things to say about them. 5Amazing little ( little is very much the "key" word) ... Amazing little ( little is very much the "key" word) flashlight. I'm a flashlight fanatic and have way too many over the years having some tendency to lose tho gas. This is the best so far. If you want something very small so as not to weigh your keychain or create a big bulge in a pocket, you could not go wrong with this choice. I'll have to amend the review if batteries don't last. I was concerned it may turn on in my pocket which has not been the cas e a single time. 5Very bright for its size. Very bright for its size. The direct competitor at this price point is the Streamlight 73001 Nano Light Miniature Keychain LED Flashlight, BlackThe advantages of the Pelican 1810C over the Streamlight 73001 are:-- 16 lumen instead of 10-- IPX4 water resistanceThey have these things in common:-- rotary on/off switch-- use four LR41 1.5V coin batteries-- offered in multiple colors 5Not bad for what it is. I think Pelican is a fine brand. It's fine, but I like the Streamlight Nano a little more. They are both almost exactly 1 1/2 inches long, not including ring or clip. This Pelican 1810C weighs 9.5 grams w/ batteries, and the Nano is 8 grams w/ the same batteries (4 LR41 or AG3 cells). I like the sleeker, tapered look of the Nano more than this 1810C, which is a bit chunkier. When I bought my Nano over 3 years ago, I also got one for my wife in pink. She thinks it's so cute and has used it pretty often. She doesn't think this is as cute as the Nano either. I compared this light (with the included batteries) with my Nano using fresh new batteries. This Pelican has a much more purple tint than the Nano, which was pretty neutral looking in side-by-side comparison, but still a bit purplish by itself . They both have similar beam patterns, with a small, brighter center spot. This light seemed a little better at lighting across the dark basement, about 50 feet, but it was not a big difference at all. For the most part, at several feet, looking at various things, they seem to be equal brightness, just different tint color. I much prefer the Nano's more natural color. Of course, with cheap lights like these, the light tint and even brightness can vary noticeably from light to light. I have experienced this before when buying 2 or more of the same cheap lights. My wife's Nano, however, looks the same as my Nano. I mainly bought this light because I thought it would be noticeably brighter than my Nano, which I like, but rarely carry or use. I was wrong. The main reason I like the Nano better is that you twist the head to turn it on, just like the many other twisty flashlights I have. Actually, on closer inspection, it twists near the middle, but still seems normal. On this 1810c, however, you must twist very close to the tail to turn it on/off, which doesn't seem normal. Please keep in mind that even though this light and the Nano both claim about 8 hour runtime, that is sort of a joke. They actually say "useable light". There is no power regulation, so the light dims steadily just like the big and bulky flashlights of my youth, well before I became a flashlight nut. Actually, after comparing them for a few minutes, I decided to keep them both turned on and see how long they last. After only about 30 or 40 minutes, the output was about half, let's say 5 lumens. After 90 minutes, they both dimmed to about 2 lumens or less( I have many different small lights with known and accurate lumen ratings to try to measure accurately in a dark room. It is pretty difficult to judge and compare brightness due to different beam patterns and tints, but I tried). After 3 hours they seemed to be less than 1 lumen, and I turned them off for the night. The next night I turned both on again. They were both pretty bright at first, at least 5 lumens, but faded back down to about 1 lumen again in 20-30 minutes. For the next 4 hours, they steadily dimmed in unison to less than 1/4 lumen for sure. Yes, this is 'usable' light, usually called 'moonlight mode' on most lights, but very dim compared to 10 lumens, or even 2 for that matter. Surprisingly, they both kept the same brightness level as they dimmed together the whole time. They may be very cool and cute how small they are, but I would tell anyone to also consider an AAA flashlight. They may be twice as big, but still fine for a keychain. For about $10, the Fenix E01 uses one AAA and will last 12 hours with constant 13 lumen brightness from the regulation circuit. It will then step down to about 1 lumen when the battery is basically dead, but still shine 1 lumen for 12 more hours. It is also waterproof, not just water resistant. There are other AAA flashlights that have 100 lumens output or more, such as Olight i3E EOS, as well as features like low, med, high, strobe, S.O.S. on Olight i3S or Fenix E05, and others. It is also easier, and generally less expensive, to get one AAA as opposed to 4 button cells. I use rechargeable NiMH in all my AA and AAA lights and recharge often, but alkaline will work too. Just something to consider. 4BRIGHT LITE. SMALL PACKAGE I have to use a flashlight sometimes in my line of work. I didn't want to carry a handheld around with me. I actually grabbed key chain flashlight from one of my accounts that had them as a giveaway. It was about 2 inches long an 3/4" wide, I liked it, but it broke after about 2 months. I bought this and right away I like the size. It is about half the size of the old one. I don't like alot of crap on my key chain. The light is very bright for a small flashlight. VERY HAPPY WITH PURCHASE. 5The light was so dim I did not think it was on The light was horrible. When I first turned it on I thought the batteries were dead or perhaps turned around wrong. Nothing seemed to make it turn on, until I looked really hard and thought, is there actually a little light showing? So I shut myself in the pantry, completely dark, turned it on, aimed it at the wall, and still no light. Then for a lark I pointed it at my hand and finally saw the slightest glimmer of light. I was in a pitch dark pantry and could not tell it was producing light until I held it two or three inches from my hand.I feel swindled. 1Great light Awesone light, great quality, much brighter than expected. 5Super-convenient quality little light I bought this to replace my Streamlight Nano Mini Keychain flashlight. At first I liked the Streamlight Nano, but it turned on merely by turning the cap, and would turn itself on in my pocket. After buying another set of batteries for it, I put teflon tape on the threads, but after using it just a few times, it went back to its old ways of using up the batteries. For 0.26c more this flashlight is much better. It has two rubber O-rings which prevent the cap from turning in my pocket, and has stayed off. The O-rings make turning the cap much firmer. It is about exactly the same size and brightness. It is just a super-convenient little light for those times when it is too dark to see anything. 5Reliable small light I've been carrying this flashlight in my pocket for a couple of weeks and I'm happy with it. I use it on dog walks as needed and to look into dark spaces behind computers and such. The Pelican Flashlight is 1.5 x .3 inches and I haven't noticed any extra bulk when I have it in my pocket. I've had no problems with the light coming apart, accidentally turning on in my pocket or otherwise malfunctioning. The only downside is one handed operation can be a little awkward because you have to twist the bezel to turn it on. Most of the time this isn't an issue and it can be done without too much fuss. That said, I'd buy the light again and consider giving it as a stocking stuffer. 5
