Customer Reviews

Some of the best knife sharpening oil you can find. And......It doesn't Stink. I love this oil. Norton's is some of the best on the market. If you have not tried it, don't wait. Not only does it perform well, and easily soak into your stone, the best part is......It does not have an offensive or loud odor. I can use this, sharpening my knives in the living room, and my wife doesn't complain about the smell. Most other oils do have a loud odor. Norton's does not. 5My favorite honing oil This is one of the best honing oils I have used. I can't say much because I have only used 2 honing oils and this is the easiest and cheapest one for me to buy, but I have had great success with it. I don't want to spend too much on honing oil because I use a lot when I sit down to sharpen my knifes. Generally speaking one of these cans last me about 6 months and I generally sharpen about 10 knives a month between what I carry daily and what is used in our kitchen. 5Awesome for knives, blades, and cutlery. Great sharpening oil, really gives blades a good edge and preserves the life of them when using a sharpening stone along with it. I use Norton's sharpening oil whenever my cutlery or knives become dull, and it works like a charm. A little oil goes a long way for a 4 1/2 oz bottle, and will last you a life time. I suggest staying away from fabrics or anything that can stain easily when applying the oil to your sharpening stone. It can be difficult to remove as it is an oil based product. Overall, a great product to use if you know what you're doing. 5It's working for me! I am a extreme amateur in knife sharpening, but with all the cheap little pocket knives I have laying around the house, why not try to build a skill? Starting out, I bought a standard whetstone from a local tool store, and used water when I learned I needed something to lubricate and clean the blade as I sharpened it.Well, I was able to restore damaged edges using only water on the whetstone, but the edges I got weren't really sharp, they were just edges. Using this, I was able to immediately sharpen the edges of the knives I'm practicing on. Mind, I still can't get a knife to a razor sharp state, but the fact that this oil helped a novice like myself that much says a lot in my book.Is there better stuff than this and my tool store cheap whetstone? I'm sure there is. But hey, for the price, this is working just fine for me! 4Water doesn't shed the metal from the stone's pores like this stuff does. I like this product very much. I had been using water with my stones. Water doesn't shed the metal from the stone's pores like this stuff does. You still get metal in the pores but when you hit the stone with a tooth or soft wire brush it cleans right up. Obviously that makes sharpening less laborious and faster. Get some, it's good. 5Norton honing oil / Lansky honing oil / the ones to buy Use with DMT brand diamond hones, or Arkansas sharpening stones. For $8.15 bought 4.5oz can of Norton oil, which is a winner (fair value). I also tried the 1oz Lansky oil bottle for $5, but it is not a great value. But, I wanted to try it out. Superb! For $6.35 i subsequently ordered the 4oz Lansky bottle (great value). Avoid the 3.0oz Case xx 910 oil, it was only kerosene. Avoid the Smith s brand (thin & water-based). There you have it, all you need to know about which Honing Oils to buy! 5Price too high I bought this because Amazon recommended it. It soaks into the stone far too quickly and the container is too small for the price. Stick to mineral oil from walmart. Its a better buy 3Really a great product One of the best sharpening stone oil's I've used. Not only does it get the job done, but the 4.5 oz seems to last forever. You really get your money's worth with this product. I will definitely continue to purchase this product from Norton to sharpen my pocket and kitchen knives because it really gets the job done. Odorless, light, effective and perfect for cleaning the sharpening stone. 5Value - Squirt top helps keep usage down! There are many companys that charge more to make their honing oils seem worth it compared to others. Norton stands above the rest by keeping their pricing reasonable, and keeping their product consistently great.Used this oil with the Lansky Puck Stone, and have been wildly happy with my decision. For a 4-1/2 ounce can I have gotten more than 4 months of use out of it and I would bet that this one can lasts me a year or two! 5It's just a light oil. This is nothing like the "Buck Knives" Honing Oil by White Lightning I was hoping to find. The White Lightning Honing Oil contained an abrasive the kept the stone clear and provided a much different sharpening experience. My impression is that there is no benefit to using this vs an oil that you might come by in your local super market. I suppose it's ok to use. More important is what you do to clean your stone. Water, detergent, and a brush might be good enough. 2
