    Just works As anyone who has had the pleasure of taking apart a Wii to replace the DVD drive knows, getting the drive out takes time, organization, and a wide assortment of unusual screw drivers. Thus, you want the thing to work once you put it all together again.This drive has been flawless since I replaced a replacement drive (likely parted out from a used system) that failed after only one year. Unlike that drive, this one really looks like new stock and hence I expect a long life out of it.The only thing that could make this kit better is the inclusion of replacement screws that all use standard Phillips, Torx, or whatever heads for the wide scope of "vandal-resistant" screws that nintendo blessed us with. 5My beloved Wii works once again This was professionally packaged and in all aspects appeared to be new. I also bought a screwdriver set made for Nintendo consoles. I watched a YouTube video and followed the instructions exactly, and the whole process took maybe 30 minutes, with my being very methodical and taking my time to use a piece of paper to label the location of the many screws once they were removed. I replaced the drive and put everything back together, and my Wii actually works! I'm so happy and my kids are thrilled. Hopefully we can get many more years of play, as I am dead set against buying any other console in the near future. 5Only works for a few minutes at a time... This was the lowest-priced replacement DVD drive for the Wii I could find. Our Wii is an older unit, and I did a bit of research to ensure that this replacement would be compatible. It was shipped from China, so delivery took longer than I would have hoped, but it was nevertheless received before the scheduled 1-month window, consistent with the experience of several other reviewers. I followed step-by-step directions for installation which I found online (unit comes naked in a plastic clamshell case with no documentation or directions) which was cumbersome, but not difficult if you have the proper tools (including the tri-wing screwdriver- not included). After installation however, the unit did not function as expected. It would load Wii games just fine, but after 5-10 minutes into each game tried it would crash the system and require an eject and reboot. To the seller's credit, I requested a refund, which was approved (still pending as of this writing), and they did not require that I return the defective unit because of the return cost to China. As long as I get the refund in a timely manner, I would rate the seller (epower mall) highly for their responsiveness, even though the unit itself was suboptimal (i.e., 2-star). 2this DVD performs flawlessly and makes the Wii operate like new. Performing the replacement yourself can save you ... I ordered this to replace a defective DVD drive that couldn't read any game discs. After placing the order, I learned it was shipping from China with an estimated delivery date that was 45 days out but I received it a mere 10 days after placing the order. The replacement DVD drive was brand new and sealed inside a plastic blister pack. Replacement was a breeze using online step-by-step instructions and only took 20 minutes. Replacement requires a special tri-wing screwdriver (cheaply available on Amazon), a Phillips screwdriver (the smaller type commonly used for electronics), and tweezers... a flashlight & a magnifying glass are also helpful. Magnetizing the screwdrivers will help prevent dropping the screws and segregating/labeling the various different screws by size as they are removed will help avoid mix-up when re-installing. When removing the Wii faceplate, there is one small 2-wire electrical plug to disconnect while the DVD drive has one ribbon connector and one electrical connector... be careful when disconnecting/reconnecting these as they are delicate. This new DVD drive includes the rubber shock mounts which eliminates the need to swap them over from the old DVD drive. Once installed, this DVD performs flawlessly and makes the Wii operate like new. Performing the replacement yourself can save you $90 or more. 5Used, but works fine! Just received my DVD drive in the mail yesterday after mine started to refuse games a few months back. I was very nervous when I ordered it as reviews seemed hit and miss. Luckily mine works just fine.Took me about 10 minutes to install. Make sure you have a Tri-Tip screwdriver before attempting this! Without one, you will strip out the heads on the screws. If you are uncertain about how to open your Wii safely, there are many YouTube videos out there that work rather well. Just be careful to pull your Wii apart slowly as there are a few cables that are attached to parts that need to come off. The main front shield has one attached to it, and the DVD drive itself has 2 on the bottom that need to be unhooked. Overall, for anyone with electronics repairs experience, this should be fairly easy.Have tested it on many games, both new releases and original releases, as well as my whole catalog of Gamecube games. Everything works fine! Given the wear and tear on the exterior I would assume this looks more like a used drive than a new, but hey, it works. 5Seems to work as expected Our 12 or 13 year old Wii had been reading discs fine for as long as I remember. Recently when I tried to use it again in 2019, the disc drive continuously failed and would not read Wii nor GameCube games. I then started looking online for a proper disc drive replacement and ran into many different sellers. The seller for this one I believe was HongLei, but they do not always seem to have it in stock as the direct seller. As a result, my replacement drive was sent to me from a 3rd-party seller called Game Console Warehouse. The box it arrived in had the information listed from another seller of these replacement disc drives called abcGoodefg. I have no idea how reliable any of these sellers were, but this one happened to be one of the higher rated sellers, if sold directly from HongLei.When opening up my Wii, I compared the drives very closely to see if I could find anything drastically different, but it appears to be the exact part. Most likely was refurbished, but I can't really be expecting a "new" Wii disc drive in 2019. Installing it was as simple as just directly swapping out the drives. Very straight forward so long as you have the needed tools for the swap. I was afraid that the drive would not run GameCube games, based on the mixed reviews people had left for this product, but it reads both Wii and GameCube games in my experience. I really liked the backwards compatibility of the Wii with the GameCube, and I'm glad that I can continue to play the older generation games with this replacement. It is very likely/possible that you could receive a drive that does not read GameCube games or anything at all because third party sellers are not always reliable. Only time will tell if this drive has the longevity as our old drive did. 5Unit was NOT new, the frame was bend, ... Unit was NOT new, the frame was bend, finger prints all over it, and dirt/dust was built up on the right side of the insertion slot.If I could have rated zero, I would have. 1Wii is working again with this drive It works. It came directly from China. It looks like a new product, and looks almost identical to the drive that was in my Wii.Installation was not very difficult but I'd call it an intermediate level project. You do need phillips and tri-wing screwdrivers and a scraper tool to get the rubber feet and screw cover stickers off. I bought the Tekton 2830 everybit screwdriver kit which has all of the necessary tools. Then I used the walk-through on YouTube done by Powerbook Medic.One trick - at a certain point the screws are deep in a hole. To get them out use the bit extender without the screwdriver handle.On reassembly there is a part where you have to get screws back in at the bottom of a hole. Use a dab of glue from a glue stick to get them to stick to the tip of the screwdriver. (or a magnetic screwdriver if you have one). 5Flawless Wii replacement drive! The drive was exactly as described. It appears to be refurbished, but refurbished well and looks almost brand new. This is an original Nintendo Wii DVD drive for a Wii RVL-001 system. The drive I received DOES play GameCube games without any hesitation. All connections were solid and undamaged. Well worth the investment.*** It is easy to install ONLY if you use the "Y" shaped Y3 tri-wing screwdriver to remove some of the security screws. *** 5NOT new. Works,but bye bye Smash Bro.s! This drive is advertised and labeled as new...it isn t. It s an obvious refurb. I brought this to the attention of the seller with no reply or feedback.It s functional, except it doesn t read dual layered discs (no Super Smash Bro.s).To sum up, misrepresentation in advertising plus poor customer service plus a working refurb gets 2 stars. 2
