Customer Reviews

Great for extension spring safety cablesI was looking for inexpensive cables to use as a safety cables for my overhead garage door extension springs. My overhead door is 7' tall, but the door tracks run about 1.5 feet beyond the door where they are anchored and the extension springs are mounted... these 8' cables are 9'6" long, which was the perfect length for the safety cables that I needed. 5-stars for Nice cables at a great price.5Good CableIt appears to be well made and it fit my 1995 Genie opener. I have 7' garage door, so I assumed the cable would be longer than needed. The total length is 9' 6" and it is just barely long enough. For my door the cable runs from the bottom of the door to pulley then to the spring and back to a connection near the pulley. I have about 2" to spar. Also the crimp on 1 end is too big to fit through my bracket so I needed to cut it off. I soldered the wire end to prevent if from fraying.5Quick $6 fix for broken cableWasn t available at Home Depot, so 48hrs later and a couple dollars cheaper I had on my doorstep.- it s thinner than Home Depot. This may be good as some thicker cable can won t fit some drum tracks?- the barrel is definitely lower quality than Home Depot. Hopefully it doesn t matter.5Good cables for the priceThese cables look strong, and they were plenty long for my application. Things I didn't like:1. The loop is a little small.2. They're clamped at the end. I had to cut the end off before installing.5If your doors are taller then normal you need to purchase longer cables These cables were better quality then the ones that came with my garage door spring system and my overhead door opener. Worked great. 4Great replacement, thicker cable than originalA little thicker than what was on the door to begin with but, was able to get it wound up. Pretty straight forward swap once you understand how to replace (YouTube it). Just be sure the door is prevented from being used while you are working on it, you could lose some important body parts otherwise.5Size of the garage door not the same as the size of the cable. These cables are designed a foot longer than the garage door. Make sure you don t order the 8 cable if your garage door height is 7 . The 7 garage cable is 8 long. The 8 garage door cable is 9 long.4How to release and retighten safely! They fit like OEM parts. Was easy to install! But you must know how to release the springs safely! 4perfect fitThese seem like a direct replacement for the cables that were in my doors. I have a double-width door for two cars and a single width for one car. I have doors that measure 8' bottom to top and the old cable was 9'6.5". This new cable was 9'6.25 and went in straight away. Very easy to install after watching a youtube video.I only had one cable fail, but I replaced all because I live in Minnesota and the bottom loops were all a bit rusty.5Works great for my garage door When my garage door spring snapped, I decided to replace the cables as a precaution. These cables were actually 4 inches longer than my original cables but they work great. 5easy to replace snapped garage door cable Goes on fast and easy works great. Much cheaper than calling the garage door guy. 5Good quality productGood quality product. Unfortunately, it is 1/8" diameter therefore does not fit my Wayne Dalton 8' door, which uses 3/32 cable. 1/8" cable will be too thick to fit inside the cable drum. Please be careful when choosing your cable. The difficult part for any home DIY garage door job is not that it's too dangerous, it's that garage door industry protects its dealers and service guys by not allowing open sale to the public of factory parts. The sole purpose, is not really for the safety of consumers, but for maximizing profit, period. As a result, the end users have to do serious research, trial and error to find the rights parts. Welcome to capitalism in reality!BTW the length on the package is 9'6", in case anyone asks.5CoolI am glad I found these on Amazon. And the price was definitely right. You would think these would never have to be replaced, but what happens here in New England is all the snow and slush melts off of your car and pools by the door...until it is removed because of the gentle inherent slope a garage floor should have and the seal on the door. This means that will attack the very ends of cable down by the floor. Replacement took some trial and error...but eventually I came upon a procedure that worked for me. Loosening the wheel with the door up and winding the cable onto the wheel and then securing the wheel. Having just replaced a single cable I did have to even the tension between the two cables. I did this by clamping the rod with the torsion spring in place with the door in the down position. I then loosened the wheel on the side that was exhibiting more tension. Upon loosening the door straightened to an even position and I tightened the wheel. Works as designed now. Nice.5Watch online videos for cable replacement.Make sure you buy the same length that broke. Watch an online video and, like me, you'll do the replacement quickly, especially if your door runs two cables to a single spring, since you won't have to figure how much spring pre-tension is needed. The remaining good cable will have retained that setup. So cool to have fixed this for just a few dollars rather than paying for a $200 to $300 service call.5
